ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo explore the effect of home visit based on empowerment education on psychotic symptoms, self-management ability and well-being of schizophrenia patients in home rehabilitation. MethodsA total of 87 cases of schizophrenia patients who met the diagnostic criteria of International Classification of Diseases, tenth edition (ICD-10) and were recovering at home in Caiba town, Yibin city from January to July 2021 were selected by random sampling method as research subjects. They were divided into experimental group (n=43) and control group (n=44) according to the random number table method. The two groups received routine family visits, and the experimental group received family visits based on empowerment education. The intervention cycle of the two groups was 6 months. Before and after the intervention, the severity of psychotic symptoms, self-management ability and well-being of the patients in the two groups were assessed with the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS), the Schizophrenia Self-Management Instrument Scale (SSMIS) and the Index of Well-Being Scale (IWB). ResultsAfter intervention, the intra group comparison showed that the BPRS score in the experimental group was lower than that before the intervention (t=4.550, P<0.01), the SSMIS scores in both groups were higher than those before intervention (t=-17.107, -6.367, P<0.01), and the IWB score in the experimental group was higher than that before intervention (t=-9.239, P<0.01). The comparison between groups showed that the BPRS score of the experimental group was lower than that of the control group, and the SSMIS and IWB scores were higher than those of the control group (t=-3.899, 10.564, 9.690, P<0.01). ConclusionThe implementation of family visit based on empowerment education may help to improve the psychotic symptoms of home rehabilitation schizophrenia, and improve their self-management ability and well-being.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of empowerment education on self-management in patients with diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 128 patients with diabetes mellitus who met the criteria of WHO in 1999 were selected and divided into the control group(62 cases)and the observation group(66 cases). The control group accepted the traditional nursing methods, and the observation group accepted the empowerment education model. FBG, PBG, HbA1c and Diabetes Management Self-efficacy Scale (C-DMSES) were compared between two groups of patients after 3 months and 6 months. Results After the intervention with the empowerment education model, the patient′s FBG, PBG, HBA1c of the control group were (7.69±4.21) mmol/L, (11.78±3.21) mmol/L, (7.95±1.46)%three months after discharge, and (7.21 ± 3.19) mmol/L, (10.48 ± 4.65) mmol/L, (9.15 ± 2.36)% six months after discharge; while in the observation group, FBG, PBG, HBA1c were (6.23 ± 3.59) mmol/L,(9.32 ± 4.06) mmol/L, (6.69 ± 1.10)%three months after discharge, and (6.15 ± 1.89) mmol/L,(7.33 ± 2.10) mmol/L,(6.02 ± 2.17)%. The differences between two groups were significant (t=2.012-5.196, P<0.05). C-DMSES scores of the control group were 103.48 ± 18.41, 134.38 ± 13.01 on admission and six months after discharge, while in the observation they were 102.83 ± 10.91,157.64 ± 19.56. The differences between two groups were significant (t=3.151, P<0.05). Conclusions Empowerment education model can improve the ability of self-management of diabetes patients, improve self-efficacy to improve their own ability to control blood glucose.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effects of breastfeeding behavior through the implementation of family-centered empowerment education in primiparas. Methods According to random digit table,128primiparas in our hospitals were divided into the experimental group and the control group with 64 cases in each group from August 2014 to April 2015.At last 58 patients in the observation group and 59 patients in the control group completed the research. Those primiparas in the experimental group were given the familycentered empowerment education. The control group received conventional methods. Results The scores of breastfeeding self-efficacy,perceived social support and breastfeeding behavior of primiparas in the experimental group were 129.64±12.94,58.94±8.97,89.84±11.32,higher than the control group,101.78±78.67,50.27±10.56,71.56±12.03,the differences had statistical significance between two groups,t=9.656-10.487,P < 0.05.Conclusions Using the family-centered empowerment education can effectively improve the breastfeeding self-efficacy,perceived social support and breastfeeding behavior in primiparas.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effects of empowerment education model on glycemic control and self-management behavior of community patients with diabetes. Method A total of 120 diabetics from 2 different communities were set as the observation group and control group. The control group was treated by routine medications and health education and the observation group was intervened with empowerment education model. After intervention for 6 months, the patients′blood glucose index and the diabetes self-management behavior were assessed and compared by scale of the diabetes self-care activities (SDSCA) between the two groups. Result By the end of the study, the glycemic index and SDSCA score in the former group were both significantly decreased than those in the control group (P<0.05), indicating the patients in the experiment group had better glycemic control and self-management behaviors compared with those in the control group. Conclusions Empowerment education model can arouse the internal motivation of patients to change their behaviors from passive to active acceptance in the health education. Empowerment education model can enhance diabetes patients′self-management conduct and the glycemic level.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effects of empowerment education on rehabilitation in patients with celebral hemorrhage . Methods Select 200 cases of patients with celebral hemorrhage cured rehabilitation medical center ,the patients were randomly and single-blindly divided into 2 groups (n=100 each) .Both the treatment group and the control group were given rehabilitation guid-ance on the day of discharge and 1st ,2nd ,4th ,7th ,9th ,12th weeks after discharge .Patients in control group were given compliance education philosophy ,and patients in treatment group were given empowerment education philosophy .Patients of both groups were used Barthel index (BI) to assess the activities of daily living (ADL)and motor assessment scale (MAS) to motor function in the day of discharge and 25th weeks after discharge from hospital .Results The BI [(44 .12 ± 8 .56) vs .(62 .16 ± 8 .77)]and MAS [(18 .70 ± 9 .47) vs .(28 .53 ± 8 .75)]of treatment group were apparently higher than those of the control group (P<0 .01) .The to-tal effective rate of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group(70% vs .85% ) Conclusion Empowerment educa-tion can obviously improve the ADL function and promote the recovery of motor function in patients with cerebral hemorrhage and improve the effect of family rehabilitation .

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the influence of empowerment education on self-management ability and self-efficacy of patients with coronary heart disease (CHD).Methods 190 patients with CHD were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group. And all patients were trained respectively according to corresponding health education plan of each group by professional worker. These patients filled out the Essential Information Questionnaire (EIQ),Self-Efficacy Integration Scale (SEIS) and Coronary Artery Disease Self-management Scale(CSMS) at baseline,3 months and 6 months after health education. The clinical indexes in two groups such as body mass index, waistline, blood pressure, blood glucose and blood lipid were contrasted. Results The score of self-management ability and the score of self-efficacy in the experimental group was significantly more than that of the control group in 3 months and 6 months after health education, and this difference between two groups still persisted 6 months after health education. However, the score of symptom-maintaining in the SEIS and self-management of addiction, emergency, lifestyle and knowledge of diseases in the CSMS appeared to drop in the control group. Conclusions Empowerment education can significantly improve and increase the self-management ability and self-efficacy of patients with CHD,and this function of empowerment education was proved more enduring than that of traditional health education. So,empowerment education will be a new style of health education in the new model of clinical medicine instead of traditional health education.
