ABSTRACT
Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of modified Yihuo Qnggan Tuiyi Tang on herpes simplex keratitis with liver meridian and wind-heat，so as to explore its mechanism of action. Method:Totally 130 patients with herpes simplex keratitis with liver meridian and wind-heat were randomly divided into control group and observation group，with 65 cases in each group. The control group was treated with conventional western medicine，while the observation group was treated with modified Yihuo Qinggan Tuiyi Tang in addition to the therapy of the control group for 4 weeks. The clinical efficacy，traditional Chinese medicine（TCM） syndrome score，symptoms and signs，adverse reactions and recurrence rate of the two groups were compared. The levels of serum interferon gamma（IFN-γ），interleukin-6（IL-6），interleukin-8（IL-8） inflammatory factors，malondialdehyde (MDA)，antioxidant activity (TAC)，glutathione peroxidase（GSH-PX）of oxidative stress indexes were detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA）. The levels of CD4+ and CD8+ were measured by flow cytometry. The recurrence rate was observed during 1-year follow-up visit. Result:The total effective rate of observation group was better than that of control group (Z=2.161，P<0.05). After treatment，the scores of eye pain，shame，photophobia，tears，vision loss，redness and total eyelid swelling were significantly lower than those of control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate of TCM syndrome in the observation group was better than that of control group (Z=2.540，P<0.05). After treatment，the scores of pain，eyelid redness，conjunctival congestion，corneal punctate pannus，corneal pannus and corneal pannus depth of symptoms and signs in observation group were better than those of control group (P<0.05). The level of serum IFN-γ in observation group was higher than that of control group，and the levels of IL-6 and IL-8 were lower than those of control group (P<0.05). Levels of MDA in the observation group was higher than that of control group (P<0.05). The levels of CD4+and CD4+/CD8+ in observation group were higher than those of control group，and the levels of CD8+ were lower than that of control group (P<0.05). The recurrence rate in observation group was significantly lower than that in control group after withdrawal for 6 months and 12 months (P<0.05). Conclusion:In addition to the therapy of routine western medicine， modified Yihuo Qinggan Tuiyi Tang has a good clinical efficacy in treating herpes simplex keratitis with liver meridian and wind-heat，and can reduce the scores of TCM syndromes，alleviate symptoms and signs，and reduce the recurrence rate. Its mechanism may be related to reducing inflammation reaction，and improving oxidative stress index and immune function.

OBJECTIVE@#To compare the efficacy difference between thumb-tack acupuncture with surrounding needling method plus medication and medication alone for herpes zoster (HZ) of stagnated heat in liver meridian type.@*METHODS@#According to random number table method, 60 patients with HZ of stagnated heat in liver meridian type were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 30 cases in each one. All the patients were treated with oral valaciclovir hydrochloride dispersible tablets (0.3 g per time, twice per day), mecobalamin tablets (0.5 mg per time, three times a day) and vitamin B (10 mg per time, three times a day) for 15 days. In addition, the patients in the observation group were treated with thumb-tack acupuncture at area 1 cm outside the herpes, with an interval of 3 cm between thumb-tack needles. The thumb-tack acupuncture was given once every 3 days, retained for 48 h, with an interval of 1 day between treatments, and totally 5 treatments were given. The index of herpetic evaluation (stopping time of herpes, scarring time, decrustation time), visual analogue scale (VAS), serum immune-related factors (IgG, IgM, IgA) and serum inflammatory factors (IL-4, IL-17, TNF-α, TGF-β1) were observed before and after treatment in the two groups.@*RESULTS@#After treatment, the stopping time of herpes, scarring time, decrustation time in the observation group were shorter than those in the control group (all 0.05), but the difference before and after treatment in the observation group was superior to that in the control group (<0.05). Compared before treatment, the levels of serum immune-related factors IgG, IgM, IgA were increased in the two groups after treatment (all <0.05), and the levels in the observation group after treatment were higher than those in the control group (all <0.05). Compared before treatment, the levels of serum inflammatory factors IL-4, IL-17, TNF-α, TGF-β1 were reduced in the two groups after treatment (all <0.05), and the levels in the observation group after treatment were lower than those in the control group (all <0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#The thumb-tack acupuncture with surrounding needling method plus medication have the advantages of rapid onset and analgesic effect for HZ of stagnated heat in liver meridian type, which could also improve serum immune-related factors and reduce inflammatory reaction.

