ABSTRACT

Resumen La gestación por sustitución (GS) se ha instalado como una vía de acceso a la homoparentalidad masculina y pese a que en Argentina no está reglamentada, se lleva adelante en un escenario "paralegal". Desde hace tiempo, organizaciones LGBT proponen su regulación bajo el argumento de que la GS representa la única opción que tiene una pareja de varones homosexuales de tener un/a hijo/a con lazo genético, aunque sólo con uno de ellos, y reconocer consecutivamente ambos vínculos filiatorios. A través del trabajo etnográfico realizado en el marco de un proyecto de investigación de posgrado, nuestro objetivo es recuperar las experiencias de parejas gays que buscan la legitimidad de los procesos de GS y el acceso igualitario en el sistema de salud. En ello, apuntamos a una reflexión que articula la construcción de políticas públicas en salud y los reclamos de sectores del movimiento LGBT, poniendo el foco en los sentidos de la experiencia colectiva, en los modos en que estos actores organizan sus demandas familiaristas y en las concepciones y prácticas que articulan esos reclamos con la producción de políticas públicas.


Abstract Surrogacy (GS) has been established as a means of access to male homoparenting and, despite not being regulated in Argentina, it is negotiated in a "paralegal" scenario. For some time now, LGBT organizations have proposed regulation based on the argument that GS represents the only option available for a male homosexual couple to have a child with a genetic link, albeit with only one of them, and consecutively acknowledge the family ties of both. By means of ethnographic work carried out within the scope of a postgraduate research project, our objective is to ascertain the experiences of male homosexual couples who seek the legitimacy of GS processes and equal access to the healthcare system. With this in mind, we seek a reflection that articulates the construction of public health policies and the claims of sectors of the LGBT movement, focusing on the meanings of the collective experience, on the ways in which these actors organize their family demands, and on the conceptions and practices that articulate these claims with the production of public policies.

Resumo O ensaio teórico parte de seis reportagens sobre casais homoafetivos e pessoas gays e lésbicas para interseccionar homoparentalidade e adoção de crianças com deficiência, pelas lentes das ciências humanas e sociais em saúde coletiva. As reportagens foram interpretadas à luz dos estudos sobre adoção homoparental e adoção de crianças com deficiência. Abordagens feministas sobre cuidado e deficiência também compuseram o olhar interpretativo, operando como teias expressivas das gramáticas do capacitismo. Verificou-se que as abordagens midiáticas endossam o direito à constituição familiar e à adoção de crianças com deficiência por famílias homoparentais, sem aprofundar criticamente a categoria deficiência e sem destacar apoio à adoção de todos os perfis de adotandos. E que as intersecções entre homofobia e capacitismo incrementam lógicas discriminatórias e de opressão, sendo a união de grupos considerados "indesejáveis" uma estratégia de governamentalidade que revela a complexidade das gramáticas do capacitismo aplicadas aos direitos sexuais e reprodutivos de adotantes LGBTQIA+ e aos direitos fundamentais de crianças e adolescentes com deficiência disponíveis para adoção.


Abstract The present theoretical essay is based on six reports concerning same-sex couples and gay and lesbian people in order to interconnect homoparenting and the adoption of children with disabilities, through the lenses of human and social sciences in public health. The reports were interpreted in light of studies on same-sex adoption and the adoption of children with disabilities. Feminist approaches related to care and disability were also included in the interpretative perspective, operating as expressive webs of grammars of ableism. It was found that media approaches endorse the right to family formation and the adoption of children with disabilities by homoparental families, but with little critical depth on the category of disability and without highlighting support for the adoption of all adoptee profiles. Moreover, the intersections between homophobia and ableism increase discriminatory and oppressive logics, with the union of social groups considered to be "undesirable" representing a strategy of governmentality that reveals the complexity of grammars of ableism, applied to the sexual and reproductive rights of LGBTQIA+ adopters and to the fundamental rights of children and adolescents with disabilities who are available for adoption.

ABSTRACT

Resumo Este estudo objetiva analisar as experiências de um homem trans durante o período gravídico-puerperal e a perspectiva de enfermeiras obstetras em formação, a partir das dinâmicas e da organização dos cuidados de saúde obstétricos em ambiente hospitalar. Trata-se de um estudo de abordagem qualitativa, baseado em estudo de caso, em que utilizou entrevistas e observações diretas para a coleta das informações. A análise foi feita a partir do marco teórico e normativo do Processo de Enfermagem, da Teoria dos Cuidados e da perspectiva teórico/crítica do transfeminismo. Os resultados estão organizados em seis categorias: Homem trans em contexto de gestação, parto e puerpério; parceria e dimensões parentais; dilemas enfrentados pelo casal grávido; impressões registradas pela profissional de enfermagem; compreensão do caso sob a lente teórica e epistemológica; implicações para os profissionais da saúde. Destaca-se a necessidade de promover espaços de educação permanente junto aos profissionais da saúde e reformular legislações de maneira a viabilizar a elaboração de políticas públicas baseada no respeito à diversidade e cuidado equânime, reconhecendo as especificidades da população trans nos contextos da gestação, parto e puerpério.


Abstract This study aims to analyze the experiences of a transgender man during the gestational-puerperal period and the perspective of obstetric nurses in training based on the dynamics and organization of obstetric healthcare in a hospital setting. This qualitative study is based on a case study approach, employing interviews and direct observations to collect data. The analysis was based on the theoretical and normative framework of the Nursing Process, the Theory of Caring, and the theoretical/critical perspective of transfeminism. The results are organized into six categories: Transgender man in the context of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum; partnership and parental dimensions; dilemmas faced by the pregnant couple; impressions recorded by the nursing professional; understanding of the case through a theoretical and epistemological lens; implications for healthcare professionals. We underscore the need to promote spaces for continuing education among healthcare professionals and to reformulate legislation in a way that enables the development of public policies based on respect for diversity and equitable care, recognizing the transgender population's specificities in the contexts of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.

