ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the overactive bladder symptom score (OABSS) in evaluating bladder dysfunction in the different stages among type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, and to explore the value of bladder hyperactivity symptom score in screening early diabetic bladder dysfunction. Methods A total of 1 157 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, aged 40-88 yearswith mean age of 60.2 years, were enrolled from October 2013 to October 2016.The survey included the patients' characteristics, past history, current history,OABSS and quality of life (QOL) index scores.T test, single factor analysis of variance and multiple regression analysis are used to analyze the results. Results As many as 1 157 were qualified for final statistical analysis.OABSS is 1.94 ± 1.23 in group with diabetes duration < 10 years,3.24 ± 1.45in group with diabetes duration 10-20 years, and 4.00 ± 1.72 in group with diabetes duration > 20 years. The differences of OABSS in the different duration of diabetes was statistically significant. As diabetic duration increased,OABSS value increased (F =48.419,P < 0.001).The difference of OABSS in the different HbA1c level, age and concurrent peripheral neuropathy was statistically significant. There was no significant difference of OABSS in the different BMI and distinct therapies. There was no significant difference of OABSS in diabetes with hypertension and without hypertension, with cardiopathy and without cardiopathy, with cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and without CVD,with hyperhpemia and without hyperlipemia. The significant factors were used to make multivariate analysis. The results showed that the duration of diabetes,HbA1 c level, age, peripheral neuropathy were still statistically significant.Standardized partial regression coefficient of diabetic duration was 0.366.OABSS was positively correlated with QOL score (r =0.434,P < 0.001).Conclusions The related symptoms in OABSS with diabetic bladder dysfunction is correlated with the duration of diabetes,HbA1c level, age, concurrent peripheral neuropathy among type 2 diabetes. The duration of diabetes was the most significant factor.OABSS is likely to be one of the tools to assess the early symptoms of diabetic bladder dysfunction.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the relationships between the neck circumference and cardiovascular risk factors of middle-aged and elder people in a community. Methods Altogether 9 665 community residents ( age≥40 years) were enrolled in the present study. The height, weight, neck circumference, waist circumference, blood pressure, total cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol ( LDL-C ) , high density lipoprotein-cholesterol ( HDL-C) , blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, and fasting insulin were measured, and documented in the questionnaire along with other basic information. After adjusted for age, Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze the relationship between the neck circumference and the binary variables of cardiovascular risk factors. SPSS16.0softwarewasusedforstatisticalanalysis. Results (1)Theneckcircumferenceswere(37.11±2.79)cm in male and (32. 79 ± 2. 31) cm in female;which were higher in males than females. In both males and females, after adjusted for age, the neck circumference was positively correlated to waist circumference, body mass index, blood pressure, plasma glucose, LDL-C, triglycerides, and insulin resistance, the neck circumference was negatively correlated to HDL-C(all P0. 05). (2) After adjusted for body mass index and the waist circumference, the neck circumference of males increased with the risk of diabetes ( OR=1. 14, 95% CI 1. 02-1. 28);while the higher neck circumference of females increased the risk of hypertension (OR=1.17,95% CI1.08-1.27),diabetes(OR=1.24,95% CI1.13-1.37),dyslipidemia(OR=1.17,95%CI 1.09-1.27),andinsulinresistance(OR=1.15,95% CI1.06-1.26). Theneckcircumferenceexertedhigher impact on women than it did on men. Conclusion The neck circumference is associated with the cardiovascular risk factors. This association in females is stronger than that in males. The neck circumference seems to be an independent indicator for the cardiovascular risk.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate differences of serum bone gamma-carboxyglutamic-acid-containing protein (BGP)levels be-tween different gender in the middle-aged and elder population and the correlation between serum BGP and osteoporosis,as well as the correlation between BGP and other bone metabolic markers. Methods The study population consisted of 270 health care middle-aged and elder people, who were excluded malignancy and chronic diseases, during 2011 January to Au-gust.Of all the Recipients,101 cases were male, aged 50 to 89 years, with a median age of 68 years old, female 169 cases, aged 50 to 89 years, with a median age of 64 years.Bone density were measured by absorptiometry and was evaluated by the T index values.Serum BGP,25-hydroxyvitamin D,calcium and phosphorus were measured by different assays systems. The different level of BGP between genders was also analyzed by Mann-Whitney test.Correlation between BGP and serum calci-um,phosphorus,25-hydroxyvitamin D,osteoporosis risk index were analyzed Spearman rank correlation analysis. Results T value,BGP,25-hydroxy vitamin D,calcium and phosphorus levels range of 270 cases were-3.5~-0.7 (median-1.6 ng/ml),3.59~264.90 ng/ml (median 12.84 ng/ml),4.0~34.0 ng/ml (media 10.5 ng/ml),1.79~2.69 mmol/L (median 2.36 ng/ml),0.43~2.89 mmol/L (median 1.12 ng/ml),respectively.BGP levels in the female groups were significantly higher than the male groups.Serum concentration of BGP was positively correlated with serum phosphorus, but the serum BGP with calcium,25-hydroxy vitamin D,age and osteoporosis risk indices were not correlated. Conclusion In the elder groups, female BGP levels were significantly higher than male, the gender factor should be considered in the clinical applica-tion of BGP.Since BGP and osteoporosis risk index T had positive correlation, those two tests can be combined to evaluate osteoporosis.
