ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To explore ways to recruit blood donors effectively, so as to ensure blood supply for hospitals in Shenzhen with good compliance with the requirements concerning COVID-19 prevention and control. 【Methods】 From January 31 to March 31, 2020, a recruiting vanguard lead by Party members aimed at "COVID-19 control, blood supply security" was established. Otherwise, the traditional recruiting (via telephone/SMS) and on-site(on the streets) recruiting were also enhanced. The effects of the above three recruitment methods during this period, relative to the same period in 2019, were counted and analyzed. 【Results】 A total of 19 752 blood donors were recruited, and more were recruited by on-site (15 643, 79.19%) than by telephone and SMS(4 109, 20.81%), as on-site recruitment was more persuasive than the traditional one. The success rates of telephone recruitment and SMS recruitment were 11.66% (2 034 / 17 448) and 3.92% (2 075/52 915), respectively, and both were significantly higher than that in the same period in 2019(7.55% and 2.36%) (P0.05). 【Conclusion】 In times of emergency, efficient recruiting method could be achieved by grouping a vanguard, conducting scientific measures, and carrying out effect evaluation. Besides, preference could be given to donors with local registered residence, middle-age (30~50 years old) and better educated background.

ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To discuss the influence of direct reimbursement of blood expenses in hospitals on the recruitment of blood donors in Xianyang City. 【Methods】 Blood donors or reimbursers, who reimbursed blood expenses either at hospitals or at our blood center were investigated, and these two kinds of blood expense reimbursements were compared in terms of convenience, the impact on the enthusiasm of blood donation, as well as the impact of the awareness of hospital reimbursement on the recruitment of blood donors. 【Results】 The direct reimbursement of blood expenses at hospitals took 22 minutes per person, without any round trips nor transportation costs. The rate of satisfaction, long-term intention to blood donation, and voluntary mobilization of others were 98.11%, 91.89%, and 82.56%, respectively, higher than those in the reimbursers at blood station(P<0.01). 35.16%, 38.90%, 98.56%, 94.24% and 93.37% of the blood donors, who were aware of benefits of hospital reimbursement, had donated for 2~3 times, donated more than 3 times, satisfied with the way of reimbursement, intended to redonate and mobilize others, which were higher than those who were unaware of the the hospital reimbursement(P<0.05). 【Conclusion】 Direct reimbursement of blood expenses at hospitals not only improved the convenience, but also increased the enthusiasm of blood donors by improving their satisfaction, which was conductive to blood donation recruitment.

ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To analyze the changes in demographic profile of voluntary blood donors from 2012 to 2019 in Shandong, so as to provide scientific basis for establishing effective recruitment strategy and promoting sustainable development of voluntary blood donation. 【Methods】 The demographic information of voluntary blood donors was obtained via the Shandong Blood Management Information System. The gender, age, occupation and education level of blood donors were descriptively analyzed. High socioeconomic status (SES) and low SES districts were defined according to GDP per capita, and the demographic characteristics of blood donors in the two districts were compared. 【Results】 The proportion of blood donors with a bachelor degree or above increased from 14.28% in 2012 to 20.81% in 2019, showing a significant increase in education level (P<0.01). The proportion of college students and medical staff increased from 14.82% and 2.36% in 2012 to 19.19% and 3.73% in 2019, respectively (P<0.01); the proportion of blood donors aged 26~35 years decreased by 8.82%, and those aged 46~60 years increased by 10.86% (P<0.01). The proportion of blood donors aged 18~25 years increased from 30.72% to 38.12% in high SES district, and decreased from 22.77% to 13.04% in low SES district. 【Conclusion】 The demographic profile of voluntary blood donors in Shandong showed significant changes during the past 8 years ( from 2012 to 2019), which may also exist in other areas in China. It is necessary to improve the recruitment strategies according to those changes, thus promot the sustainable and healthy development of voluntary blood donation.

ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To study the status and conduct effect evaluation of blood donation recruitment of blood services in Chongqing, and explore its influencing factors, so as to provide reference for the regional homogenization of blood services in Chongqing. 【Methods】 19 blood services in Chongqing were investigated by questionnaire in terms of the input in human resources and funds, recruitment methods, document construction and effect evaluation. The statistical analysis was conducted. 【Results】 The average number of blood donors per 1 000 population in 19 blood services in Chongqing was 9.35±3.35. Among the 19 blood services, blood inventory warning occurred in 18, 6 of them reached Level 2 and 1 of them was Level 1. The number of blood donations per 1 000 population in blood banks with no more than 5 recruits or with less than 100 000 yuan/year recruitment fund was significantly lower than that in blood banks with more than 5 recruits or with more than 100 000 yuan/year recruitment fund(P<0.05). SMS and telephone recruitment were most commonly used in blood donation recruitment. Most blood banks have established corresponding system documents, but only one has established the method to evaluate the effect of blood donation recruitment. 【Conclusion】 The number of blood donations per 1 000 population in 19 blood services in Chongqing varies greatly, and the pressure of blood inventory warning is widespread. The input of human resources and financial fund have a certain impact on the number of blood donations per 1000 population, but not the alone factor. The recruitment method is a little bit more on the traditional side, and the blood donation recruitment and efficacy evaluation is in lack of documentary supporting. Regional homogenization should be achieved by integrating the resources of blood services, establishing the document framework of blood donation recruitment and effect evaluation, clarifying the evaluation content and unifying the evaluation standard.
