ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of heat-sensitive moxibustion in preventing bedsores after ischemic stroke. Method A hundred ischemic stroke patients were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 50 cases each. The control group was intervened by ordinary nursing care, while the treatment group additionally received heat-sensitive moxibustion. Norton scale and hemodynamics [whole blood viscosity (low-shear, mid-shear and high-shear), hematocrit and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)] of the two groups were observed before and after the treatment, and the occurrences of bedsores in the two groups were compared. Result After the intervention, Norton scale and hemodynamic indexes were significantly changed in both groups (P<0.05). Norton scale and hemodynamic indexes in the treatment group were significantly different from those in the control group after the intervention (P<0.05). The occurrence rate of bedsores was 8.0% in the treatment group versus 24.0% in the control group, and the between-group difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Heat-sensitive moxibustion can effectively reduce the risk and occurrence of bedsores in ischemic stroke patients, and its mechanism is possibly related to the improvement of hemodynamics.

ABSTRACT

Aim: To clarify the predictive risk factors for bedsores of terminal cancer patients receiving home-based care. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted involving 95 terminal cancer patients receiving home-based care, including people using services provided by home-visit care providers until death. Results: The numbers of patients with and without bedsores were 31 and 64, respectively. Bivariate analyses revealed that significant variables were the Ohura-Hotta scale (P=0.02), hyperactive delirium (P=0.005), contracture (P=0.008), and anemia (P=0.02). According to multivariable logistic analysis, significant variables were contracture (OR=16.55, P=0.0002) and hyperactive delirium (OR=4.22, P=0.008) as independent risk factors for bedsores. Discussion: For terminal cancer patients receiving home-based care, hyperactive delirium should also be considered as a predictive risk factor for bedsores.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study antibacterial effect of formulas, borneol, honey, gentamicin in wet honey ice bedsores. Methods The third-stage infective bedsore model in rabbit were estabished with Staphylococcus aureus ( S.aureus) , Escherichia coli ( E.coli) , and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ( P. aeruginosa). The rabbits with bedsore were respectively compressed with gauze of honey+borneol, honey+gentamicin, borneol+gentamicin, borneol+gentamicin+honey, vaseline as control group. The strain identification and colony counts were observed before and after treatment.ResuIts The colony count of S.aureus, E.coli and P.aeruginosa in honey+borneol, honey+gentamicin, borneol+gentamicin, borneol+gentamicin+honey post-treatment was significantly higher than that of pre-treatment, respectively (P<0.05).The colony count of three strains in above four formulas post-treatment was significantly lower than that in vaseline group, respectively (P <0.05).The colony count of three strains in borneol +gentamicin +honey (original formula) post-treatment was significantly lower than that in the other formulas, respectively (P<0.05).ConcIusion The antibacterial effect of borneol+gentamicin+honey (original formula) is the best.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the methods and effects of anterolateral thigh flap reconstruction of the complicated hip decubitus. Methods The study contained 24 cases of grade Ⅳ hip decubitus reconstructed with anterograde pedicled anterolateral thigh flaps through May 2010 to July 2014.There were 13 males and 11 females, aged 26-64 years (mean 54 years).Defects ranged in size from 12 cm×6 cm to 24 cm× 12 cm.Dimensions of flaps harvested were 14 cm ×8 cm to 30 cm× 14 cm.Eighteen cases of the donor sites were directly sutured and six covered with full thickness skin. Results Twenty-two flaps survived completely, and wound was healed by the first intension. Two flaps developed partial distal necrosis, and wound was healed after dressing treatment.Period of follow-up was 6 months to 2 years.Shape, texture and color of the flaps were well matched with the recipient area. Conclusion The anterolateral thigh flap transplantation has advantages of similarity to the recipient area, large enough flap area and sound expected effective and is a good method for repair of hip decubitus.
