ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Basketball is a physical contact sport that involves complex movements such as jumping, spinning, and changing directions, all of which frequently cause injuries. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to understand the characteristics of injuries on adolescent basketball athletes. METHODS: This study uses a descriptive method with a cross-sectional study approach using a web-based questionnaire (Google Forms) consisting of close-ended questions to examine the history, types, factors, and treatments of the injuries experienced by the adolescent basketball athletes at the Student Sports Training Center (Pusat Pelatihan Olahraga Pelajar or PPOP) of DKI Jakarta. The subjects are 14 male and female athletes with an average age of 15.9±1.1 years old, an average height of 172.29±9.33 centimeters, and an average weight of 65.71±10.06 kilogram. The research instrument is a questionnaire distributed online in the form of Google Forms. A validity test was conducted on the questionnaire using Aikens. Data Questionnaire result data were analyzed using a percentage analysis on the answers to each question in the questionnaire. RESULTS: The results revealed that 76% of the athletes experienced injuries in the lower limb, with the most frequent injury in the ankle joint (45%). Furthermore, the athletes also stated that sprains/twists are the most experienced type of injury (42%). The training sessions were when 79% of the athletes experienced their injuries, whereas the other 21% experienced them during the matches. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study cannot generalize the findings because it only involved 14 participants, which is also a limitation of this study, but these findings report that the greater injury that occurs during exercise is the ankle joint, so the authors suggest doing an adequate warm-up. Before starting a training session or during a competitive training session, preventing i

ABSTRACT

Warships undergo accelerated motion when attacked by underwater explosion in the naval battles, resulting in severe damage of the warship personnel, which is termed as ship shock injury. The ship shock injury is the main factor that causes the loss of fighting capacity of personnel on warships. A great number of studies on ship shock injury have been made at home and abroad. In this paper, we reviewed and analyzed the history, research methods, injury mechanisms and characteristics, and protection and treatment measures of ship shock injury, pointing out the shortcomings of current research and proposing research direction in future. We hoped this paper can help to deepen the understanding of naval surgeons on ship shock injury and provide a reference for the prevention and treatment of ship shock injury.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the injury characteristics of Beagle dogs after warship multi cabin explosion. Methods Forty-eight adult male Beagle dogs were placed in the simulated blast-cabin and adjacent cabin (24 each),and ammunitions respectively containing 0.75kg TNT and 3.50kg TNT were then detonated in the blast-cabin.The survival situation, fluctuation of vital signs, morphological changes of organs and the incidence of various types of injury of the dogs were observed immediately after the explosion to 24h after injury, and the neurological functions score was performed. Results Twenty dogs died immediately after the explosion, and another 9 dogs died 24h after the explosion. The total mortality was 60.42%(29/48),and the mortalities in blastcabin and adjacent cabin were 79.17%(19/24) and 41.67%(10/24),respectively.The dog's skull was penetrated by bomb fragments, and congestion and bleeding were observed in brain tissue, lung, heart, stomach, bowels, liver and kidneys.Extremities fracture, soft tissue contusions, perforation and rupture were also checked out after explosion. The fatality rate of bomb fragment injury, blast injury and combined bomb fragment-blast injury was 27.59%(8/29),17.24%(5/29) and 55.17%(16/29),respectively.Conclusions The combined bomb fragment-blast injury show high incidence and make high fatality rate and serious injury.Combatants should effectually shield themselves with occluded objects as far as possible to avoid damage and reduce fatality. The key of early treatment is to treat the multiple injuries promptly.Intravenous fluid therapy should be practiced after hemodynamic monitoring.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the characteristics of personal injuries in motorcycle accidents in Chongqing area to provide the reliable information and reference basis for reducing the injury and death risk of the motorcycle accidents. Methods Two hundreds and thirteen cases of motorcycle traffic accident occurred in Chongqing area from January 2015 to June 2016 were deeply collected, the collected contents included the basicinformation, driver information and personal injury, etc. Then accident data were statistically analyzed. Results The death rate of motorcycle drivers was higher than that of the pillion passengers. The death causes of craniocerebral injuries and craniocerebral injuries complicating thoracic and abdominal organ injuries accounted for 58.8% and 20 % respectively, the proportions of head and neck, chest and back, lower extremity, upper extremity, abdominal and pelvic part and perineal part MAIS ≥2 were 71%,59%,33%,25%,20% and 7% respectively. The perineal injury rate of motorcycle drivers was higher than that of the pillion passengers. The ratio of occurrence rates between lower extremity fracture to upper extremity fracture was 1.8 ∶ 1,the persons in motorcycles-trucks accidents were easier to suffer from vehicle crushing. Conclusion Head and chest injuries are important causes leading to motorcycle drivers and pillion passengers' death and injury. The perineal injury can serve as an important basis for identifying the drivers and pillion passengers in partial motorcycle accidents.