Resumo Buscou-se compreender os sentidos e significados do exercício parental entre homens trans que engravidaram antes da transição de gênero por meio de uma pesquisa qualitativa, na qual participaram cinco interlocutores, cuja análise foi realizada à luz das teorias sociais de gênero. Os resultados demonstraram uma experiência parental sujeitada a um campo de tensão e negociações, além de uma produção subjetiva que oscilava entre a transgressão e a acomodação da perspectiva cultural da sua própria vivência. Identificou-se práticas de violências que reiteraram as vulnerabilidades sociais, deflagraram as fragilidades dos serviços de saúde e provocaram efeitos deletérios em homens trans que engravidam antes da transição de gênero.


Abstract This qualitative study, with five participating interlocutors, sought to understand the senses and meanings of parenting among trans men who became pregnant before gender transition. Analysis was conducted in light of social theories of gender. The results demonstrated an experience of parenthood subject to a field of tensions and negotiations, as well as subjective production that oscillated between transgression and accommodation of the cultural perspective of their own experience. The forms of violence found to be practiced reiterated social vulnerabilities, exposed healthcare service weaknesses and produced harmful effects on transgender men who become pregnant before gender transition.

ABSTRACT

Resumo Pessoas sexo-gênero-diversas e que são não-monogâmicas tensionam a cisnormatividade e a mononormatividade. Em termos científicos, há uma nebulosidade quanto aos arranjos parenterais dessas pessoas. Assim, esta etnografia objetiva compreender a percepção de pessoas sexo-gênero-diversas não-monogâmicas sobre parentalidades. O referencial teórico utilizado partiu dos estudos não-monogâmicos, amor e sexualidade das Ciências Sociais e Humanas em Saúde da Saúde Coletiva, e o metodológico da etnografia digital. O trabalho de campo ocorreu entre 2021 e 2022, em um grupo on-line do WhatsApp. A observação participante foi empregada no grupo e foram realizadas entrevistas on-line semiestruturadas. Emergiram duas categorias: a) Os nós das parentalidades não-monogâmicas e b) As parentalidades coletivas. Na primeira, se explora a importância do vínculo nas redes afetivas e expõe as barreiras desses arranjos familiares. Já na segunda, se descreve a importância do viver em comunidade, bem como o resgate à ancestralidade indígena e negra. O resgate à ancestralidade e às formas de se viver em comunidade ganham relevo à medida que se compreende a importância que estes possuem na vivência das parentalidades de pessoas sexo-gênero-diversas e que são não-monogâmicas.


Abstract Sex-gender-diverse and non-monogamous strain cisnormativity and mononormativity. In scientific terms, the parenting arrangements of these people are uncertain. Thus, this ethnography aims to understand the perception of non-monogamous sex-gender-diverse people about parenting. The theoretical framework adopted is derived from non-monogamous studies, love and sexuality from the Social and Human Sciences in Public Health and the digital ethnography methodological framework. Fieldwork occurred from 2021 to 2022 through an online WhatsApp group. Participant observation was employed in the group, and semi-structured online interviews were held. Two categories emerged: a) The non-monogamous parenting nodes and b) Collective parenting. In the first, the importance of bonds in affective networks is explored, and the barriers to these family arrangements are exposed. The second describes the importance of living in a community, and Indigenous and Black ancestry is revived. The revived ancestry and ways of living in a community gain importance as we understand their relevance in the experience of parenting for sex-gender-diverse people who are non-monogamous.

RESUMO. Frente ao número crescente de crianças menores de dois anos expostas às telas, preocupações com o desenvolvimento dos bebês têm emergido e sido foco de discussões acadêmicas e clínicas. Para buscar compreender as razões que levam os pais a disponibilizarem as mídias digitais aos bebês, entrevistas foram conduzidas com mães e pais de crianças com idades entre dez e 17 meses, domiciliados na região metropolitana de Porto Alegre, Brasil. Apesar das orientações das sociedades de pediatria, verifica-se discrepância entre a divulgação deste conteúdo e o acesso a ele. Os pais, por desconhecimento e também por necessidade, disponibilizam diferentes mídias ao bebê, que é percebida em diversas situações como positiva e facilitadora nos cuidados com a criança; os pais alegam que o acesso precoce pelo bebê é importante para aprimorar a destreza cognitiva e capaz de gerar interação familiar. Por outro lado, apresentam preocupações diante do uso de telas em detrimento de outras formas de brincar. Evidencia-se que os pais precisam de orientações e suporte, assim como os profissionais devem considerar as necessidades das famílias ao elaborar diretrizes a fim de orientá-los.


RESUMEN Frente al creciente número de niños menores de dos años expuestos a las pantallas, preocupaciones sobre el desarrollo de los bebés han sido el foco de discusiones académicas y clínicas. Para comprender porque madres y padres exponen a sus hijos a tecnologías digitales se han realizado entrevistas en profundidad con madres y padres de bebés con edades entre 10 y 17 meses, domiciliadas en la región metropolitana de Porto Alegre, Brasil. A pesar de las pautas recomendadas por las sociedades pediátricas sobre al acceso a las pantallas, los padres muestran discrepancia acerca de las mismas. Los progenitores, debido tanto a la falta de conciencia, como a la necesidad comparten sus dispositivos con los bebés. Los padres afirman estar preocupados por el futuro de los niños y perciben el acceso temprano a la tecnología como una herramienta importante para mejorar las habilidades cognitivas y fortalecer los lazos familiares. También señalaron que las potencialidades en el uso para generar interacciones familiares, destacando la supervisión de los padres. Por otro lado, los padres manifiestan preocupación ante el uso de la tecnología a expensas de otras formas de juego. Los progenitores necesitan orientación y apoyo, al igual que los profesionales deben considerar las necesidades de las familias al formular recomendaciones.


