ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the efficacy and safety of blood-letting therapy (BLT) in treatment of hypertension.@*METHODS@#A comprehensive electronic and manual bibliographic searches were performed in Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Excerpt Medica Database (EMBASE), PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and Wanfang Database to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in which hypertensive patients were treated with BLT or BLT plus antihypertensive drugs (BPAD) against placebo, no treatment or antihypertensive drugs. The Cochrane Risk Assessment Tool was used to assess the methodological quality of trials. The Review Manager 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis.@*RESULTS@#A total of 7 RCTs with 637 hypertensive patients from 1989 to 2017 were identified. Compared with antihypertensive drugs, blood pressure was significantly reduced by BLT (RR=1.21, 95% CI: 1.01 to 1.44, P=0.03; heterogeneity: P=0.06, I=60%) and BPAD (RR=1.25, 95% CI, 1.02 to 1.53, P=0.03; heterogeneity: P= 0.01, I=71%). Moreover, a significant improvement in Chinese medicine syndrome by BLT (RR=1.32; 95% CI: 1.14 to 1.53, P=0.0002; heterogeneity: P=0.53, I=0%) and BPAD (RR=1.47; 95% CI: 1.06 to 2.04, P=0.02; heterogeneity: P=0.13, I=56%) was identified. The reported adverse effects were well tolerated.@*CONCLUSION@#Although some positive findings were identified, no definite conclusions regarding the efficacy and safety of BLT as complementary and alternative approach for treatment of hypertension could be drew due to the generally poor methodological design, significant heterogeneity, and insufficient clinical data. Further rigorously designed trials are warranted to confirm the results.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture at the three nasal acupoints plus bloodletting at Suliao (GV 25) in treating rosacea.Method Sixty rosacea patients were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 30 cases each. The treatment group was intervened by acupuncture at the three nasal acupoints plus bloodletting at Suliao (GV 25), while the control group was intervened by ordinary medication. The skin lesion scores of the two groups were observed before and after 4-week treatment, and the clinical efficacies were also compared. Result The skin lesion scores were significantly changed after respectively 2, 3 and 4 weeks of treatment in both groups (P<0.05). The skin lesion scores in the treatment group were significantly different from those in the control group respectively after 2, 3 and 4 weeks of treatment (P<0.05). The total effective rate was 93.3% in the treatment group versus 73.3% in the control group, and the between-group difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Acupuncture at the three nasal acupoints plus bloodletting at Suliao (GV 25) is an effective approach in treating rosacea.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To observe the different effects of acupuncture combined with blood-letting theraphy and conventional western medicine for postherpetic neuralgia.[Methods] Choose 80 cases patients with neuralgia after herpes zoster from our hospital 's clinic and wards and then divide them randomly into two groups—the acupuncture bleeding group and the medicine group. The patients in the acupuncture bleeding group were treated mainly by local multiple-superficial needling. They were acupunctured with Ashi points in herpes zoster local as the centre using disaposable acupuncture needles five times a week. The needle point aimed at the lesion and the inserted body skin shallowly along superficial fascia. Meanwhile, pricking pain part with skin needles combined with blood letting and cupping were performed on the patients twice a week. In the medicine group, the patients took Tetrandrine three times a day with 40mg at a time. After four weeks, observe and evaluate the curative effects.[Result] In the acupuncture bleeding group, 8 patients were cured, 22 markedly improved,10 effective, 0 ineffective and the apparent recovey rate was 75%. In the medical group, 2 patients were cured, 10 markedly improved,20 effective, 8 ineffective and the apparent effective rate was 30%. There was a signifcant difference in curative effects between two groups with statistical significance( P<0.05). [Conclusion] Acupuncture bleeding method is an effective treatment for postherpetic neuralgia, which is superior to conventional western medicine treatment.
