ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To compare image quality and radiation dose of high-pitch dual-source spiral cardiothoracic computed tomography (CT) between non-electrocardiography (ECG)-synchronized and prospectively ECG-triggered data acquisitions in young children with congenital heart disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighty-six children (≤ 3 years) with congenital heart disease who underwent high-pitch dual-source spiral cardiothoracic CT were included in this retrospective study. They were divided into two groups (n = 43 for each; group 1 with non-ECG-synchronization and group 2 with prospective ECG triggering). Patient-related parameters, radiation dose, and image quality were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in patient-related parameters including age, cross-sectional area, body density, and water-equivalent area between the two groups (p > 0.05). Regarding radiation dose parameters, only volume CT dose index values were significantly different between group 1 (1.13 ± 0.09 mGy) and group 2 (1.07 ± 0.12 mGy, p 0.05). CONCLUSION: In high-pitch dual-source spiral pediatric cardiothoracic CT, additional ECG triggering does not substantially reduce motion artifacts in young children with congenital heart disease.

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the clinical application and value of dual-source spiral CT enhanced scan and multiplanar reformatting ( MPR) in the diagnosis of gastric cancer. Methods The 335 patients with gastric cancer who conducted dual-source spiral CT enhanced scan of upper abdomen under the hypotonic state before the definite pathological diagnosis were retrospectively analyzed, and had multi-di-mensional multiplanar reconstruction for the enhanced thin-section CT data by the multiplanar reformatting technique. Results Of 335 ca-ses,288 cases were detected by simple axial data, the detection rate was 86. 0%,320 cases were detected by MPR,the detection rate was 95. 5%,the differences were statistically significant (P<0. 05). The overall accuracy rate of Preoperative T staging by conventional axial and MPR images were 78. 3% and 89. 1% respectively, the difference was statistically significant. The overall accuracy rate of preoperative N staging by two methods were 73. 6% and 82. 3%,respectively,the difference was not significant. Conclusion Application of dual source spiral CT multiplanar reconstruction can significantly improve the detection rate of gastric cancer, and the average accuracy rate of preopera-tive TNM staging for gastric cancer is 84. 6%.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the technology and application of dual-source CT urography. Methods 56 cases with clinical symptoms and dual-source CT urography were analyzed retrospectively through conventional plain scan, arterial phase scan, venous phase scan, which gained data were reconstructed 3D images of MPR, MIP, CPR and VR, and the im- ages were analyzed. Results The 3D images of kidneys, ureters and bladder were reconstructed successfully, which showed clearly the detail of the entire urinary tract and the local fine structure, morphology, taking shape and the relationship with the surrounding tissue through rotating and zooming. Conclusion Through the dual-source CT to scan the entire urinary tract is suitable for a variety of data acquisition of three-dimensional reconstruction, which can greatly enhance the focal positive rate and diagnosis rate.
