ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the status of the ability of emotion and behavior management and to explore the influence factors among the elderly in Zhoushan City. Methods Self -designed questionnaires of Activity of Daily Living Scale and Emotion -Behavior Assessment were used to investigate the elderly in Lincheng District,Zhoushan. The incidence of emotion and behavior abnormities were statistically analyzed. The influence factors were analyzed by chi -square test, rank -sum test and the ordinal regression. Results A total of 1 260 valid questionnaires were collected, the incidence of emotion and behavior abnormities among the elderly was 5.56% and the number of mild, moderate, and severe abnormity were 40,19 and 11,which accounted for 3.17%,1.51% and 0.87%.Univariate analysis showed that there were significant differences in emotion and behavior among age, education, marital status, living situation, prevalence, income and the daily living skills.Ordinal regression analysis showed that the major influence factors were living situation, income and the daily living skills. The ordinal regression analysis also showed the risk of emotional and behavior disorders of the elderly in nursing homes were 17.05 times higher than those who live with spouse (95%CI =4.31-67.35),and the elderly with monthly income below 465 yuan were 9.37 times higher than those who with monthly income over 1 160 yuan (95%CI =1.63 -53.79),and the severe, moderate and mild dependent elderly were 236.28, 32.29 and 13.79 times higher than the elderly who were independent. Conclusion Psychological care for the elderly with low income, poor self -care ability and living in nursing homes should be highly focused on.

ABSTRACT

Objective To build the prognostic model of STBI and provide guidance for making clinical decision .Methods A total of 486 patients with STBI was collected .Six months after injury ,according to GOS ,the patients were divided into five levels :good , mild-to-moderate disability ,serious disability ,persistent vegetative state and death .Ordinal regression analysis were used to find out the main factors of different populations .Results There were significant differences between different levels in nine factors .The re-sult of ordinal regression analysis showed that GCS ,age ,rescue time and reaction of pupil to light stood as independent variables in prognosis of patients with STBI(P<0 .05) .The outcomes from the prognostic model were pretty much exactly the same as the ac-tual results(Kappa= 0 .640 ,P= 0 .026) .Conclusion Though using the prognostic model of STBI ,the present study found out prognosis was closely related to GCS ,age ,rescue time and reaction of pupil to light in patients with STBI ;thus it could provide guidance for prognosis evaluation .

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the situation of depression and its related influencing factors among medical staff in Hunan province. Methods Data were collected through random sampling with multi-stage stratified cluster.Wilcoxon rank sum test,Kruskal-Wallis H test and Ordinal regression analysis were used for data analysis by SPSS 17.0 software. Results This survey was including 16 000 medical personnel with 14 988 valid questionnaires and the effective rate was 93.68%.Results from the single factor analysis showed that factors as:level of the hospital grading, gender, education background, age, occupation, title, departments, the number of continue education, income, working overtime every week, the frequency of night work, the number of patients treated in the emergency room etc.,had statistical significances (P<0.05).Data from ordinal regression showed that the probabilities related to depression that clinicians and nurses suffering from were 1.58 times more than the pharmacists (OR=1.58,95% CI:1.30-1.92).The probability among those whose income was less than 2000 Yuan/month was 2.19 times of the ones whose earned more than 3000 Yuan/month (OR=2.19,95%CI:2.05-2.35).The higher the numbers of days with working overtime every week, the frequencies of night work, and the numbers of patients being treated at the emergency room, with more probabilities of the people with depression seen in our study. Conclusion Depression seemed to be common among doctors and nurses. We suggested that the government need to increase the monthly income and to reduce the workload and intensity, lessen the overworking time, etc.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the satlsfaction of senior outpatients over 60 years old,and explore the factors associated with their satisfaction so as to provide scientific references for improving quality of care at the hospital Methods A questionnaire survey was made by random sampling at the hospital. The outcomes subject to Ordinal regress Results The general satisfaction was as high as 82.77% among these outpatients. Results of the Ordinal regression model showed seven factors significantly affecting such satisfaction rate, namely waiting time for registration, correct statement of medicine information, patience to hear patient's concerns, carefulness of inspection, time for doctor-patient communication, request for comments on therapy, and outpatient clinic seating conditions. Conclusion Senior outpatients tend to emphasize medical skills and medical service than waiting time at the hospital. This suggests better medical skills and service attitude as key to higher general satisfaction rate of senior outpatients.

ABSTRACT

This paper is aimed at constructing an algorithm to detect students at high risk for academic failure and at identifying the best preformance predictors. The students that were admitted in the first year at Victoria de Girón Institute of Preclinical Basic Sciences during the course 2001-2002 were characterized according to their preuniversity academic index, roster index, admission test, intelligence test and an indicator of their professional motivation. Classification trees were used to identify the relevant predictors and their optimal cut-off points. A model of ordinal regression was used to evaluate the relative importance of the predictors and to propose the prediction algorithm.Starting only from the roster index, it was obtained a classification procedure that allowed to identify students at the highest risk for academic failure. The cut-offs were 87 and 91 points, which define a trichotomy for the performance prognosis.
