ABSTRACT

Purpose: To observe the effects of caffeine intake on vessel densities in macular and peripapillary regions and to analyze the correlations of vascular properties of these two interlinked regions in healthy volunteers using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Methods: In this prospective randomized, double?masked, placebo?controlled study, 120 participants were grouped into two groups: sixty subjects as a study group, which received caffeine and sixty subjects as a placebo group, which received a placebo. OCTA imaging was performed at baseline and 1 h after drug intake. Changes in macular and radial peripapillary capillary (RPC) vessel densities (VD) and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) parameters and correlation of these parameters were analyzed. Results: Baseline macular and RPC VD and FAZ parameters showed no significant difference between study and placebo groups (P > 0.05 for all). VD parameters in all segments of superficial and deep macular regions and peripapillary region showed a statistically significant decrease after caffeine intake (P < 0.001 for all). All macular superficial VD parameters showed a positive correlation with deep perifovea VD (P < 0.05 for all). Also, superficial perifovea VD was positively correlated with all deep macular VD parameters except deep fovea VD (P < 0.05 for all). Conclusion: We show that caffeine causes a decrease in macular and peripapillary vessel densities in healthy subjects, and correlations were observed between macular and peripapillary VD parameters. We believe that future studies are needed to support the effect of caffeine on peripapillary VD and the idea of using deep perifovea VD as the main parameter to estimate superficial macular parameters.

ABSTRACT

Licorice is a common herb which has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. More than 20 triterpenoids and nearly 300 flavonoids have been isolated from licorice. Recent studies have shown that these metabolites possess many pharmacological activities, such as antiviral, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and other activities. This paper provides a summary of the antiviral and antimicrobial activities of licorice. The active components and the possible mechanisms for these activities are summarized in detail. This review will be helpful for the further studies of licorice for its potential therapeutic effects as an antiviral or an antimicrobial agent.

ABSTRACT

[Objective]To find a simple and direct feasible method to detect bone tissue vascularize from comparing advantage or disadvantage of ink intravascular Dabble-VG dyeing and other tissue dyeing in the tissue section capillary vessel display.[Methods]One side femoral artery of 6 normal goat was mixed with liquor composed of 10 percentink,10 percent formaldehyde and 20 percent mannitol, volume ratio in 7∶2∶1.Stopped femoral vein effluent was black. To get off goat tibia,10 percent formaldehyde was fixed with.EDTA decalcification, cedar oil douse, fiat 50 to 100 micrometer pachy-section and compound ink-VG dyeing to observe capillary vessel.[Results]Compound ink-VG dyeing ould display relations of capillary vessel and surrounding tissue. But in control group, single HE,Masson and Weigert Resorcinol-aniline red dyeing after-stain VG dyeing ould display few capillary vessel and surrounding tissue, and recognize difficultly.[Conclusion]Compound ink-VG dyeing can display capillary vessel of bone clearly, and can disclose relationships of surrounding tissue as well. This method can try on in tissue vascularization detect.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the protective effect of Duzhong Hongjingtian Capsule (DHC) on cerebral ischemia in rats. Methods Thrombotic ischemia and middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) induced by FeCl3 in rats was used to observe the protective effect of DHC on ischemia stroke, and common carotid artery occlusion (CCAO) rats was used to analyze the effect of DHC on blood brain barrier (BBB) permeability. Results DHC could improve the abnormal behavior of MCAO rats and decrease the infarction area and water content in the brain of MCAO rats. DHC could also improve the cerebral blood flow on MCAO rats and significantly reduce the permeability for evans' blue (EB) of CCAO rats. Conclusions DHC can protect the brain ischemic injury.