ABSTRACT. Considering the large number of children under the age of two that are constantly exposed to digital screens, concerns about child development have been emerging and becoming the focus of academic and clinical discussions. In order to understand the reasons why parents expose their infants to digital technologies, we conducted in-depth interviews with mothers and fathers of infants aged between 10 and 17 months living in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, Brazil. Despite the guidelines of local pediatric societies, our data points to divergences between what is recommended by the board of pediatrics and the patterns of screen exposure documented in our study. Parents, out of unawareness and/or urgent need, introduce their babies to digital technologies. Parents claimed to be concerned with the future of children and perceived early access to digital technology as an important tool to improve cognitive skills and to strength family bonds. Conversely, parents had concerns in face of technology at the expense of other forms of play. Our findings highlight that parents need additional guidance and support, while professionals should weight needs and daily challenges experienced by families when formulating guidelines.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic led countries' governments to rapidly establish lockdowns and social distancing, which altered family routines and the quality of family relationships worldwide. Objectives This exploratory cross-sectional study aimed to identify the impacts of the social distancing and lockdown in parenting practices of caregivers from Brazil, Mexico, and the USA, and to analyze the continuity of parenting intervention support for children and their families at the beginning of the pandemic in these countries. Methods The sample consisted of 704 caregivers of children (286 from Brazil, 225 from Mexico, and 193 from the USA) who answered an online survey about parenting practices before/after quarantine, caregiver/child routines, feelings related to quarantine, changes in everyday life since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, contact with health professionals, and sources of parenting information. Results Data indicate that caregivers from the three countries experienced similar parenting practices during this time, and did not report significant changes before and after the lockdown. They sought information about parenting predominantly via social media. Those receiving previous mental health care perceived the transition from in-person to telehealth services during the pandemic as feasible and acceptable. Conclusion This study will be helpful for clinicians and parents to contextualize their practices amid long-standing effects that the COVID-19 pandemic can have on children and their families during and post-pandemic from multiple cultural backgrounds.

Abstract Background There is a large literature on the significant impact of rearing factors in the psychological development of different child's learning patterns and wellbeing in elementary and secondary schools, but there is a scarcity of studies on to what extent those influences remain stable up to higher education. Objective In this study, parenting practices and family status were analyzed as predictors of the different learning styles, psychological difficulties, mental health factors, and academic performance, comprising the psychosocial diversity in learning (DinL) at the university classroom. Methods Using a cross-sectional design, a questionnaire was administered to a sample of 2522 students at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). It included a DinL scale measuring five psychological learning dimensions (coping with difficulties, effort, autonomy, Social/Physical Context, and understanding/career interest), plus several items on retrospective parenting practices, family, and sociodemographic variables. Multiple regressions and analyses of variance were conducted with the family factors as independent variables and the learning factors as dependent variables. Results Results showed parenting variables, parents' education, and family economy as having a significant impact on psychological learning dimensions, academic performance, and especially on the students' wellbeing and mental health status, being an important contributors to explain the DinL in the university classroom. Conclusion The results bring interesting conclusions for developmental and health psychologists when working with parents aimed at fostering wellbeing and learning strategies related to academic inclusion and achievement.

Abstract Objectives: to identify the factors and variables that interfere with the maternal perception of security at postpartum. Methods: a cross-sectional study, carried out in three Portuguese hospital units, with a non-probabilistic sample of 352 puerperal women, recruited from the postpartum units on the day of hospital discharge after delivery. Maternal sociodemographic and obstetric characteristics, as well as data on monitored pregnancy, childbirth and infant feeding, were collected through the application of a questionnaire developed by the researchers. For the analysis of maternal perception of security, the instrument "Parents' postnatal sense of security" (PPSS) was used. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. Results: women who lived with their partner (t (349) = - 2.34, p=0.020), were multiparous (t (349) = - 2.26, p=0.025), had pregnancy monitored (t (349) = -3.25, p=0.001), had a positive childbirth experience (F (1, 351) = 7.07, p=0.008) and those who exclusively breastfed during hospitalization (F (2, 351) = 11,43, p<0.001), presented greater perception of security at postpartum. Conclusions: the factors that affect the maternal perception of security at postpartum are cohabitation with a partner, parity, monitored pregnancy, childbirth experience and infant feeding. Defining which factors interfere with maternal security at postpartum may contribute to the construction of intervention programs that promote the maternal perception of security at the time of hospital discharge after delivery.


Resumo Objetivos: identificar os fatores que interferem na percepção de segurança materna no pós-parto. Métodos: estudo transversal, realizado em três unidades hospitalares portuguesas, com uma amostra não probabilística de 352 puérperas recrutadas nos serviços de internamento, no dia da alta hospitalar após o parto. As caraterísticas sociodemográficas e obstétricas maternas, assim como os dados relativos aos cuidados pré-natais, ao parto e ao tipo de aleitamento, foram recolhidos através da aplicação de um questionário desenvolvido pelas investigadoras. Para a análise da percepção de segurança materna foi usado o instrumento "Parents' Postnatal Sense of Security" (PPSS). Foi utilizada estatística descritiva e inferencial para a análise de dados. Resultados: as mulheres que viviam com o companheiro [t (349) = - 2,34, p=0,020], as multíparas (t (349) = - 2,26, p=0,025), as que vigiaram a gravidez [t (349) = -3,25, p=0,001], as que tiveram uma experiência de parto positiva [F (1, 351) = 7,07, p=0,008] e as que amamentaram em exclusivo durante o internamento [F (2, 351) = 11,43, p<0,001], apresentaram maior percepção de segurança no pós-parto. Conclusões: os fatores que interferem na percepção de segurança materna no pós-parto são a coabitação com o companheiro, a paridade, a vigilância da gravidez, a experiência de parto e o tipo de aleitamento. Determinar os fatores que interferem com a segurança materna no pós-parto pode contribuir para a construção de programas de intervenção promotores da percepção de segurança materna no momento da alta hospitalar após o parto.

