ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the features of alveolar bone morphology of mandibular central incisors in high-angle adult females using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and evaluate the influence of aging in these patients.@*Methods@# CBCT and lateral cephalometric images of 142 untreated adult female patients were selected and grouped by facial growth pattern. The number of high-angle cases was increased to 164 to further explore the difference within high-angle adult females who were divided into two groups according to age. The indexes of alveolar bone height and thickness in the lower incisor region and inclination of the lower incisors were measured by Dolphin software. The data was statistically analyzed.@*Results@#Compared with the average-angle group, the high-angle group had a lower alveolar bone attachment level (P < 0.05) and less bone thickness at the root apex level (P < 0.05). The thickness of lingual alveolar bone decreased with labial inclination of the lower incisors in both the high-angle and average-angle groups (r = -0.251, P = 0.025; r = -0.428, P = 0.001, respectively). In hyperdivergent female patients, the middle-aged group had a lower attachment level of alveolar bone than the young group (P < 0.05), but no significant difference in bone thickness at the root apex level (P > 0.05) was found between the two groups@*Conclusion @# High-angle adult females had thinner mandibular anterior alveolar bone with significantly lower attachment levels. Aging and inclination of lower incisors influenced bone morphology and should be taken into careful consideration.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this research was to determine the inclination of maxillary incisors in subjects with class III malocclusion. Were included 35 subjects with Class III facial deformity (DF-III) to analyze cone beam computed tomography; measurements were realized in the four maxillary incisors identifying the palatal plane considered between anterior and posterior nasal spine and dental axial axis from the union between coronal point and apical point; The results showed angulations from 111.6 to 113.7 for the incisors, which allows estimation of values close to normal dental angulation. It is concluded that the selected subjects present adequate dental angulation to perform surgery first.

ABSTRACT

Methods are presented to calculate more precisely the quantity of incisor displacement during buccolingual inclination movements. It is based on the arc length and chord length of a circle and law of sines with dynamic rotation center formulas. When preformed archwires are used during the orthodontic alignment phases, the inclination taking place on the anterior teeth affects the form and total arch length. At present this aspect has not been evaluated in depth. Guidelines are offered to calculate these variations with the purpose of achieving a more exact space analysis. Representations and case analysis reinforce this proposal.

ABSTRACT

A device called incisor inclination indicator to control the axial inclinations of the incisors in the diagnostic setup is introduced. It is used to control the retraction of the maxillary and mandibular incisors. In this article, we describe the use of the incisor inclination indicator to prescribe adequate torque into the anterior lingual brackets and evaluate the results of treatment in a bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion case that underwent orthodontic treatment with the pretorqued anterior lingual brackets. Retraction of the maxillary and mandibular incisors was achieved with careful control of the axial inclination. It is indicated that the use of the incisor inclination indicator is an effective adjunctive laboratory procedure for anterior torque control during retraction in lingual orthodontic treatment.

ABSTRACT

This study was performed to compare the pattern of dentoalveolar characteristics in different vertical and anteroposterior skeletal types in skeletal Class III malocclusion. The samples selected for this study were consisted of 60 subjects(29 males and 31 females, mean age; 19.7 years) in Class III group, 43 subjects(14males and 29 females, mean age: 20.5 years) in normal group. The findings of this study were as follows; 1. The IMPA of the Class III group was smaller than that of the Class I group(p<0.01). 2. In the Class III groups, SNB and NtoPog had negative correlation with IMPA(p<0.01). The SNB and NtoPog had correlations with SNU1, FHU1 and PalU1(p<0.01) in the male samples, and in the female samples, the SNB and NtoPog had correlations with SNU1(p<0.01). 3. In the Class III male samples, SNMP, FMA, PalMP had negative correlation with IMPA(p<0.01). SNMP, FMA, PalMP had not significant correlation with SNU1, FHU1, PalU1. In the Class III female samples, FMA, PalMP had negative correlation with IMPA(p<0.01). 4. In the high angle group of Class III samples, SNU1, IMPA is smaller than that of low angle group of Class III samples(p<0.05).
