ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate and summarize the clinicopathological features, immunophenotype, differential diagnosis and prognosis analysis of mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma (MTSCC).@*METHODS@#The data of thirteen cases of MTSCC were retrospectively analyzed, the clinical and pathological characteristics and immunohistochemical expression were summarized, and fluorescence in situ hybridization was detected.@*RESULTS@#Among the thirteen patients, four were males and nine females, with a male-to-female ratio of 1 ∶2.25. The average age was 57.1 years, ranging from 39 to 78 years. The maximum diameter of the tumor was 2-12 cm. All cases had no symptoms, and were accidentally discovered, 3 cases underwent partial renal resection, 10 cases underwent radical renal resection, 9 cases were located in the left kidney, and 4 cases were located in the right kidney. Most of the cases showed the classical morphological changes, with 11 cases of nuclear grading [World Health Organization (WHO)/International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) grading system] being G2 and 2 cases being G3. There were 6 cases of stage PT1a, 3 cases of PT1b, 2 cases of PT2a, and 1 case of PT2b and 1 case of PT3a. The positive rates of immunohistochemical staining were: vimentin, AE1/AE3, α-methylacyl-CoA racemase (αMACR) and cytokeratin (CK) 8/18, 100% (13/13); CK7, 92.3% (12/13); epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), 92.3% (12/13); CK20, 46.2% (6/13); CD10, 30.8% (4/13); synaptophysin (Syn), 7.7% (1/13); chromogranin A (CgA), CD57, WT1 and Ki-67, 0 (0/13), and fluorescence in situ hybridization showed that no trisomy of chromosomes 7 and 17 were observed in any of the cases. The follow-up period was 6 months to 7 years and 6 months, 2 cases died after lung metastasis (one with ISUP/WHO grade G3, one with necrosis), and the remaining 11 cases had no recurrence and metastasis.@*CONCLUSION@#MTSCC is a unique type of low-grade malignancy kidney tumor, occurs predominantly in females, widely distributed in age, the current treatment method is surgical resection, and cases with necrosis and high-grade morphology are prone to recurrence and metastasis, although most cases have a good prognosis, but they still need close follow-up after surgery.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression of HSPB1 in pancreatic cancer and its relationship with clinicopathological characterization. Methods Pathological specimens from 47 cases of pancreatic cancers,13 cases of para-cancerous normal pancreatic tissues and 3 cases of chronic pancreatitis tissues were selected, and tissue microarray construction instrument was used to prepare tissue microarray, then the expression of HSPB1 was determined by immunohistochemistry SP method. The scores of the proportion of positive cells and staining intensity were multiplied to make the judgment. Results The expression of HSPB1 in malignant,para-cancerous and chronic pancreatitis tissues was 80.9% (38/47),12.5% (2/16),respectively; and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (X2 =24.058,P =0.000).The expression of HSPB1 in pancreatic cancer tissue was not significantly related to sex, age, location, differentiation degree and nerve infiltration of tumor ( P > 0.05 ).Conclusions The expression of HSPB1 is related to development and progression of pancreatic cancer, and may be an early molecular event.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate the role of vascular endotheliar growth factor(VEGF),chemokine receptor 4(CXCR4) and stromal cell-derived factor-1(SDF-1) in Wilms tumor as well as their relationship with clinical features by examining the expressions of VEGF,CXCR4 and SDF-1.MethodsThirty cases of Wilms tumor samples and 12 cases of adjacent kidney tissue were collected from the First and the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from May 2003 to May 2008.Thirteen boys and 17 girls aging from 4 months to 7 years old of whom were 22 favorable histologic types and 8 unfavorable histologic types.By means of cytoplasm to dye buffy for masculine cell, staining intensity and percentage of positive tumor cells serve as the judgment criteria for being positive or negative. All tissues would be tested by hematoxylin and eosin stain at the same time.ResultsThe positive expression rate of VEGF,CXCR4 and SDF-1 in Wilms tumor were 63.33%,70.0% and 53.33%.Those in adjacent normal kidney tissue were 25.0%,8.3% and 16.7%.The 2 groups were statistically significant(Pa

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the relationship between the expression of FN in heart, lung and kidney and the mechanism of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Method The Fn in heart, lung and kidney in 20 autopsy cases of MODS were studied immunohistochemically by using anti-FN as the first antibodies. Results The expression of FN in the MODS group were significantly decreased as compared with the control group (P

ABSTRACT

WGA-HRP retrograde tracing technique combined with immunohistochemical method was used to study the source of somatostatin postitive fibers in the posterior pituitary. Retrogradely labeled somatostatin immunoreactive cells distributed mainly in the periventricular area from the level of the anterior to posterior magnocellular paraventricular nucleus; single double labeled cells were also found in the periventricular areas at the level of the anterior commissure and posterior fornical nucleus. A few double labeled cells were seen in medial parvocellular paraventricular nucleus and the medial part of posterior magnocelluar paraventricular nucleus. The double labeled cells in the periventricular area lie mainly beneath the ependymal layer. Some were seen to intercalated in-between the ependymal cells, bringing themselves very close to the cerebrospinal fluid, but no direct fluid contacing elements were verified.