ABSTRACT

Introducción: El predominio y asequibilidad actual de los teléfonos móviles inteligentes han permitido una amplia difusión de variedad de aplicaciones a nivel mundial para el monitoreo del crecimiento y del estado nutricional de los lactantes. No obstante, la mayoría de estos recursos no son lo suficientemente completos para proveer una interfaz amigable de seguimiento del crecimiento, combinada con una adecuada educación parental en materia de nutrición y alimentación complementaria. Objetivos: Este trabajo pretende presentar el desarrollo y evaluación de la aplicación propuesta "Baby Home", con el fin de estudiar su potencial como herramienta digital de apoyo a padres y cuidadores en el cuidado nutricional de sus niños desde el hogar. Materiales y métodos: Baby Home integra una interfaz de seguimiento interactivo del crecimiento del bebé con una serie de contenidos educativos alimentarios, posibilitando al usuario consultar las prácticas recomendadas según el estado nutricional estimado de su bebé. Un conjunto de 7 jueces expertos fue reunido para evaluar la validez de estos contenidos consignados en la aplicación. Posteriormente, se llevó a cabo un estudio de prueba piloto con 8 madres participantes, las cuales aportaron en las fortalezas y debilidades de las funcionalidades propuestas. Resultados: la aplicación desarrollada muestra una aprobación positiva por los especialistas consultados y una aceptación satisfactoria entre las madres participantes gracias a su diseño amigable y funcionalidades de fácil uso. Los recursos visuales implementados prueban ser adecuados para la apropiación de los contenidos alimentarios y el empoderamiento del usuario en torno a los cuidados nutricionales que requieren sus niños. Conclusiones: Baby Home se ubica como un soporte práctico y accesible para el cuidado nutricional del lactante, otorgando seguridad y confianza al usuario en la alimentación de su niño y disponiendo la posibilidad de detectar oportunamente problemas de crecimiento.


Introduction: The current prevalence and affordability of smartphones have enabled a broad diffusion of a variety of mobile applications worldwide for monitoring infant's growth and nutritional status. However, most of these resources are not comprehensive enough to provide a user-friendly interface for growth tracking combined with proper parental education on nutrition and complementary feeding. Objectives: This work aims to present the development and evaluation of the proposed application "Baby Home", in order to study its potential as a digital tool for supporting parents and caregivers in the nutritional care of their children from home. Materials and methods: Baby Home integrates an interactive baby growth monitoring interface with a collection of educational content on infant feeding, allowing the user to check the recommended practices based on the estimated nutritional status of their baby. A panel of seven expert judges was assembled to evaluate the validity of these contents included in the application. Subsequently, a pilot study was carried out with eight participating mothers who contributed to the strengths and weaknesses of the proposed functionalities. Results: The developed application received positive feedback by the consulted specialists and a satisfactory acceptance within the participating mothers thanks to its friendly design and easy-to-use functionalities. The implemented visual resources proved to be well suited for the user's appropriation of feeding contents and their empowerment regarding the nutritional care required by their children. Conclusions: Baby Home is positioned as a practical and accessible support for the nutritional care of infants, providing safeness and confidence to the user in their child's feeding and the possibility of timely detection of growth problems.

Abstract Objective: family-centered care during invasive procedures has been endorsed by many professional health care organizations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the health professionals' attitudes towards parental presence during their child's invasive procedure. Method: pediatric healthcare providers (divided in professional categories and range of ages) from one of the Spain's largest hospitals were asked to complete a questionnaire and write free-text comments. Results: 227 responded the survey. Most (72%) participants, in their answers, reported that parents are sometimes present during interventions, although there were differences between professional categories in this respect. The procedures in which the parents were present were those considered "less invasive" (96% of cases), while only 4% were present in those considered "more invasive". The older the professional, the less necessary parental presence was considered. Conclusion: the attitudes towards parental presence during pediatric invasive procedure are influenced by the professional category, the age of the healthcare provider and the invasiveness of the procedure.


Resumo Objetivo: o atendimento centrado na família durante procedimentos invasivos tem sido endossado por muitas organizações profissionais de saúde. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as atitudes dos profissionais de saúde em relação à presença dos pais durante o procedimento invasivo realizado em seus filhos. Método: os prestadores de serviços de saúde pediátricos (divididos em categorias profissionais e faixa etária) de um dos maiores hospitais da Espanha foram solicitados a preencher um questionário e escrever comentários de texto livre. Resultados: a pesquisa foi respondida por 227 pessoas. A maioria (72%) dos participantes, em suas respostas, relatou que os pais algumas vezes estão presentes durante as intervenções, embora houvesse diferenças entre as categorias profissionais a esse respeito. Os procedimentos em que os pais estavam presentes eram aqueles considerados "menos invasivos" (96% dos casos), enquanto apenas 4% estavam presentes naqueles considerados "mais invasivos". Quanto mais velho o profissional, a presença dos pais foi considerada menos necessária. Conclusão: as atitudes em relação à presença dos pais durante o procedimento pediátrico invasivo são influenciadas pela categoria profissional, a idade do prestador de serviço de saúde e a invasividade do procedimento.


