ABSTRACT

Background:One of the best method ofobtaining an idea of the action of any drug is to Study from the Source of the drug, its habitat, how it exists and acts in nature and what does that says for the type of symptoms and type of person that it will help to cure..Objectives:1.To Study the nfeatures of Solanaceae family.2.To determine their utility in clinical Practice. 3.To utilize the above understanding for helping mankind in enjoying a healthy life, free from disease manifestations on mental and physical level. Material & Method:Study of Homoeopathic medicines in Solanaceae in Materia Medica point of view and also through case study after definining, analyzing then further testing data for accuracy.Purposive Sampling for research purpose will be done. Selection of the medicine will be according to concept of individualization. Result:Observed results will be discussed on study of cases in which the efficacy of the Solanacae in various disease conditions shall be present positive and negative points and compare, with the findings in theliterature. Conclusion:Understanding of Solanaceae family from dimensions of Materia Medica, natural habitat helps to understand totality of group and thereby making our knowledge of Materia Medica more complete and precise.

ABSTRACT

[Aim] We compared the effects of acupuncture and press tuck needle (PTN) acupuncture in office workers with physical and psychological fatigue.[Design] A randomized, open-label, parallel-group, comparison study.[Setting] An acupuncture room in the A Clinic within the Kanto Metropolitan Area.[Patients] Clinic workers. The inclusion criteria were 20-45 years of age and awareness of physical and psychological fatigue. The exclusion criteria were fatigue-related diseases and symptoms, medical abnormalities, and history.[Intervention] The subjects were randomly allocated to either the acupuncture treatment group (ACP group) or PTN acupuncture treatment group (PTN group). The interventions were based on acupoints for fatigue symptoms as per previous reports and individualized treatment for physical symptoms, including neck and lower back pain, among others, and were performed twice a week for one month.[Evaluation methods] The visual analog scale (VAS) scores were the primary method for evaluating for physical and psychological fatigue at four weeks post-treatment. Other forms of measurement used were the VAS scores within groups immediately after treatment and to evaluate physical health, the Health Perceptions Questionnaire, General Health Questionnaire-12, and Short Form-36 responses; and salivary amylase levels were used.[Results] Thirteen of 14 subjects in the ACP group and 13 of 15 in the PTN group were included in the analysis. There was no significant difference between the groups for VAS scores. Evaluation, immediately before and after the intervention showed a significant decrease in VAS scores for physical fatigue in both groups. The ACP group showed a greater immediate change than the PTN group. In a comparison within each group, the VAS of psychological fatigue in the PTN group showed significant decrease after the eighth treatment.[Conclusions] Acupuncture may immediately improve physical fatigue in office workers. Moreover, the frequency of using PTN acupuncture may eventually decrease physical fatigue. Therefore, acupuncture and PTN acupuncture can help office workers' health.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To identify the impeding and promoting factors of role definition in nursing handoff, in order to increase the quality of nursing handoff.@*Methods@#Two nursing managers, 22 head nurses and four nurses were recruited by purpose sampling. Data were collected by using focus group study, and analyzed using content analysis.@*Results@#According to the framework of role transition theory, the factors could be classified as individual factors (37 items, 23.72%), organizational factors (105 items, 67.31%), effectiveness of role definition (11 items, 7.05%), and problems of role definition (3 items, 1.92%).@*Conclusions@#Role definition in nursing handoff helping the coming nurse check the performance of the last shift and transfer the nursing responsibility, contributes to the improvement of nursing quality, but there are still many factors affecting the role definition in nursing handoff.

ABSTRACT

Objective To decompose and reformulate Banxia Baizhu Tianma Decoction (BBT) in order to optimize its ratio for vasodilatory effect. The fingerprints of these six component herbs were also studied via Tri-step FTIR analysis. Methods The herbal components of BBT were extracted separately with different solvents, such as 95% ethanol, 50% ethanol, and distilled water. The vasodilatory effect of the extracts was studied using the in vitro pre-contracted aortic ring model. Among these extracts, the water extracts of Pinellia ternata [PT(W)] and Citri reticulatae [CR(W)], 50% ethanol extracts of Gastrodia elata [GE(50)] and Glycyrrhiza uralensis [GU(50)], and 95% ethanol extracts of Atractylodes macrocephala [AM(E)], and Poria cocos [PC(E)] were selected for the orthogonal stimulus-response compatibility group study due to their high effectiveness in vasodilation. Results The best combination ratio (G2) was GE(50), GU(50), AM(E), PC(E), CR(W), and PT(W) at EC0, EC5, EC5, EC5, EC5, and EC5, with EC50 of (0.06 ± 0.01) mg/mL. Comparison between the vasodilatory effects of extracts derived from G2 and BBT were also studied. From the results, the 50% ethanol extract following G2 ratio was found to be most potent extract with the highest vasodilatory effect compared with other extracts derived from G2 or BBT, with EC50 of (0.05 ± 0.005) mg/mL. Conclusion The optimum ratio and appropriate extraction method for the new BBT formulae are obtained. G2 is determined as the best formulae with the highest potency in producing the vasodilatory effect on isolated rat aortic rings. The results obtained suggest that 50% ethanol is found to be the best solvent to extract the vasoactive compounds of G2 in order to exhibit the highest efficacy of vasodilatory effect.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to establish the Korean concept of the terms related to the use of alcohol and to use those terms in order to replace the terminologies which are inadequate within the Korean culture in diagnosing alcohol abuse. To achieve our intent, the Focus Group Study ethnographic research method was used in this study. The results are as follows: 1) Alcohol is generally perceived as a food rather than a substance in Korea. Alcohol-related behaviors are judged to be problematic according to the problems f311owing the drinking behavior rather than the drinking behavior itself. 2) Repetitive drinking in spite of interpersonal problems was found to be a significant diagnostic guideline of alcoholism in Korea. This finding befits the concept of diagnostic criteria of DSM-III-R and ICD-10. 3) It would be to be appropriate to add some of the typical symptoms rather than change the whole diagnostic concept of ICD or DSM to establish the medical concept of withdrawl phenomenon. 4) Alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence are two separate disease entities. Thus, education of the concepts would allow Koreans to distinguish and to use these two terms. 5) The concepts of acute intoxication, abuse, harmful use and dependence in ICD and DSM should be used after an appropriate revision.
