ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effect of magnetic attachments application on oral denture restoration .Methods A to-tal of 50 patients with overdenture restoration treatment in this department from April 2012 to April 2014 were enrolled .Abutment tooth were given magnetic attachments restoration after preparations .The masticatory efficiency ,patient satisfaction and post-resto-ration complication were observed and recorded .Results The immediate masticatory efficiency after magnetic attachments restora-tion (0 .65 ± 0 .09) was significant higher than that before restoration(0 .22 ± 0 .04) ,t= 20 .812 ,P 0 .05) .There were 49 cases of immediate satisfaction and 1 case of satisfactory after restoration ,the patient satisfaction rate was 100% ,it was significant higher than that of before restoration(46% ) ,χ2 = 31 .815 ,P< 0 .05 .There were 45 ca-ses of satisfaction and 5 case of satisfactory after restoration ,the patient satisfaction rate was 100% ,it was significant higher than that of before restoration (χ2 = 31 .815 ,P< 0 .05) .Conclusion The masticatory efficiency could be improved significantly by mag-netic attachments to restore denture depletion or dentition defect ,compare with traditional denture ,it can significant shorten adapt time for patients ,and it can enhance patient satisfaction .It has wide prospect for future clinical application .

ABSTRACT

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Conventional mandibular complete denture lacks in support and stability for edentulous patients to use. PURPOSE: To enhance support and stability of mandibular complete denture, 2 implants were inserted on the inter-mental foramina space of edentulous patients. With 2 magnetic attachments on the inner side of the overdenture, we gave immediate loads and evaluated the stability of the implants, the responses of the supporting tissues, and the satisfaction of the patients. MATERIAL & METHODS: 6 edentulous patients (5 male, 1 female) each recieved 2 SLA implants in the inter-mental foramina region and implants were immediately loaded with overdenture with magnet attachments. To evaluate the implants stability and the peri-implant tissues, clinical exams, RFA tests and radiographic exams were preformed at the 1 week, 2wks, 6wks, 12wks, and 24wks. post-surgery. RESULTS: The mean surgery time was 45.7 +/- 7.7 mins., while the denture delivery time was 45.5 +/- 12.6 mins. Only 2 of 14 implants were failed. Survived implants that remained were clincally and radiographically stable. Mean ISQ values were relatively stable, showing 69.71+/-5.55, 69.00+/-9.48, 67.92+/-7.86, 67.92+/-9.58, 70.08+/-7.61, 71.92+/-6.43 at the 1 wk, 2 wks, 6 wks, 12 wks, 24 wks. follow up check. Crestal bone changes were -1.18mm+/-0.68mm, -1.35+/-0.69mm, -1.47+/-0.68 mm at the 6wks, 12wks, 24wks. follow up check. Bleeding on probing(BOP index) was not significant. CONCLUSION: Mandibular ovedentures with 2 magnetic attachments over two interforaminal implants on edentulous patients for immediate function is a recommendable novel treatment for edentulous patients which shows stability on the implants and supporting tissue.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of magnetic attachments in complete overdenture. Methods Casting method was used to fabricate Coping-Keepers for remained roots, and the patients were followed up for 6 months to check the effects of the overdentures retained with Magfit EX attachments. In the experimental group, 21 complete overdentures were made with 33 Magfit EX magnetic attachments for 18 patients. Eleven patients treated with traditional complete overdentures were selected to act as control. The retention force, aspect and comfortableness were subjectively evaluated by the patients of the both groups. Abutment status was observed and compared before and after cementation of the magnetic attachments by measuring periodontal index, including gingival index (GI), sulcus bleeding index (SBI) and bleeding on probing (BOP), etc. Masticatory function of patients in the both groups was measured at 3 time points: immediate, 3 months and 6 months after cementation. Results Patients in experimental group were more satisfied with complete overdentures made up of magnetic attachments than those in control group, especially in retention force and masticatory efficiency and aspect. Magnetic attachments can provide enough retention force for patients and greatly improved the masticatory efficiency and the abutment condition. The masticatory function was to be perfect and stable after 3-6 months. Furthermore, the mobility and periodontal index of most abutments improved after 6 months. Conclusion It is proved that magnetic attachments are effective to improve the function of complete overdentures, worthy to be used widely. It is suggested that the residual root and loosened tooth should be preserved furthest as possible in clinic.