Resumen Objetivo: la atención centrada en la familia durante procedimientos invasivos ha sido respaldada por muchas organizaciones profesionales dedicadas al cuidado de la salud. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar las actitudes de los profesionales de la salud con respecto a la presencia de los padres durante los procedimientos invasivos realizados en niños. Método: a los prestadores de atención médica en Pediatría (divididos en categorías profesionales y rangos de edad) de uno de los hospitales más importantes de España se les solicitó que respondieran un cuestionario y redactaran comentarios de texto libre. Resultados: un total de 227 profesionales respondieron la encuesta. En sus respuestas, la mayoría (72%) de los participantes informó que, en ocasiones, los padres están presentes durante las intervenciones, aunque se registraron diferencias entre las distintas categorías profesionales al respecto. Los procedimientos en los que los padres estuvieron presentes se consideraron como "menos invasivos" (96% de los casos), mientras que solamente el 4% estuvo presente en los considerados "más invasivos". A mayor edad de los profesionales, menos necesaria se consideró la presencia de los padres. Conclusión: las actitudes con respecto a la presencia de los padres durante procedimientos pediátricos invasivos se vieron influenciadas por la categoría profesional, la edad del prestador de salud y la invasividad de los procedimientos.

ABSTRACT

The association between the sociodemographic variables of children with behavior problems and mothers with maternal depression is widely acknowledged in the literature. However, there is a lack of studies addressing the association of these variables with maternal parenting practices in typical samples, i.e., children without behavior problems and mothers without current depression indicators. The aim of this study was to identify associations between the sociodemographic variables of children and mothers with the mothers' parenting practices and children's behavioral indicators (resources and problems) in a sample of children without behavior problems and mothers without current depression indicators. This quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational study addressed 46 biological mothers (married or in a stable relationship) and their children. A sociodemographic questionnaire and validated instruments addressing child behavior, maternal mental health, and parenting practices were applied. Findings showed that the mothers did not present mental health problems (e.g., behavior problems or maternal depression), but a) they presented deficits of positive practices and an excess of negative practices, and the children displayed deficits in social skills and behavior problems; b) there was an association between positive practices and the children's social skills and between negative practices and children's behavior problems; c) the frequency of positive and negative practices was equivalent among boys and girls, and d) boys more frequently presented behavior problems while school-aged children more frequently presented social skills deficits. The results indicate that even non-clinical samples may present harmful parenting practices, excess negative practices, and deficits in positive practices. Hence, there is a need for timely interventions to prevent behavior problems among children and maternal depression arising from conflicting interactions in the parenthood sphere.


Las asociaciones de variables sociodemográficas de madres con depresión materna y de sus hijos con problemas comportamentales son ampliamente reconocidas en la literatura. Por otro lado, en muestras típicas existe un vacío de estudios que traten de las asociaciones de esas variables con las prácticas parentales maternas; o sea, en niños de corta edad sin problemas comportamentales y en madres sin indicadores de depresión actual. Considerando lo anterior, el objetivo de este estudio fue verificar las asociaciones entre las variables sociodemográficas de hijos y de las prácticas parentales de sus madres con los indicadores comportamentales de recursos y problemas de los hijos. Se utilizó una muestra de hijos sin problemas comporta-mentales y de madres sin indicadores de depresión actual. Se trata de un estudio cuantitativo, transversal, descriptivo y correlacional. Participaron 46 madres biológicas que vivían con su pareja y sus hijos. Las participantes respondieron al cuestionario sobre variables sociodemográficas y a los instrumentos calibrados sobre comportamientos infantiles, salud mental materna y prácticas educativas. Se identificó que: (a) a pesar de no presentar problemas de salud mental (problemas de comportamiento y depresión materna), las madres evidenciaron un déficit de prácticas positivas y un exceso de prácticas negativas; a su vez, los hijos presentaron déficit de habilidades sociales y hubo quejas comportamentales; (b) se encontró asociación entre las prácticas positivas y las habilidades sociales; también se encontró asociación entre las prácticas negativas y las quejas comportamentales; (c) las prácticas positivas y negativas ocurrieron de manera equivalente entre niños y niñas; y (d) los niños tuvieron más quejas comportamentales; además, los hijos, en edad escolar, tuvieron más déficits de habilidades sociales. Los datos indican que inclusive en muestras no clínicas existen variables de riesgo en lo que se refiere a la parentalidad, a excesos de prácticas negativas y a déficits de prácticas positivas. Lo encontrado sugiere la necesidad de intervenir precozmente, para evitar el surgimiento de problemas de comportamiento infantil y también de la depresión materna, cuando esta proviene de interacciones de conflictos en el ambiente de la parentalidad.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: Evaluar la relación entre las prácticas parentales de alimentación, los conocimientos nutricionales de los padres y los hábitos de alimentación infantil reportados por padres de cuatro instituciones educativas del suroccidente de Colombia. Método: Estudio observacional con diseño transversal correlacional. Se analizaron los datos de 1.162 padres de niñas y niños matriculados en los grados de preescolar hasta tercero de primaria de cuatro instituciones educativas públicas, quienes contestaron cuestionarios de autoinforme. Se realizaron análisis descriptivos e inferenciales. Resultados: La dieta de las niñas y los niños se caracteriza por un consumo frecuente de alimentos ultraprocesados y un consumo de frutas y verduras menor de lo esperado. Se encontraron relaciones entre las prácticas parentales de alimentación responsivas y el consumo de alimentos saludables en los hijos, así como entre las prácticas autoritarias y permisivas con el consumo frecuente de alimentos ultraprocesados. El nivel de conocimiento nutricional de los padres no se relacionó con la dieta de las niñas y los niños; sin embargo, se encontró una relación entre las prácticas parentales responsivas, un bajo nivel de conocimientos nutricionales de los padres y una baja frecuencia de consumo de frutas y verduras en los hijos. Conclusión: La alimentación es un fenómeno complejo, e implica la interacción entre los factores individuales y contextuales; en esta medida, la promoción de hábitos saludables involucra un trabajo conjunto en los múltiples niveles de interacción. Se espera que los resultados de este estudio posibiliten la construcción de intervenciones interdisciplinares oportunas, en poblaciones de bajos y medios ingresos en el territorio observado.


