ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the influence mechanism of intrusive thoughts and ego depletion between effects of workplace violence on burnout sense in clinical nurses. Methods: In May 2019, 10 cities in Henan Province and Fujian Province were selected as sampling cities by the method of grabbing random balls. Using the stratified cluster sampling method, nurses in clinical nursing posts in 22 third class hospitals and 23 second class hospitals were selected as the research objects for a cross-sectional epidemiological survey, including 1200 nurses. A total of 1159 valid questionnaires were collected, and the effective rate was 96.6%. 1159 clinical nurses were investigated by workplace violence scale, event impact scale, self-regulation fatigue scale and job burnout scale. The items contained in the questionnaire were analyzed by exploratory factor analysis with Harman single factor test, and the demographic characteristics of nurses' workplace violence, invasive thinking, self loss and job burnout were compared and analyzed with s-n-k. Results: Those with less than 3 years of service, those with more than 3 years of aggressive thinking and self loss score, and those with less than 3 years of job burnout score; The score of job burnout of unmarried was lower than that of married; The scores of invasive thinking and self loss of non editors were higher than those of current editors; The scores of workplace violence, aggressive thinking, self loss and job burnout of clinical nurses in tertiary hospitals were higher than those in secondary hospitals; The score of job burnout of undergraduate and above is higher than that of junior college and below; The scores of workplace violence, aggressive thinking and self loss of clinical nurses in surgical departments were higher than those in non-surgical departments; The job burnout score of those aged 36 and above was higher than that of those aged <36, The difference was statistically significant (P< 0.05) . Aggressive thinking and self attrition played a mediating role between workplace violence and job burnout. Workplace violence affected job burnout through the single mediating role of aggressive thinking, the single mediating role of self attrition, and the chain mediating role of aggressive thinking self attrition (β=0.16、0.08、0.03, 95%CI: 0.251~0.190、0.121~0.028、0.050~0.012, P<0.05) . Conclusion: Workplace violence affects burnout sense through the independent mediating role of intrusive thoughts and ego depletion and the chain mediating role of intrusive thoughts and ego depletion in clinical nurses.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Little is known about intrusive thoughts associated to different psychological effects of diabetes mellitus and even less is known about the factors related to the use of thought suppression as a regulatory cognitive strategy. Objectives: to explore the psychological impact of type 2 diabetes mellitus, the presence of intrusive thoughts and their suppression in patients seen at the Center for Care and Education of Diabetics in Santa Clara city and to describe the linking of intrusive thoughts and suppression of thoughts with a group of sociodemographic and psychological variables in these patients. Methods: one hundred and twenty one patients attended to in this center were evaluated by means of a structured interview, a semantic differential and the White Bear suppression inventory. Results: the intrusive thoughts in patients with diabetes mellitus may be difficult to be controlled, imply a greater use of suppression of thoughts and their notification is related to schooling, gender and emotional status of the patient. They are generally notified by individuals who feel tense and emotional. The best predictor of suppression of thoughts is a self-image of tense individual. Conclusions: the analysis of intrusive thoughts and their suppression show particularities related to sociodemographic determinants in terms of sex and schooling and to psychological determinants in terms of individuals who perceive themselves as tense and emotional(AU)

ABSTRACT

Worry is a cognitive process in the form of intrusive, repetitive negative thoughts referring to a future event. We adapted and validated the Anxious Thoughts Inventory (AnTI) for use in Brazil, and tested its correlations to the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ), and the Rumination and Reflection Questionnaire (RRQ). 276 Brazilian undergraduates answered all measures. Factor analysis evinced three domains: environmental, own-body and meta-cognitive. Good internal consistency (.86) was detected and positive correlations were found with all measures. The Brazilian version of the AnTI (Inventário de Pensamentos Ansiosos - IPAn) is presented as a valid and reliable measure for use with Brazilian samples, useful in clinical and experimental applications. Further studies are encouraged in order to strengthen the validation process as well as provide useful data on anxious thoughts related to other health variables...

ABSTRACT

A controlled double-blind experimental study was conducted to evaluate the effect of white chestnut on unwanted intrusive thoughts in a sample of seemingly healthy adults who reported having these thoughts regularly. The sample was composed of 70 participants (47 women and 23 men) aged 20-60 (36.42 ±10.52), randomly assigned to one of two groups: white chestnut and placebo (n1=n2=35). The White Bear Suppression Inventory was used for change evaluation. Significant differences were found between the two groups in the global test score [t (68)= -2.16, p<0.05 and d= 0.51], with a predominance of the factor measuring intrusive thoughts [t (68)= -2.84, p< 0.01 and d= 0.67]. Results suggest that white chestnut may be an effective resource for reducing unwanted intrusive thoughts, its effect being clearly distinguishable from that of the placebo
