ABSTRACT

Objective]To introduce professor YU Jingmao’s experience in treament of children with adenoid vegetation. [Methods]To select 3 effective cases of adenoid vegetation diseases, clarify professor YU Jingmao’s features of treatment based on syndrome differentiation, stage therapy and drug characteristics, and then analyze and expound the clinical experiences of professor Yu Jingmao. [Result]Professor YU Jingmao in infantile adenoid vegetation body therapy, treats in three stages:the early cure dispelling wind pathogens to clear heat reducing swelling;medium-term plans to raise Yin and moisture lung, promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis;late to invigorate qi for consolidating superficies, nourish yin to clear away heat, often obtains better effect. ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the correlation between adenoid hypertrophy and secretory otitis media. Methods The cases of adenoid hypertrophy were screened and selected by nasopharyngeal lateral X ray.We chose 58 normal children after the clinical examination as control group. In accordance with the degree of adenoid hypertrophy, they were divided into three groups:the normal group,middle-grade and high-grade groups of adenoid hypertrophy with the association between the degree of adenoidal hypertrophy and the incidence rate of secretory otitis media analyzed. Results There was no difference in the incidence rate of secretory otitis media between the normal and middle-grade groups. The incidence rates of secretory otitis media were significantly different between the normal and high-grade groups(P<0.01).Conclusion The incidence of secvetory otitis media and the degree of adenoid hypertrophy showed positive correlation. The greater is the size of adenoids, the severer is the degree of obstruction of the nasopharyngeal cavity and the higher is the incidence of secretory otitis media.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The conventional adenoidectomy is performed via the transoral approach and can be accomplished with adenoid curette, adenotome, and adenoid punch. This method has been associated with many complications. We performed an adenoidectomy using an electric adenotome under the operating microscope. The aim of this study was to compare the electric adenotome adenoidectomy with the conventional adenoidectomy and to evaluate the effectiveness and outcome of the electric adenotome surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred cases of microscopic adenoidectomy using the electric adenotome and one hundred cases of conventional methods using curette or punch forceps were examined. RESULTS: There was less incidence of intraoperative and postoperative bleeding in the electric adenotome adenoidectomy group. There were no differences regarding the postoperative outcome and recurrence rate between the electric adenotome method group and the conventional method group. CONCLUSION: Compared to the conventional method, the electric adenotome method has similar postoperativc result but has a lower incidence of intraoperative and postoperative bleeding. We suggest that adenoidectomy using an electric adenotome is an attractive surgical method in children with symptomatic adenoid vegetation,