Purpose: To evaluate the relationship between parental feeding practices, parental nutritional knowledge, and child feeding habits reported by parents in four educational institutions in southwestern Colombia. Method: Observational study with correlational cross-sectional design. Data were analysed from 1.162 parents of children enroled in grades from preschool to third grade from four public educational institutions. Parents answered self-report questionnaires. Descriptive and inferential analyses were performed. Results: The children's diet is characterised by frequent consumption of ultra-processed food and a lower consumption of fruits and vegetables. Relationships were found between responsive parenting practices and healthy food consumption in children, as well as between authoritarian and permissive practices with frequent consumption of ultra-processed foods. The level of nutritional knowledge of parents was not related to the children's diet; however, a relationship was found between responsive parenting practices, a low level of nutritional knowledge of parents, and a low frequency of fruit and vegetable consumption in children. Conclusion: Eating is a complex phenomenon and involves the interaction between individual and contextual factors. To this extent, the promotion of healthy habits involves joint work at multiple levels of interaction. The results of this study are expected to allow the construction of timely interdisciplinary interventions in low- and middle-income populations in the observed territory.

INTRODUCTION: Parental cancer is the experience of cancer at an early age in adulthood in people with dependent children, leading to changes in parent-child interaction, family dynamics, the performance of the parental role and socio-economic difficulties. OBJECTIVE: To analyze parents' perspectives who are undergoing cancer treatment to understand the impact this has on their parental role. METHODOLOGY: Qualitative study. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews based on a structured script founded on the Betty Neuman Model. The sample consisted of cancer patients in the treatment phase, with different types of cancer, monitored in a Portuguese cancer hospital, with teenage children aged 14 to 19. Data analysis was carried out using content analysis according to Bardin. The ethical assumptions associated with the study were safeguarded. RESULTS: From the analysis of the 13 interviews carried out, the domain Experience of parental cancer emerged, with two categories "Everything changed in us: the cancer diagnosis" and "Life goes on: repercussions of parental cancer on parent-child interaction" and respective subcategories. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated the implications of the diagnosis of cancer and the repercussions of parental cancer on parent-child interaction. The results will support the design of a nursing intervention program for the dyad experiencing parental cancer.


INTRODUCCIÓN: El cáncer parental comprende la vivencia del cáncer en edades tempranas de la vida adulta, en personas con hijos dependientes, provocando cambios en la interacción padres-hijos, dinámica familiar, desempeño del rol parental y dificultades socioeconómicas. OBJETIVO: Analizar la perspectiva de los padres sometidos a tratamiento contra el cáncer para comprender el impacto en el rol parental. METODOLOGÍA: Estudio cualitativo. La recolección de datos se realizó a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas, a partir de un guión estructurado, basado en el modelo de Betty Neuman. La muestra estuvo compuesta por pacientes oncológicos en fase de tratamiento, con diferentes tipos de cáncer, seguidos en un hospital oncológico portugués, con hijos adolescentes entre 14 y 19 años. El análisis de datos se realizó mediante análisis de contenido según Bardin. Se salvaguardaron los supuestos éticos inherentes a la realización del estudio. RESULTADOS: Del análisis de las 13 entrevistas realizadas surgió el dominio Experimentar el cáncer de los padres, con dos categorías "Todo ha cambiado en nosotros: el diagnóstico del cáncer" y "La vida continúa: repercusiones del cáncer de los padres en la interacción padres-hijos" y sus respectivas subcategorías. CONCLUSIÓN: Este estudio destacó las implicaciones que existen al diagnosticar una enfermedad oncológica y las repercusiones del cáncer de los padres en la interacción entre padres e hijos. Los resultados apoyarán la construcción del diseño de un programa de intervención de enfermería para la díada que experimenta cáncer parental.

INTRODUCCIÓN: Las prácticas de crianza en alimentación y la conducta alimentaria han sido ampliamente estudiadas en niños, sin embargo, es necesario proporcionar información sobre su impacto en adultos. La evidencia sugiere que las prácticas de crianza en alimentación pueden tener un impacto en la conducta alimentarias emocional, descontrolada, restrictiva y desordenada, las cuales están asociadas con el incremento del Índice de masa corporal (IMC), el sobrepeso y la obesidad, mismos que se encuentran como principal factor de riesgo para el desarrollo de DT2. OBJETIVO: analizar través de una revisión sistemática la evidencia existente acerca de la relación entre las prácticas de crianza en alimentación, la conducta alimentaria y el riesgo de diabetes en adultos. METODOLOGÍA: Se realizó una búsqueda de literatura publicada de 2013 a 2023 en las bases de datos Pubmed, Scopus, EBSCOhost, Clarivate Science Citation Index Expanded y SpringerLink. Se identificaron 459 estudios, luego de aplicar los criterios de exclusión, se revisaron 15 estudios en total. RESULTADOS: Las subescalas de las prácticas de crianza en alimentación más empleadas fueron: preocupación, control, presión para comer y restricción. Se encontró asociación entre las prácticas de crianza en alimentación, la conducta alimentaria y el incremento del IMC. CONCLUSIÓN: Se consideran insuficientes las investigaciones que muestran el impacto de las prácticas de crianza en alimentación sobre la conducta alimentaria y si estas a su vez tienen efectos en el riesgo de diabetes en la etapa adulta.


