ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the humanistic care consciousness and ability of outpatient and emergency nurses in tertiary Grade A hospitals in Zhengzhou City. Methods: In June 2021, a total of 345 outpatient and emergency nurses from 6 tertiary Grade A hospitals in Zhengzhou City were selected as the survey objects by random number table method. The humanistic care ability of outpatient and emergency nurses was investigated. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to analyze the related factors influencing the humanistic care ability of outpatient and emergency nurses. Results: The total score of humanistic care ability of outpatient and emergency nurses in Zhengzhou tertiary Grade A hospital was (194.18±30.53). The scores of humanistic care ability of outpatient and emergency nurses with different gender, age, educational background, professional title, length of service, night shift frequency, marital status, children's status, employment patterns and average monthly household income were significantly different (P<0.05). Regression analysis showed that education background, length of service, professional title and night shift frequency were independent influencing factors for outpatient and emergency nurses' humanistic care ability (β=0.243, 0.139, 0.163, -0.126, P<0.05) . Conclusion: At present, the humanistic care ability of outpatient and emergency nurses in tertiary Grade A hospitals in Zhengzhou City is still low. Education, length of service, professional title and night shift frequency are independent influencing factors affecting the humanistic care ability of nurses.

ABSTRACT

Background: Preventing, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters have become a priority for everyone. Gaza Strip in Palestine is constantly exposed to wars and disasters. One of the most prominent respondents to disasters in the health care system is emergency nurses. This study aimed to identify the role perception of Palestinian emergency nurses in Gaza Strip during disaster and their level of knowledge about disaster management. Methods: The analytical descriptive cross-sectional approach was used. The study sample consisted of all nurses working in emergency departments at the governmental hospitals in Gaza Strip. The eligible nurses were 180; only 162 filled the questionnaire with response rate 90% after signing the consent form. Data were analyzed using mean, t test and ANOVA.Results: The findings indicated that 75.9% of emergency nurses were male. About 53% were 20-29 years old. Most of them hold bachelor degree (73.5%) while only 4.3% had a master degree. The study found that the level of “role perception of nurses during disasters” was 81.5% (e.g., ability to participate in an emergency plan, provide psychosocial support, have high confidence during emergencies, etc.), followed by field of “nurses’ knowledge of disasters” with 78.03% (e.g., past experience, updated information, etc.).Conclusions: Although the Palestinian emergency nurses have an acceptable level of knowledge and role perception during disasters, they still need to raise their level of knowledge, preparedness and skills by integrating clearly defined theoretical and training sessions on disaster management in nursing curricula and through in-service activities for employees.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effect and persistence of disaster nurse training in emergency nurses and to provide reference for further disaster nurse training. Methods Sixty-four emergency nurses in the emergency department of Shanxi Provincial People's Hospital were selected as the research objects. Four emergency nursing specialists conducted training to investigate the core competence of disaster nursing six months after the training and after the end of the training. Results Before training and after the end of training. The core ability of disaster nursing training 6 months after the emergency nurses'scores were 133.33±8.95, 145.80 ±2.98, 136.33±10.90, the difference was statistically significant (F=9.076, P<0.05); disaster nursing core ability score, dimension disaster basic knowledge, nursing care, nursing care of vulnerable groups of disaster management and disaster nursing professional development in the 3 periods of the scores were statistically significant (F=3.579-12.421, P<0.05 or 0.01); gender, whether the emergency specialist nurses in the training before and afterthe end of the training, six months after training the three periods of the score was statistically significant (t=4.488-15.640, P<0.05 or 0.01). The scores of nurses with different working years before training and 6 months after training were statistically significant (F=7.565, 4.278, P<0.01 or 0.05). Conclusions Disaster-related knowledge and skills training can increase the emergency care nurse's disaster management core competencies, but require long-term repetitions to ensure the effectiveness of training.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the relations of psychological stress reactions to workplace violence and so-cial acknowledgement among emergency nurses. Methods:Totally 444 emergency nurses from 8 tertiary hospitals and 1 second A hospital in Beijing were selected.Psychological stressful reactions were measured with the Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R).The social acknowledgment from general society and family to victims was assessed with the Social Acknowledgment Questionnaire (SAQ).Results:Among the 444 samples,96.8% sustained verbal assaults,43.2% underwent physical assaults,32.0% encountered threats, and 4.3% suffered sexual assaults. The results of ANOVA analysis indicated that nurses who suffered 3 types of violence had higher scores of IES-R than the ones who endured one type of violence and 2 types of violence[(22.0 ±16.1)vs.(15.4 ±15.6),(18.1 ± 16.1),Ps <0.01)].Similarly,those nurses who suffered 4 types of violence had higher scores of IES-R than the ones who enduredone type of violence and 2 types of violence [(33.4 ±17.1)vs.(15.4 ±15.6),(18.1 ±16.1), Ps <0.01].Regressive analysis showed that family disapproval, general disapproval, and violence types predicted psychological stress reactions,(β=0.13 -0.40,P <0.05,adjust R2 =0.27).Conclusion:It suggests that violence types, social disapproval and family disapproval may play vital roles in predicting the degree of posttraumatic dis-tress in emergency nurses after suffering from hospital violence.