[Objective]To study the theoretical basis and clinical efficacy of YiKang decoction in the treatment of pubertal polycystic ovary syndrome. [Methods]According to the diagnostic criteria and clinical characteristics of pubertal polycystic ovary syndrome, the relationship between this disease and liver depression, phlegm and blood stasis, is discussed in three aspects,"liver the thief of the five internal organs","as a result of blood accumulation, adolescent female encounters amenorrhoea","be the nest capsule due to phlegm and blood stasis". And take this as the basis, analyse component value and clinical application value of YiKang decoction and give example to cite. [Results] Pubertal polycystic ovary syndrome was closely related to the pathogenesis of fire derived from stagnation of liver-Qi and syndrome of intermingled phlegm and blood stasis. Clinical application of YiKang decoction has obvious curative effect. In a case, it was proved that the YiKang decoction could adjust the menstrual cycle, reduce acne and obesity, reduce serum luteinizing hormone,luteinizing hormone/follicle stimulating hormone ratio and total testosterone value. [Conclusion]According to the pathogenesis of fire derived from stagnation of liver-Qi and syndrome of intermingled phlegm and blood stasis, the application of YiKang decoction for treatment of pubertal polycystic ovary syndrome,which has clinical utility and obvious curative effect,provides effective treatment for early intervention of the disease.

Objective: By taking the holism and differentiation concepts of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as the guidance, physical, mental and workplace factors were recruited in the observation of depression in employees, and were systematically classified to establish a workplace-related Liver Meridian-depression scale, for providing an evaluation index for depression in employees. Methods: NVIVO 11 software was adopted to assort ancient TCM classics. Based on the holism and differentiation concepts of TCM and well-developed scales, the item pool was determined via brain storm and screened by Delphi method after classified; a Wechat questionnaire was handed out 240 times via the online system 'Wen Juan Xing', and the results were statistically analyzed by the SPSS 17.0 version software. Results: Five dimensions consisting of 80 items were obtained after classification, and 60 items were selected by Delphi method; a total of 216 questionnaires were returned and the return rate was 90%. Of which, 215 questionnaires were valid ones, and the valid rate was 99%. By exploratory factor analysis (EFA), 44 items were obtained, and the aggregate split-half reliability coefficient was 0.922. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the five dimensions, i.e. Liver Meridian, relevant meridians, basic psychological activities, work cognition and emotional reactions, was respectively 0.841, 0.842, 0.914, 0.836 and 0.839, indicating a content internal consistency. The score of each item was highly correlated with the corresponding dimension, and the intercommunity was between 0.474 and 0.801. Nine factors were generated, 2 in the dimension of Liver Meridian, 3 in the dimension of relevant meridians, 2 in the dimension of basic psychological activities, 1 in the dimension of work cognition, and 1 in the dimension of emotional reactions, and the load of each factor was between 0.438 and 0.859. The reliability and validity of the scale were well examined. Conclusion: The scale can be applied to evaluate the qi activities of Liver Meridian and depression symptoms related to workplace.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To analyze the distribution characteristics of hirsutism and the law of meridian differentiation in polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>For the patients of PCOS, the modified Ferriman-Gallwey score (mF-G score) was adopted to evaluate the hirsutism distribution. The clementine data mining software was used to analyze the distribution region of hirsutism and the correlation with meridian.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>A total of 141 patients of PCOS participated in the study. The most common regions of hirsutism were in the upper lip (50.35%) and the lower abdomen (34.04%). The higher frequencies of hirsutism at two regions were at the upper lip and lower abdomen (24.82%), the upper lip and chest (12.06%) and the upper lip and thigh (11.35%). In the analysis on the correlation of the upper lip, lower abdomen and chest with other regions, hirsutism was more common in the nearby regions. In reference to the running course of meridian, the frequencies of hirsutism from high to low were the conception vessel (63.12%), the thoroughfare vessel (61.70%), the liver meridian of foot-(58.16%) and the stomach meridian of foot-(57.45%). According to:-, the high incidence of hirsutism (59.57%） resulted from the change ofand blood inmeridian. .</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Blood plays the important role in the growth of body hair. Regarding theattribution, the incidence of hirsutism at theregions is higher than theregions. The occurrence of hirsutism is closely related toand blood changes in meridians. The conception vessel, the thoroughfare vessel, the liver meridian of foot-andmeridian act highly on the disease.</p>
ABSTRACT
The molecular connectivity index was adopted to explore the characteristics of supramolecular imprinting template of herbs distributed to liver meridian, in order to provide scientific basis for traditional Chinese medicines(TCMs) distributed to liver meridian. In this paper, with "12th five-year plan" national planning textbooks Science of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chemistry of Traditional Chinese Medicine as the blueprint, literatures and TCMSP sub-databases in TCM pharmacology of northwest science and technology university of agriculture and forestry were retrieved to collect and summarize active constituents of TCM distributed to liver meridian, and calculate the molecular connectivity index. The average molecular connectivity index of ingredients distributed to liver meridian was 9.47, which was close to flavonoid glycosides' (9.17±2.11) and terpenes (9.30±3.62). Therefore, it is inferred that template molecule of liver meridian is similar to physicochemical property of flavonoid glycosides and terpenes, which could be best matched with imprinting template of liver meridian.

