ABSTRACT

Network targets theory and technology have transcended the limitations of the "single gene, single target" model, aiming to decipher the mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) based on biological network from the perspective of informatics and system. As the core of TCM network pharmacology, with the development of computer science and high-throughput experimental techniques, the network target theory and technology are beginning to exhibit a trend of organic integration with artificial intelligence technology and high-throughput multi-modal multi-omics experimental techniques. Taking the network target analysis of TCM like Yinqiao Qingre Tablets as a typical case, network target theory and technology have achieved the systematic construction, in-depth analysis, and high-throughput multi-modal multi-omics validation of multi-level biological networks spanning from traditional Chinese and Western phenotypes to tissues, cells, molecules, and traditional Chinese and Western medicines. This development helps to address critical issues in the analysis of mechanisms of TCM, including the discovery of key targets, identification of functional components, discovery of synergistic effects among compound ingredients, and elucidation of the regulatory mechanisms of formulae. It provides powerful theoretical and technological support for advancing clinical precision diagnosis and treatment, precise positioning of TCM, and precise research and development of TCM. Thus, a new paradigm of TCM research gradually emerges, combining big data and artificial intelligence(AI) with the integration of human experience and scientific evidence.

ABSTRACT

Chronic heart failure(CHF), a serious and end stage of various heart diseases, is a common chronic cardiovascular disease in the 21 st century. Literature data show that the 5-year mortality rate of hospitalized patients with heart failure is as high as 50%. Nowadays, the development of drugs treating heart failure has become a hot spot, meanwhile, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has shown the advantages in the treatment of chronic heart failure. In this article, four stages to develop traditional Chinese medicine for chronic heart failure were proposed. Firstly, discuss and screen ideas and methods with regard to the development of TCM and its prescriptions based on clinical needs. Secondly, study the preparation process and quality control method by referring to the existing clinical background of TCM prescriptions and analyzing the chemical compositions and pharmacological action characteristics of each herb in the prescription. Then, design non-clinical evaluation programs and carry out researches on pharmacodynamics and toxicology by combining the experience of clinical use of TCM prescriptions and future clinical positioning, and gradually adjust and improve the programs during implementation. Finally, conduct clinical trial application(IND) by submitting registration application data which are base on the clinical drug experience, preclinical research pharmacy, main pharmacodynamics, safety test results of the prescription, clinical positioning, and reasonable clinical trial plan designed by the theory of TCM. After passing the IND technical review, the clinical trial study shall be officially launched to achieve the desired results and obtain effective Chinese patent medicines for heart failure treatment.

ABSTRACT

As China's social development enters the New Era and the pursuit of healthcare is on the rise, people put forward the new requirements to traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) service capability. It is a great mission entrusted to practitioners to give full play to the unique characteristics and strengths of TCM. The development of TCM is currently confronted with important chances and challenges, and has entered a period of adjustment. In order to promote the healthy and sustainable development of TCM and enlarge people's sense of gaining in particular,it is vital to improve the contribution of TCM in China's medical and health services. My suggestions are as follows: ①The development of TCM should stay true to the vision of people's health-oriented development, accelerate shift of " three work emphasis",and scientifically construct five " should do" and five " should do even more" development path suited to features of TCM. ②The development of TCM should focus on the study of its " new four natures"( safety, effectiveness, controllability, accessibility) further, and pursue innovation-driven high quality development of TCM.

ABSTRACT

In the past five thousand years, the advanced theory and effective practice of traditional Chinese medicine have played a key role in the prosperity and population growth of traditional Chinese people. This article analyzed the opportunities and challenges that traditional Chinese medicine faces in its current state of development and discussed the progressiveness of traditional Chinese medicine theory and practices. The author advocates that "the essential task of developing traditional Chinese medicine is to preserve and expand the progressiveness of traditional Chinese medicine theory and practices".In the 21 century, human health concept and medicine model have been changing. And,the fast pace development in modern technology and our country's growing emphasis in traditional Chinese medicine offer a great opportunity for traditional Chinese medicine to evolve. In such a juncture, the author believes that the key to the further development of traditional Chinese medicine rests in the correct understanding, preservation and expansion of the advanced traditional Chinese medicine theory and practices. To do so,we need to focus on "fundamental development" and "independence innovation" aiming at using traditional Chinese medicine to continuous improving our capability not only in disease prevention and treatment but also in science and technology innovation to allow traditional Chinese medicine to make more contribution in protecting human health.

ABSTRACT

To explore the Chinese materia medica (CMM) for the second time has been attached increasingly importance in recent years. The author discusses the importance of the secondary exploitation to the development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). At the same time, the author analyzes the current situation of TCM, and points out that the advantages and disadvantages of TCM. They are complicated with each other, and this complicated situations have brought about the difficulties of development of TCM. So the author brings forward that the secondary exploitation for CMM is a positive approach to solve the current problems, for it not only adapts to the complexion of exploring the new drug, but also keeps inherent characteristic of TCM, and aims at the disadvantages of the traditional techniques of TCM. In addition, the author recounts the method of secondary exploitation for CMM from choosing the object, deepening the base research to reforming the techniques. In the end, the author tables some proposals for the secondary exploitation for CMM.
