ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#The previous study has indicated that lung cancer has a high incidence and mortality in China, and has caused a large economic burden. The purpose of this study was to analyze the incidence and economic burden of lung cancer by analyzing the information on the home page of discharge history of lung cancer patients in Hebei Tumor Hospital, and to provide scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of lung cancer.@*METHODS@#The information of all of the discharges, new cases, surgical patients, age, gender, length of stay and hospitalization cost of lung cancer patients in Hebei Tumor Hospital from January 2012 to December 2019 were retrieved based on the medical record management system, and the incidence trend, gender and age distribution as well as the economic burden of the disease were statistically described.@*RESULTS@#The number of new cases of lung cancer increased year by year, from 2,235 cases in 2012 to 5,012 cases in 2019. The number of males always outnumbered females, but the gender ratio decreased year by year, from 2.25 in 2012 to 1.56 in 2019. Among new cases of lung cancer, the proportion of surgical treatment increased year by year, from 28.14% in 2012 to 44.83% in 2019. Except for 2012, the proportion of surgical operations in female patients was higher than that in male patients from 2013 to 2019. The proportion of surgical operations in male and female patients was 23.52% and 28.07% in 2013, and 36.14% and 58.37% in 2019, respectively. The median age at the onset of lung cancer has increased year by year, from 61 years old in 2012 to 63 years old in 2019. The median age of onset in all lung cancer patients was higher in males than in females. The number of new lung cancer patients and surgical patients both showed an increasing trend with the increase of age, and both reached the maximum value in the age group of 60-69 years old. With the increase of age, the number of patients gradually decreased. The median length of hospital stay for all discharged lung cancer patients or surgical patients decreased year by year, from 10 d and 19 d in 2012 to 8 d and 17 d in 2019, respectively, while the median hospitalization cost increased year by year. It increased from 10,611.46 yuan and 38,750.13 yuan in 2012 to 17,187.15 yuan and 84,030.16 yuan in 2019, respectively.@*CONCLUSIONS@#Lung cancer is still one of the main cancers endangering the health of Chinese residents. The incidence of lung cancer is increasing year by year, and the distribution of gender and age has certain characteristics. In order to reduce the number of cases and the economic burden, effective prevention and control measures should be formulated and medical reform should be strengthened.

ABSTRACT

Road traffic injuries are a major but neglected global public health problem, requiring concerted efforts for effective and sustainable prevention. Of all the systems that people have to deal with on a daily basis, road transport is the most complex and the most dangerous. Objectives: To study the patterns of injuries in the road traffic accidents and days of hospitalization. Materials and Methodology: The study was retrospective record based study and included cases reported and recorded from October 2007 to March 2008. Results: The present study was designed to study the patterns of injuries in RTA (Road Traffic Accidents) in Anand district of Gujarat. The results showed that out of total 423 RTA cases, 327(77.3%) of the victims were males and the rest 96(22.7%) were females. Two wheeler riders and pedestrians form twothird of the total victims. Total 232 fractures were noticed and of these maximum numbers occurred in the lower limb region (53.86%) followed by fractures in the upper limb (24.54%) and 10.77% fractures were in the skull. Abrasions were seen most commonly on lower limbs (34.31%), lacerations were seen mostly on head (41.07%) and internal injuries were noticed more in the head region (31.48%). 74.2% of the victims were hospitalized and the rest 25.8% took treatment at the trauma centre. 51.1% of RTA victims were hospitalized for 1-5 days while patients who did not require hospitalization were 109(25.8%).

ABSTRACT

AIM: To analyze clinical data of hospitalized patients with age - related cataract treated through clinical pathway in our hospital, and to investigate the effectiveness of clinical pathway in standardizing medical behavior, advancing work efficiency, and improving quality of hospital management. METHODS:Data of patients with age-related cataract, who were treated with phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation in Xi'an North Hospital, were retrospectively analyzed. In clinical pathway group, 220 patients underwent cataract surgery from October 2012 to May 2013 in accordance with clinical pathway. For control group, 213 patients with cataract receiving surgery from October 2010 to June 2011, comply with conventional process. Effect of cataract surgery, average length of hospitalization, average cost of hospitalization, and degree of satisfaction of patients were comprehensive investigated. RESULTS: In 220 patients of clinical pathway group, 209 ( 95. 0%) got improved vision, the days of hospitalization was 4. 5 ± 1. 4d, and the average hospitalized consumption was 4 522. 3 ± 285. 1 Yuan. Whereas, in control group, visual acuity in 202 (94. 8%) out of 213 patients were improved, and the length and cost of hospitalization were 5. 1±1. 7d and 4 647. 7±271. 2 Yuan. The difference of the length and cost of hospitalization between these two groups were significant (P0. 05). CONCLUSION: Practicing of age - related clinical pathway is helpful in standardizing medical heavier, optimizing clinical process, reducing health cost, improving quality of medical care, and providing evidence for hospital management innovation.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES: Depression is one of the most common neuropsychiatric sequelae of stroke, and depression is a serious disorder that can compromise the quality of life and overall rehabilitating process. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of depression in acute stroke patient and to compare with nondepressive patients in terms of demographic data, lesion site, pathology and the days of hospitalization. METHOD: Total 200 stroke patients admitted in Korea university hospital from Jan. 1993 to Dec. 1994 were included in this study. Data was collected from the medical records retrospectively and analyzed by means of statistics. RESULT: The frequency of depressive episode was 17% (34/200). The pathologic lesion was more frequently located in the right hemisphere (no statistical significance) and patients with depressive episode showed a higher frequency of lesions in anterior areas of the left hemisphere and posterior areas of the right hemisphere. The hospitalization days of depressive group was longer than that of non-depressive group (student t-test, p<.05). The age of depressive group was younger than that of non-depressive group (student t-test, p<.05). There was a positive correlation between the hospitalization days and the severity of depression(r=0.41). There also was a positive correlation between NIH stroke scale and the severity of depression (r=0.4988). CONCLUSION: In patients with depressive episode after acute stroke, it was more frequently developed in right posterior hemispheric lesion and their hospitalization days was longer in the depressive group than in nondepressive patients.