INTRODUCTION: Parenting practices in feeding and eating behavior have been widely studied in children, however, it is necessary to provide information on their impact on adults. The evidence suggests that parenting practices in feeding can have an impact on emotional, uncontrolled, restrictive and disordered eating behavior, which are associated with an increase in BMI, overweight and obesity, which are found as the main factor of risk for the development of T2D. OBJECTIVE: To analyze, through a systematic review, the existing evidence about the relationship between parenting feeding practices, eating behavior and the risk of diabetes in adults. METHODOLOGY: A search of literature published from 2013 to 2023 was carried out in the Pubmed, Scopus, EBSCOhost, Clarivate Science Citation Index Expanded and SpringerLink databases. 459 studies were identified, after applying the exclusion criteria, 15 studies in total were reviewed. RESULTS: The subscales of the most frequently used parenting practices in feeding were: concern, control, pressure to eat and restriction. An association was found between parenting feeding practices, eating behavior and increased BMI. CONCLUSION: Research showing the impact of parenting feeding practices on eating behavior and whether these in turn have effects on the risk of diabetes in adulthood are considered insufficient.

Objetivo: mapear las características de las intervenciones para promover el desarrollo infantil que utilizaron el Modelo Touchpoints. Método: se trata de una revisión de alcance, guiada por las recomendaciones del JBI Reviewer's Manual, realizada en nueve bases de datos, en la literatura gris y en la lista de referencias de los estudios seleccionados. La pregunta de investigación fue "¿cuáles son las características de las intervenciones con padres/cuidadores y niños para promover el desarrollo infantil, desde el embarazo hasta los seis años, con base en el Modelo Touchpoints?". Se utilizó el Rayyan para la selección de los estudios y un guión para la extracción de datos. El análisis se realizó de forma descriptiva. Resultados: se incluyeron doce publicaciones. Las intervenciones fueron heterogéneas; concentradas en el período comprendido entre el embarazo y los tres años de edad; priorizó la difusión del contenido de los Touchpoints según la edad y los aspectos de parentalidad; la mayoría fueron realizadas por enfermeros, en la Atención Primaria de Salud y durante las visitas domiciliarias. Las intervenciones se relacionaron con el desarrollo general, una mayor comprensión del desarrollo y una mayor interacción con el niño. Conclusión: los estudios han demostrado potencial para obtener resultados favorables para el desarrollo infantil y la parentalidad. La variabilidad de las intervenciones dificultó el mapeo de las características más efectivas."


Objective: to map the characteristics of interventions to promote child development that used the Touchpoints Model. Method: this is a scoping review, guided by the recommendations of the JBI Reviewer's Manual, carried out in nine databases, in the gray literature and in the reference list of the selected studies. The research question was "what are the characteristics of interventions with parents/caregivers and children to promote child development, from pregnancy to six years of age, based on the Touchpoints Model?". Rayyan was used for the selection of studies and a standard form for data extraction. The analysis was carried out descriptively. Results: twelve publications were included in the review. Interventions were heterogeneous; concentrated in the period from pregnancy to three years of age; prioritized the dissemination of Touchpoints content according to age, and parenting aspects; most were performed by nurses, in Primary Health Care, and during home visits. Interventions were related to overall development, greater understanding of development and greater interaction with the child. Conclusion: studies have shown potential for favorable outcomes for child development and parenting. The variability of interventions made it difficult to map more effective characteristics.

A questão de pesquisa foi: quais são as características das intervenções com pais/cuidadores e crianças para promoção do desenvolvimento infantil, da gestação até os seis anos de idade, baseadas no Modelo Touchpoints? Foram utilizados o Rayyan, para a seleção dos estudos, e um roteiro, para a extração de dados. A análise foi realizada de forma descritiva. Resultados: foram incluídas doze publicações. As intervenções eram heterogêneas; concentradas no período da gestação até os três anos de idade; priorizaram a disseminação de conteúdo dos Touchpoints segundo idade e aspectos de parentalidade; a maioria foi realizada por enfermeiros na Atenção Primária à Saúde e na visita domiciliar. As intervenções foram relacionadas ao desenvolvimento global, à maior compreensão sobre o desenvolvimento e à maior interação com a criança. Conclusão: os estudos evidenciaram potencial para resultados favoráveis ao desenvolvimento infantil e à parentalidade. A variabilidade das intervenções dificultou mapear características mais efetivas.

Resumen El proceso de adopción comprende cambios importantes en las familias adoptivas, pues implica una reestructuración y adaptación a una nueva organización del sistema familiar. Durante este proceso los padres elaboran expectativas y creencias respecto a cómo comportarse frente a los cambios y adaptarse a sus hijos, desde donde dirigen sus prácticas de crianza. La percepción del tiempo que tenga cada persona posee un papel en cómo se desarrolla la identidad tanto individual como familiar, pues las experiencias pasadas, vivencias actuales y expectativas del futuro influyen en sus acciones. Por lo tanto, es posible decir que los padres adoptivos elaboran teorías subjetivas sobre este proceso y especialmente en relación con el tiempo de espera de la adopción, explicaciones que podrían incidir en la forma en que enfrentan este nuevo desafío y se preparan para la parentalidad. El presente estudio tuvo por objetivo comprender las teorías subjetivas sobre el tiempo de espera y las experiencias de la parentalidad adoptiva. Participaron diez madres y padres adoptivos mediante entrevistas episódicas individuales. Se analizaron los datos obtenidos utilizando técnicas de tres procedimientos de análisis: de contenido basado en la Teoría Fundamentada, específico para las teorías subjetivas y de la perspectiva temporal. De los hallazgos se destacan teorías subjetivas de contenido emocional ansioso durante el proceso de adopción. Además, contar con una red de apoyo, compartir experiencias con otros padres y el uso de estrategias personales son las principales estrategias de adaptación de los padres adoptivos que les permiten sobrellevar los sentimientos negativos durante el proceso.


