ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To explore the recruitment strategy of blood donors under the situation of blood supply shortage during the COVID-19 epidemic. 【Methods】 The theory of planned behavior and the stage change model of behavior were used to analyze the recruitment strategy of blood donors during the COVID-19 epidemic. The recruitment practice strategies of some countries or regions, i. e. the United States, Japan, South Korea, and the European Union, during this period were investigated. Based on the theoretical analysis results and practical status, relevant reference strategies were proposed. 【Results】 The theoretical analysis showed that attitude, subjective norms and ethical norms played an important role in the recruitment of blood donors during the COVID-19 epidemic, but blood donation self-efficacy and promoting blood donation behavior were the two key factors. According to the survey, in terms of enhancing and maintaining attitudes, subjective norms, ethical norms and other elements that were jointly affected by the same strategy, most countries continued previous policies while some updated recruitment ideas. In terms of enhancing and maintaining the key elements of blood donation self-efficacy, more human and material support had been made. 【Conclusion】 During the COVID-19 pandemic, enhancing and maintaining blood donation self-efficacy and promoting blood donation behavior are the key elements to effectively improve the blood supply shortage. The blood donor recruitment strategy constructed accordingly has reference value for China.

ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To investigate the effect of blood donation related self-efficacy on blood donation intention, in order to provide valuable reference for formulating the recruitment and service strategy for blood donors with different demographic characteristics. 【Methods】 A questionnaire was designed based on psychological self-efficacy theory, and respondents in Nanchong city were taken as the research objects. The data of demographic characteristics, blood donation related self-efficacy measurement and blood donation intention measurement of the respondents who were randomly selected by convenient sampling method were collected and analyzed by rank sum test. 【Results】 The number of previous blood donation was significantly correlated with blood donation related self-efficacy and blood donation intention, and there was a strong positive correlation between blood donation related self-efficacy and blood donation intention (r=0.618). There are significant differences in blood donation related self-efficacy or blood donation intention of respondents with different blood donation experiences (P0.05). 【Conclusion】 Blood donation intention can be increased by enhancing the blood donation related self-efficacy of respondents. We can focus on the recruitment of respondents with high self-efficacy in the areas covered by the survey during the practice of blood donor recruitment and service to achieve higher recruitment efficiency. In the meantime, special attention should also be paid to the people with relatively low self-efficacy and high-quality services should be provided t to expand blood donor team. Furthermore, blood donor recruitment and services can be appropriately expanded to the countryside as needed.

ABSTRACT

Blood donors, as the core of blood collection and supply system, can greatly ensure blood safety and meet clinical demands with effective management. Good donor practice (GDP) is based on the cooperation of multiple departments by multiple methods. In accordance with the principles of science and ethnic, according to the number and frequency of blood donation and blood donation behavior, GDP classified blood donors accurately, and built up a procedure including potential blood donor identification, selection, recruitment, retention and caring to maintain an accurate management system for keeping regular blood donors. The evaluation indicators for the operation of GDP system were set to conduct real-time monitoring and evaluation, so as to achieve efficient and accurate management and ensure the long-term and stable supply of blood resources.

ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To explore the promote and deter factors of blood donation among street blood donors in Nanjing, in order to improve the accuracy of street blood donors recruitment. 【Methods】 A questionnaire with high confidence was designed based on the theory of planned behavior(TPB). The multi-stage hierarchical sampling method was adopted according to the geographical location and economic development level of 11 districts(regions) in Nanjing, and the street blood donors were divided into three groups according to the history of blood donation: one donation(n=361), donation numbers ≥ 2(n=417)and non-donation (n=241). The blood donation behavior was investigated from four aspects as external promote factors (such as seeking a free blood examination, self-interest factors, etc.), internal promote factors(such as altruistic, self-interest factors, blood donation can help others, etc.), external deter factors (too busy to donate blood, opposition from my family, etc.) and internal deter actors ( worry about dizziness after blood donation, fear of needles, ect.). The database was established using Epidata software, and chi-square test was applied for statistical analysis between groups. 【Results】 The groups mainly affected by the promote factors (altruistic and self-interest factors) of Nanjing street population in blood donation were unmarried, 18~24 years old, childless, below bachelor degree, and have barely no income. The main groups less affected by the deter factors were students, male, unmarried, 18~24 years old, childless and have barely no income.Promote factors increases with the number of blood donations, while deter factors decreases with the number of blood donation. 【Conclusion】 TBP can better analyze and explain the promote and deter factors affecting blood donation behavior among street blood donors in Nanjing, which is helpful for blood stations to formulate targeted measures to improve the availability of street blood donors.

ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To explore the effect of questionnaires on the re-recruitment of lapsed blood donors, and to ensure the retention of regular blood donors for blood supply in blood stations. 【Methods】 Blood Donation Motivation Questionnaire and Blood Donation Deterrents Questionnaire were designed for inactive and lapsing blood donors to inquire the motivation of the latest blood donation, such as "blood donation can save lives" and the reasons for no longer participating in blood donation, such as "there are no blood donation sites nearby", respectively. 13 093 blood donors with donation frequency ≥3 times and last donation during January 1 to May 17, 2018 in Guangzhou were selected as subjects. Text messages containing the links to the correspondent electronic questionnaires were sent to intervention group 1 (n=4 364) to fulfill the Blood Donation Motivation Questionnaire and intervention group 2 (n=4364) to fulfill Blood Donation Deterrents Questionnaire from May 18 to 25, 2020. None questionnaire was issued to the control group (n=4 365). The re-donation rates in the three groups within 2 months after the questionnaire delivery were analyzed by intention to treat (ITT) analysis and average treatment effect (ATT) estimation. 【Results】 The response rate of valid questionnaires was 5.422% (710/13 093), of which 7.424% (324/4 364) were in intervention group 1 and 8.845% (386/4 364) in intervention group 2. The collected questionnaire showed that the score of "blood donation can save lives" was the highest (2.31±0.79)in intervention group 1, and the score of "no blood donation site nearby" was the highest (2.31±0.80). in intervention group 2.2 months of observation showed that the re-donation rate was similar among all three groups by ITT analysis (Ps>0.05). ATT estimation results showed that the re-donation rates of intervention group 1 and intervention group 2 were 5.56%(18/324) and 3.11%(12/386), respectively(P<0.05). 【Conclusion】 Motivation questionnaire is a simple and convenient way to remind blood donors who have multiple donations to donate blood again.

ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To develop and implement a precise and efficient telephone recruitment strategy for apheresis platelet donors based on the information management of blood collection and supply process. 【Methods】 A telephone recruitment strategy based on the whole process information management of apheresis platelet donors (hereinafter referred to as telephone recruitment) was formulated From January 1, 2019, apheresis platelet donors in Hangzhou, registered in the intelligent blood donor recruitment system(hereinafter referred to as the recruitment system), were recruited by telephone calls or (and) SMS reminders to inform re-donation interval, key points of recruitment consultation, blood donation appointment time and other precautions. Response rate, pass rate and blood donation rate of donors before(in 2018) and after( in 2019) the implementation of telephone recruitment, as well as the above three rates during the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020 in Hangzhou were collected and analyzed by χ2 test. 【Results】 The response rate, pass rate, and blood donation rate of apheresis platelet donors in Hangzhou before /after the implementation of telephone recruitment and during the COVID-19 epidemic were 28.52%(3 901/13 678)vs 30.52%(4 429/14 511)vs 39.36%(4 064/10 326), 73.80%(2 879/3 901)vs 77.83%(3 447/4 429)vs 78.20%(3 178/4 064)and 6.77%(2 879/42 553)vs 7.77%(3 447/44 366)vs 8.13%(3 178/39 077, respectively(P<0.05). In 2020, 85.94%(3 178/3 698) of apheresis donors were recruited by telephone(P<0.05). The proportion of apheresis donations successfully recruited by telephone in 2018 and 2019 accounted for 11.74% (2 879/24 519) and 12.48% (3 447/27 628), respectively(P<0.05), contributing 10.59% (4 030 U/38 040 U) and 11.38% (4 875 U/42 853 U) of units(P<0.05) that issued to the clinical. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the number of blood donors recruited by telephone and its proportion in 2020 decreased significantly as compared with those before the implementation of telephone recruitment (2019). 【Conclusion】 The telephone recruitment strategy based on the whole-process information management (system) of blood collection and supply can effectively improve the targeted recruitment of apheresis platelet donors and enhance its proportion of apheresis collection that issued to the clinical.