Objective: Based on supramolecular imprinting template self-recognition theory, to lay the foundation for the in vitro channel tropism research methods of Chinese materia medica (CMM). Using alizarin as imprinting template feature monomer, in vitro affinity chromatography of different pig organs was performed to test the mechanism of alizarin belonging to the liver meridian. Methods: The liver, lungs, tongue, abdominal muscle, leg muscle groups, and other tissues of pigs, as stationary phases, were made into column chromatography. Using PBS as the mobile phase, in vitro affinity chromatography experiments with alizarin belonging to the liver meridian and white sugar belonging to the spleen meridian were conducted, the content of eluent alizarin was measured by HPLC and the content of sugar was measured by UV. By using the analysis of total statistical moment, the various chromatographic parameters and chromatography equations were obtained. Results: The chromatographic parameters for the alizarin in liver, lungs, tongue, abdominal muscles, leg muscles were as following: C0: 0.2509-4.813 mg/mL; AUC: 2.509-48.13 mg; VR: 20.42-30.77 mL; σ2: 282.6-532.7 mL2; H: 14.13-26.63 mL; n: 1.212-1.777; S: 0.759 0-1.000. In the positive control group, the adsorption capacity of liver for alizarin was the strongest, and abdominal, leg, lungs, and tongue were weakened in turn. While in the negative control group, the adsorption capacity of liver for glucose (white sugar) was not the strongest. Conclusion: The adsorption capacity of liver for alizarin is the strongest, and liver has an affinity for alizarin by the super molecular imprinting templates, and it matches the theory of meridian belonging to the liver, which would establish the in vitro channel tropism preliminary research methods of CMM.

Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease is the second most common uveitis in Japan. This is considered an autoimmune disease as the immune system attacks self-melanocytes, and it is characterized by neurological, auditory, and dermatological symptoms in addition to panuveitis. Standard treatment is systemic steroid mass therapy. Also, an inadequate amount of corticosteroid can cause the disease recur or become protracted.<br>Here, we report a case of new-onset VKH disease successfully treated with a combination of ryutanshakanto prepared at Ikkando and goreisan, without any corticosteroids, in a hepatitis B virus carrier.<br>The patient was a 40-year-old male. He visited an eye clinic with bilateral blurred vision, and was diagnosed with bilateral maculopathy at this clinic. He was then referred to our hospital. We diagnosed him with VKH disease and, in accordance with (traditional Japanese) Kampo medicine, also with dampness-heat (shitsunetsu) of the foot's liver meridian with reverting yin (<i>ashi-ketchin-kankei</i>), mild water retention (<i>suitai</i>) and blood stasis (<i>oketsu</i>). We then administered the ryutanshakanto prepared at Ikkando, plus goreisan. His visual acuity consequentially began to improve gradually from the next day, and the disease was finally cured without the administration of any corticosteroid. Thus we believe this suggests that Kampo therapy for VKH disease can be a viable alternative.

[Objective] To observe the effects of different fractions from Cortex Eucommiae on oxidation resistance and anti-despondent of Extradiol-induced kidney-yang deficiency mice,and understand the modern scientific connotation of the properties theories about sweet-flavor,warm-nature,meridian tropism in liver and kidney.[Methods] Healthy adult male ICR mice were divided into six groups randomly:normal control group,model control group,positive control group(Guifudihuang),three groups of Cortex Eucommiae(water fraction,n-butanol fraction,and acetoacetate fraction).Kidney-yang deficiency mice model was established with intraperitoneal injection of estradiol benzoate.The determined indexes included oxidation resistance indexes(activity of SOD,GSH-Px,CAT,content of MDA),anti-despondent indexes(tail suspension,activity of MAO),and anti-fatigue ability.[Results] Oxidation resistance indexes:Three fractions of Cortex Eucommiae all could decrease content of MDA,enhance activeness of SOD.The water and n-butanol fraction could enhance activeness of CAT.The water and acetoacetate fraction could enhance activeness of GSH-Px.Anti-despondent indexes:The acetoacetate fraction of Cortex Eucommiae could lengthen the activity time in tail suspension test,and three fractions of Cortex Eucommiae all could decrease activeness of MAO.Three fractions of Cortex Eucommiae all could lengthen the running distance and time.[Conclusion] Cortex Eucommiae could improve aging and depression caused by kidney-yang deficiency.Oxidation resistance and anti-despondent effects could be an important part of the main effective groups about sweet-flavor,warm-nature,meridian tropism in liver and kidney.The effects of water extract and n-butanol extract were closer and stronger,which could be the main substance basis of common effective groups.

Objective To observe effects of four extracts (water, n-butanol, acetoacetate and petro-leum benzine extracts) from Hippocampus japonicus on kidney-yang deficiency mice induced by extradiol, and reveal the modern scientific connotation about sweet-flavor, warm-nature, meridian tropism in liver and kidney. Methods Kidney-yang deficiency mice was induced by intraperitoneal injection of estradiol benzoate. Effects of four extracts from H. japonicus were observed by measuring physical signs, rectal temperature, grip strength, swimming time, autonomic mobility, creatinine (Cr) and urea (UR) level in serum, haematological indexes, testis index and seminal vesicle index. Results All the four extracts from H. japonicus could markedly improve physical signs and increase seminal vesicle index, RBC, Hb and PLT in blood, and decrease UR level in serum of kidney-yang deficiency mice, water extract and petoleum benzine extract could increase rectal temperature, grip strength, swimming time, autonomic mobility, testis index, WBC, lymphocyte (LY), monocyte (MO), and neutrophilic granulocyte (NE), n-butanol extract could increase autonomic mobility and NE, acetoacetate extract could enhance grip strength and prolong swimming time. Conclusion All above effects of extracts from H. japonicus could be as the basic of improving kidney-yang deficiency, could be an important part of the modern scientific connotation about sweet-flavor, warm-nature, meridian tropism in liver and kidney. Effects of water extract and petroleum ether extract were closer and stronger, which offer enlightenment for searching the common effective substance groups of H. japoniacs.