Abstract The adoption process includes important changes in adoptive families, since it implies a restructuring and adaptation to a new organization of the family system. The path to parenthood entails changes at levels of mental, physical and social health, which in the case of adoptive parents, the challenges are greater or are altered in some way due to the unique characteristics of their experiences and the obstacles they face. To these challenges are added the usual stressors that parents face, such as changes in roles, increased stress, lack of sleep, alterations in the relationship and intimacy of the couple and difficulties that arise in raising their children. On the other hand, time is configured as a concrete dimension through which life develop. The relationship between objective time and subjective or psychological time will shape the perception of time that each person has, which has a role in how both individual and family identity develops. This is because people´s actions are influenced by past experiences, current experiences and future expectations. One of the areas of the adoption process that has not yet been deepened is the waiting time, the period of time between obtaining the suitability and assignment of the minor to the adoptive family, which can be considered important for the future family depending on how adoptive parents face it, this because the way in which the adoption process is experienced impacts both the path to parenthood and post-adoption adaptation. In fact, it confirms that waiting time influences the psychological well-being of adoptive parents. Therefore, it is possible to say that adoptive parents elaborate subjective theories about this process and especially in relation to the waiting time for adoption, explanations that could influence the way in which they face this new challenge and prepare for parenthood. The present study aimed to understand subjective theories about the waiting time and experiences of adoptive parenting. Ten adoptive mothers and fathers participated in this study through individual episodic interviews. The data obtained were analyzed using techniques of three analysis procedures: content based on Grounded Theory, specific for subjective theories and time perspective.

Considerando as transformações na maternidade ao longo da história e a atual crise identitária na relação da mulher com a maternidade, ou seja, o conflito entre os ideais de maternidade relacionados à figura da mulher/mãe e as demandas contemporâneas de realização individual no trabalho, realizou-se este estudo transversal, exploratório-descritivo de abordagem qualitativa, cujo objetivo consistia em descrever e analisar, a partir da psicanálise de casal e família, a experiência de mães que abandonaram da carreira profissional para a dedicação exclusiva à maternidade. Foram entrevistadas oito mulheres de classe média, entre 30 e 50 anos, que eram mães e abandonaram suas carreiras profissionais para se dedicarem à maternidade. As entrevistas que compuseram os resultados foram transcritas e as análises de conteúdo temática apontaram as múltiplas exigências, tanto sociais, quanto relacionadas à herança psíquica, que trazem implicações para a construção identitária dessas mulheres. Concluímos que um processo de elaboração dessa herança exige uma rede vincular de apoio e pressupõe a desidealização da maternidade, entendendo-a como plural, tanto no sentido de ser múltipla e diversa, quanto no sentido de ser uma construção vincular.


Noticing the history transformations in motherhood, and the current identity crisis in the woman's relationship between femininity and maternity, that is, the conflict between the ideas of motherhood related to the figure of the woman/mother and the contemporary demands of individual realization at work, this exploratory-descriptive, cross-sectional, study of a qualitative approach was carried out, whose objective was to describe and analyze, from the perspective of psychoanalysis of the linking configurations, the experience of mothers who abandoned the professional career for the exclusive dedication to motherhood. Eight middle-class women, aged between 30 and 50, who were mothers and abandoned their professional careers to dedicate themselves to motherhood-retirar, were interviewed. The interviews that composed the results were transcribed, and thematic content analyses pointed out the multiple demands, both social and related to psychic heritage, which have implications for the identity construction of these women. We conclude that an elaboration of this heritage requires a link network of support and presupposes the non-idealization of motherhood, understanding it as plural, both in the sense of being multiple and diverse, and in the sense of being a bonding construction.

Fueron entrevistadas ocho mujeres de clase media, entre 30 y 50 años. que eran madres y abandonaron sus carreras profesionales para dedicarse a la maternidad-retirar. Las entrevistas que compusieron los resultados fueron transcritas y los análisis de contenido temático señalaron las múltiples exigencias, tanto sociales, como relacionadas a la herencia psíquica, que traen implicaciones para la construcción identitaria de esas mujeres. Concluimos que un proceso de elaboración de esa herencia exige una red vincular de apoyo y presupone la desidealización de la maternidad, entendiéndola como plural, tanto en el sentido de ser múltiple y diversa, como en el sentido de ser una construcción vincular.

Abstract Objective: To investigate the association between emotional and behavioral difficulties in schoolchildren and maternal educational practices. Methods: Participants and Setting: 631 mother-child pairs were evaluated in a poor urban district in Recife, northeastern Brazil. Cross-sectional study carried out between 2013 and 2014. It integrates a prospective cohort study designed to investigate the consequences of intimate partner violence that occurred during pregnancy, postpartum, and seven years after birth for the physical and mental health of women and their children. Maternal educational practices were assessed using the Parent-Child Conflict Tactics Scale (CTSPC - mother-child version) and the child's behavioral and emotional disorders through the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) mother-version. The association was estimated through crude and adjusted prevalence ratios, using Poisson regression considering the 95% confidence interval. Results: The prevalence of violent maternal educational practices was 91.8% (572/631) being 89.7% (566/631) of psychological aggression and 75.6% of physical aggression, subdivided into corporal punishment (73.5%), physical maltreatment (35.8%) and severe physical maltreatment (1.7%). Corporal punishment (Adjusted PR 1.5; CI 95%: 1.1-2.1; p = 0.010) and severe physical maltreatment (Adjusted PR 1.9; CI 95%: 1.3-2.8; p = 0.002) were associated with emotional and behavioral difficulties in schoolchildren. Conclusion: The high prevalence of violent maternal educational practices, especially corporal punishment and severe physical maltreatment is associated with emotional and behavioral disorders in children. Therefore, it is necessary to interventions that promote parental support and effective use of non-violent discipline in conducting the educational process to establish healthier family relationships and to prevent/mitigate the impact of emotional and behavioral problems in children. © 2022 Sociedade Brasileira de Pediatria.
