ABSTRACT

AIM: To evaluate the binocular visual function in high myopia patients after the implantation of implantable collamer lens(ICL)V4c.METHODS: A total of 35 cases(70 eyes)that received binocular ICL implantation at our hospital from May 2019 to May 2021 were enrolled in this prospective study. Binocular full-range visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, stereopsis, mesopic vision and glare sensitivity, and monocular wavefront and the quality of vision questionnaire were assessed before the surgery and at 1 mo postoperatively.RESULTS: At 1 mo postoperatively, 35 cases(100%)had binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA)≤0.00(LogMAR), 16 cases(46%)had binocular UDVA≥preoperative corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA). Binocular UDVA and uncorrected intermediate visual acuity(UIVA,80 cm)were improved compared to preoperative CDVA and distance-corrected intermediate visual acuity(DCIVA,80 cm)(all P<0.05).While there were no differences in the binocular postoperative UIVA(60 cm)and preoperative DCIVA(60 cm),and uncorrected near visual acuity(UNVA,40 cm)and preoperative distance-corrected near visual acuity(DCNVA,40 cm)(all P>0.05). The binocular contrast sensitivity was significantly improved postoperatively(P=0.001), and the postoperative binocular mesopic vision, glare sensitivity(no glare/glare)and binocular stereopsis(5 m/40 cm)had no differences(all P>0.05). The postoperative total higher-order aberration, trefoil aberration, coma and spherical aberration were increased, besides the median of total coma in the right eye with a pupil diameter of 3.0 mm was decreased after surgery. The mean total score of quality of vision questionnaire was significantly increased from 54.87 preoperatively to 80.92 after implantation(P<0.05), with high satisfaction and no obvious visual disturbance in patients.CONCLUSION: Although the monocular high-order aberrations increased in the early stage after ICL V4c binocular implantation in patients with high myopia, the binocular visual function was improved.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: The goal of this study was to compare the difference in binocular visual function for high and low?moderate myopes before and after femtosecond laser?assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS?LASIK). Methods: Thirty?three subjects (17 males and 16 females) were divided into two groups according to their preoperative refractive errors in spherical equivalent (SE): low?moderate myopia group (SE ??6.00 D) and high myopia group (SE <?6.00 D). The binocular visual function including accommodative amplitude (AA), accommodative facility (AF), positive and negative relative accommodation (PRA and NRA, respectively), horizontal phoria measurement, positive and negative fusion vergence, accommodative–convergence over accommodation (AC/A) ratio, and stereopsis were assessed with the best?corrected vision before patients received FS?LASIK and 7 and 30 days after the surgery. Repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied to study the change in binocular visual function. Results: The AF values in both groups were significantly reduced after 7 days of FS?LASIK (baseline vs. day 7 (mean): high myopia group: 7.85 vs. 5.62 cpm, repeated ANOVA, P = 0.01; low?moderate myopia group: 5.95 vs. 4.40 cpm, repeated ANOVA, P = 0.04). This change returned to the baseline level 30 days after the operation. In addition, the horizontal phoria values in both groups were significantly reduced for both distant (P = 0.019 and P = 0.001, respectively) and near (P = 0.003 and P = 0.049, respectively) 7 days after the operation, but they rebound to preoperative state after 30 days. Conclusion: A transient change in binocular visual function was noticed after 7 days of FS?LASIK operation, which could cause symptoms of asthenopia. Our data showed all the binocular visual functions returned to baseline level after 30 days of operation.

ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To explore the effect of binocular visual function training on the reconstruction of binocular visual function and maintaining the stable eye position in postoperative patients with intermittent exotropia. <p>METHODS: A total of 142 patients with intermittent exotropia underwent strabismus surgery in our hospital from January 2010 to December 2015 were enrolled. These patients were divided into two groups according to whether had binocular visual function training after surgery. The treatment group was used the DV-100 system to train the three-level visual function after surgery. For the control group, no intervention was performed after the operation. Respectively analysis the differences of binocular visual function and eye position in the two groups of patients before and 1mo after surgery, 3mo after surgery, 6mo after surgery, and 1a after surgery. <p>RESULTS: The rate of the positive eye position in the treatment group was higher than the control group in the 6mo and 1a after surgery, and statistically significant difference was found(<i>P</i><0.05). In 1, 3, 6mo and 1a after surgery, there were statistically significant differences in binocular visual function between the two groups. The recovery of binocular visual function in the treatment group was significantly better than that in the control group. <p>CONCLUSION: The binocular visual function may have a certain degree of recovery in the patients with intermittent exotropia after surgery to obtain positive eye position. Through the postoperative visual perception learning and binocular visual function training, the binocular visual function can be better and faster recovered and reconstructed so as to obtain stereoscopic vision. It can better stabilize the eye position and help to reduce the rate of the patient's eye position fallback after surgery.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To analyze the effect of stereopsis and contrast sensitivity on the quality of life and to evaluate the relationship between integrated binocular visual field (IVF) and binocular visual function in bilateral normal tension glaucoma (NTG) patients. METHODS: Stereopsis and contrast sensitivity tests were performed and compared among 44 NTG patients and 32 normal subjects. The IVF was integrated using the best location method. The correlation between visual function and subscales of the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire 25 (NEI VFQ-25) was evaluated using univariate linear regression. RESULTS: Stereopsis and contrast sensitivity for the bilateral NTG patients were decreased compared to the normal controls. Stereopsis and contrast sensitivity exhibited a significant correlation with social functions related to vision and color vision among subscales of NEI VFQ-25. IVF mean deviation (MD) and better eye MD showed a significant correlation with stereopsis and contrast sensitivity, while worse eye MD showed no association. CONCLUSIONS: Deterioration of stereopsis and contrast sensitivity in NTG patients affects their quality of life related to social functions and color vision. Both IVF and better eye MDs are correlated with stereopsis and contrast sensitivity in NTG patients.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To investigate the preoperative binocular visual function of intermittent exotropia and the rebuilding and recovery of the postoperative binocular visual function, and analyze the effect of binocular visual function on orthophoria after surgery. METHODS:From January 2011 to January 2014, 47 basic intermittent exotropia patients caming for treatment were collected in the clinical data. The changes in their near stereopsis, binocular visual function, binocular fusion and distance stereopsis after operations were recorded in the form of data. The preoperative binocular vision and the postoperative rebuilding were analyzed and contrasted with each other. In addition, the effect on the postoperative maintaining of orthophoria due to the existence, recovery and rebuilding of binocular visual function were observed. RESULTS:Intermittent exotropia patients got damage in different levels on their binocular visual functions, especially on distance stereopsis, which was the heaviest and earliest. After the operation, all functions were obviously recovered and reconstructed and the improvements were statistically significant compared against those before the operation (PCONCLUSION: The intermittent exotropia cause damage to the stereopsis which happened the earliest. Obvious recovery and reconstruction of binocular visual function can be observed after the surgery. A relatively good preoperative binocular visual function may lead to the increase in the ratio of orthophoria or cure the intermittent exotropia. Performing an operation when distance stereopsis is damaged can increase the success rate for the surgery and reduce the recurrence rate.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To investigate the postoperative changes of binocular visual function in patients with congenital superior oblique palsy.METHODS: Eye position and binocular visual function were examined in 28 patients with congenital superior oblique palsy pre- and post-operatively. The results were statistically analyzed.RESULTS: The normal eye position rate after operation was 89.3%. There were 9 patients who gained simultaneous perception after operation, while 13 patients gained fusion as many as that gained stereoacuity. There was statistically significant difference between postoperative and preoperative eyes (P<0.05). Near stereoacuity was improved after operation. Patients who had better visual acuity and low strabismus degrees as well as fusion had a better recovery.CONCLUSION: The operation could improve the eye position and rebuild the binocular visual function of the congenital superior oblique palsy. The recovery of binocular visual function was related to visual acuity and strabismus degrees of the patients and whether they had fusion function.

ABSTRACT

To evaluate the results of bilateral recession in large angle exotropia we examined medical records of 73 patients who had exotropia larger than 35PD and underwent bilateral lateral rectus recession. The mean of follow-up period was 16months. Successful alignment, defined as a final alignment of orthophoria, esotropia less than 5PD or exotropia less than 10PD was achieved in 44 patients(60.3%). There were no differences in age, refractive error, preoperative angle of deviation, prevalence of amblyopia, the presence and concurrent correction of vertical or cyclodeviation, the development of diplopia and the duration of follow-up period between the successful alignment group and failure group. The esodeviation on postoperative one-day tended to ensure a more satisfactory result, but it was not statistically significant. There were no statistically significant differences in stereoacuity and postoperative angle of deviation among the different fusional ability groups. The stereoacuity and postoperative angle of deviation did not show a positive correlation. However, on the two separate examinations of the stereoacuity and fusional ability, the latter results showed improvement in both parameters. This result suggests that the correction of exodeviation may play a role in improving binocular visual function in patients with large angle exotropia.
