ABSTRACT

To evaluate root canal transportation and centering ability as influenced by operator experience using WaveOne Gold files in simulated acrylic resin root canals. Thirty-two simulated acrylic resin canals were distributed to two groups (n = 16). Group 1 is made up of inexperienced students, and group 2 by specialists in the field of endodontics. These canals were shaped to an apical size of 07/25 with the Primary WaveOne Gold file. Photographic images were used to evaluate apical transport and centering of the instrumentation, which was analyzed using Photoshop and Image J image editing software. File separation was also recorded. The data were recorded using Google Forms and analyzed using the R statistical program. The normality of the data was evaluated using the Shapiro-Wilk test, and the t-test was performed to establish differences between the groups. The level of statistical significance was established as p <0.05. The normality of the data was evaluated using the Shapiro-Wilk test. Then statistical significance was analyzed using the T-test. The most remarkable difference when evaluating centering was evident at the 6 mm level. In terms of apical transport, the major discrepancy was at the 1 mm level. However, no significant differences were observed between both groups in any of the points evaluated. A low incidence of instrument fracture was reported. According to our results, the operator's experience does not influence shaping in simulated root canals in terms of centering ability and apical transportation when using WaveOne Gold files.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the shaping ability of reciprocating and continuous rotary systems after root canal retreatment. After preparation and root canal filling, mesial canals of 54 mandibular molars were distributed into 3 groups (n=18), according to the filling material removal and re-instrumentation protocols: WOG group - WaveOne Gold system; PTN group - ProTaper Next system; and PTU group - ProTaper Universal system. Cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) images acquisition of the mesial root canals was performed at different moments: (1) before instrumentation (unprepared root canals), (2) after preparation and filling, (3) after filling material removal and (4) re-instrumentation. The apical transportation (AT), centering ability (CA) and change in root canal diameter were assessed by CBCT analysis. The remaining filling material quantification was performed by radiographic examination. The statistical analyses were performed using the 3-way ANOVA, Tukey-Kramer, Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn multiple Comparison tests (p<0.05). The tested instruments did not show full CA (=1.0). PTN group had greater AT at the 5th mm in comparison with the WOG group (p<0.05). After re-instrumentation, WOG group had greater root canal diameter change at the 1st and 5th mm than PTN and PTU groups (p<0.05). There was no significant difference among groups when comparing the amount of remaining filling material after re-instrumentation (p>0.05). The tested systems provided minimal alteration in root canal morphology at the apical portion after root canal retreatment. However, WOG promoted greater change in root canal diameter.

No entanto, WOG promoveu maior alteração no diâmetro do canal radicular.

ABSTRACT

The success of root canal therapy requires effective cleaning and shaping of canals. The present study was conducted to compare canal transportation and centric ability of CM and WO file system. Methods: The present study was conducted on 40 recently extracted mandibular premolars of both genders. The teeth were randomly divided into 2 groups. In group I, teeth were prepared using HyFlex CM files up to 25/0.4 and in group II, teeth were prepared using WO files up to 25/0.8.The amount of canal transportation was evaluated by measuring the shortest distance from the edge of uninstrumented canal to the periphery of the root (mesial and distal) and then comparing this with the same measurements obtained from the instrumented images. The mean centering ratio indicates the ability of the instrument to stay centered in the canal. Results: Canal transportation was small in group I as compared to group II at 3mm, 9mm and 12 mm. The difference was significant (P< 0.05). The mean centric ratio in group I was 0.394 at 3 mm, 0.311 at 9 mm and 0.459 at 12 mm. In group II, it was 0.514 at 3 mm, 0.501 at 9 mm and 0.782 at 12 mm. The difference was significant (P< 0.05). Conclusion: Canal preparation with HyFlex CM file system showed lesser transportation and better centering ability than WO file system.

ABSTRACT

Background: Cleaning and shaping the root canal is an important phase in endodontic therapy. A prepared root canal should have a shape that flares from apical to coronal regions, maintaining the apical foramen and not changing the original canal curvature. Aim: To compare canal transportation, canal centring ability and remaining dentin thickness, in curved root canals using Twisted Files, PathFiles-ProTaper System, RaCe files, WaveOne reciprocating files and hand NiTi K-files with Cone Beam Computed Tomography. Materials and methods: 125 canals with completely formed apices and angle of curvatures ranging from 10 degrees to 60 degrees were used. The teeth were divided in five experimental groups of 25 each. Instrumentation was performed in Group I with Twisted files, Group II with PathFile-ProTaper, Group III with Hand NiTi files, Group IV with RaCe files and Group V with WaveOne reciprocating files. CBCT images were obtained before and after instrumentation with Kodak CS9300 equipment Neerja Sharma, Shafia Sarfi, Avdesh Sharma, Mandeep S Grewal. Evaluation of canal preparation with rotary and hand Niti files in curved root canals using Cone Beam Computed Tomography: An In Vitro Study. IAIM, 2017; 4(7): 45-55. Page 46 (CS3D Imaging Software 3.1.9). The amount of canal transportation, centering ability and remaining dentin thickness was calculated at nine levels. Results were analysed using ANOVA test and Post-hoc Bonferroni Multiple Comparison test. Results: Statistically significant difference was noted among the groups at the middle and apical third level with WaveOne files showing the least and hand NiTi files showing the highest transportation. The mean centering ratio was statistically highest with WaveOne and smallest with hand NiTi files at the middle third level. At the apical level (p < 0.05) the mean remaining dentin thickness was highest with WaveOne and smallest with PathFile-ProTaper. Conclusion: WaveOne and Twisted files were similar in terms of canal transportation, centring ability and remaining dentin thickness. Hand NiTi files and Pathfile-ProTaper systems produced maximum amount of canal aberrations.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the centering ability of three rotary nickel-titanium instruments Reciproc,Protaper and WaveOne in resin-simulated curved root canals. Methods A total of 30 resin-simulated curved canals(curvature=30°)were di-vided into 3 groups(n=10 each)using the random number table. They were prepared with Reciproc(group R),Protaper(group P)and WaveOne(group W)respectively.Pre-and post-operative images were obtained by a digital camera at the fixed position, and superimposed through Photoshop. The center displacement between pre- and post-operative images were measured at 10 points beginning at 1 mm from the end point of the canal with the software Digimizer at a ratio of 1 to 1.The data were analyzed through one-way ANOVA and Student-Newman-Kuels at a significance level ofα=0.05.Results The central point was shifted laterally to the curve at 1,2,and 3 mm from the end point of the canal, while it shifted medially to the curve at 6,7,and 8 mm.The centering ability was better in groups R and W than in group P with significant differences noted(P <0.05).No sig-nificant difference was found in the centering ability between group R and group W.Also there were no significant differences in the centering ability at 4,5,9 and 10 mm among the three groups(P >0.05).Conclusion Reciproc and WaveOne have similar centering ability. They preform better in terms of centering location than Protaper, especially at the apex and the most curved part of the canal.
