ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the mediating role of interdisciplinary cooperation ability between the level of hospice care practice and difficulty degree of hospice care for medical staff, in order to improve the quality of hospice care services for medical staff, and to provide evidence for relevant managers to formulate effective measures to reduce the implementation of hospice care difficulties. Methods:This study was a cross-sectional survey. Using convenience sampling method, the general data questionnaire, Palliative Care Difficulties Scale (PCDS), Palliative Care Self-Report Practice Scale (PCPS) and Modified Index of Interdisciplinary Collaboration (MIIC) were used to investigate 362 medical staff in all hospice care institutions of Shiyan City from July to August 2022.Results:The total score of PCDS in 362 medical staff was (40.58±13.44) points, (67.47 ± 12.50) points for PCPS and (108.36 ± 21.46) points for MIIC. There was a positive correlation between the total score of MIIC and PCDS ( r=0.500, P<0.01). The total score of PCPS was negatively correlated with the total score of MIIC ( r=-0.337, P<0.01) and the total score of PCDS ( r=-0.189, P<0.01). The interdisciplinary cooperation ability of medical staff in hospice care had a complete mediating effect between the level of practice and the degree of difficulty (Effect value=-0.190, 95% CI-0.274 to -0.126), and the mediating effect accounted for 98.5% of the total effect value. Conclusions:The practice level of hospice care can not directly affect the implementation of the difficulty degree, but by taking active measures to improve the interdisciplinary cooperation ability, so as to enhance the practice level, and then reduce the implementation of hospice care difficulty degree.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore strategies for improving hospital scientific research administration by analyzing SCI papers of one Tertiary Referral Hospital published from 2011 to 2016.Methods We retrospectively analyzed the number, paper type, impact factor, title of the authors, discipline distribution and interdisciplinary cooperation of SCI papers of one Tertiary Hospital from 2011 to 2016.Results The total number of SCI papers published from 2011 to 2016 was increasing, among which clinical department increased remarkably.SCI papers published by basic research department accounted for 56.30%.Among clinical departments, half of top 10 SCI paper publishing disciplines were national key clinical ones, producing 61.57% of total papers of clinical departments. In basic research department, the percentage of SCI papers with over 3 impact factor accounted nearly one half.In clinical department, the impact factor of most papers ranged from 1 to 3.Only 9.16% of SCI papers had an impact factor over 5.Articles composed of 85.69% of total papers and 43.51% of the authors had senior professional title.54.94 % of papers were completed by two disciplines or with another institution and most papers with impact factors over 5 were completed by cooperation with another discipline or institution. Conclusions The quantity of SCI papers increased gradually during the past six years. But there were still some existing problems including only few SCI papers with high impact factor, unbalanced discipline development and academic capability of young and middle aged scientific researchers needed to be improved. In order to promote high-level scientific research achievements, some measures need to be taken from facilitating interdisciplinary cooperation, increasing collaboration with other institutions and training young and middle-aged scientific researchers.

ABSTRACT

Older patients often experience a loss of physical, cognitive and social functioning during an acute illness-caused hospitalization. The loss of function could be due to a traditional model of hospital care, which focuses only on diagnosis and treatment of acute disease.Restoration of elderly patients' lost functions is important for better prognosis of hospitalized elderly patients and would reduce the cost of additional medical treatment.Acute care for the elderly (ACE) is a new model of care aiming at function restoration by practicing a geriatric assessment in the special ACE unit of hospital. The ACE intervention includes interdisciplinary team rounds, discharge planning of hospital, medical care review,a prepared environment, and patient-centered care.Multiple randomized control trials have demonstrated that ACE unit can improve the functional status and prognosis of old patients, reduce the cost of hospitalization, and improve patients' satisfaction.Currently,ACE care model is poorly known by Chinese hospitals and doctors. This article introduces the concepts of ACE unit, technical elements and the clinical evidence of its effectiveness.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to collect the suggestions and recommendations of health care professionals involved in the regional palliative care program (OPTIM-study). A total of 101 multidisciplinary health care professionals who participated in the intervention program were interviewed, and 107 meaningful units were obtained from 89 valid interviews. The responses were categorized into “suggestions regardless of profession” (n=59), including “Participate in a multi-disciplinary conference to expand the network of people”, “Try to understand the situation of others”, “Seek support from others when you cannot solve the problem by yourself”, “Pursue all possibilities before giving up”, and “Do not try too hard”. As suggestions to those engaged in each profession, “Suggestions to community pharmacies” and “Suggestions to care managers” are frequently described. An examination of suggestions by the participants in the regional palliative care program could provide some insights to improve community palliative care.
