ABSTRACT

Objective Based on the theory of Service Quality to develop a scale for measuring personal digital assistant satisfaction by nurses and to detect the reliability and validity of this scale. Methods Through the literature research, cross-sectional study and present satisfaction evaluation tool for using personal digital assistant by nurse to build the item pool. The items were selected by 15 experts consultation and the pilot survey of 666 nurses. Results The satisfaction evaluation tool for using personal digital assistant by nurse scale consisted of 41 items;the exploratory factor analysis identified 8 principal factors and explained for 65.22%. Pearson correlation coefficient between each dimension was 0.213-0.684(P<0.01). Pearson correlation coefficient between each dimension and total scale was 0.574-0.798(P<0.01). The Cronbach α coefficient of the scale was 0.928 and test-retest reliability was 0.934. Conclusions The satisfaction evaluation tool for using personal digital assistant by nurse scale has good validity and reliability. It can be used as a tool to measure the satisfaction for using personal digital assistant by nurse.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effect of applying personal digital assistant(PDA)in documenting medical orders and monitoring vital signs.Method There was significant diffenence the between two groups in dicumenting, inedical orders, monitoring vital signs(P<0.05).Result BPDA needed significantly shorter time for documenting medical orders and monitoring vital signs than the traditional method(P<0.05).Conclusions PDA may shorten the time for documenting medical orders and monitoring vital signs. It reduces the repetition of nursing routines, optimizes the work flow sheet so that nurses have more time for patients and the quality of nursing is improved.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This study focuses on the development of a systematic and efficient information system for effective management of patient data in home hospice care. It is easily implemented in the hospice environment and is based on wired and wireless communications along with mobile computing technology. METHODS: The design of this portable home hospice information system was based on an analysis of the services provided by visiting nurses and on the opinions of users, in accordance with the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Guidelines for Cancer Patient Management Program 2005. The system has eight main menus, each of which performs a different function. The system includes the home hospice information system (HHIS), a compact .NET framework, and the health center information system (HCIS). RESULTS: A trial was conducted with three experienced visiting nurses, who each used a personal digital assistant (PDA) loaded with the new system to add patient information. The functions include registering a new patient, performing appropriate nursing service according to established guidelines, based on the patient's condition, and searching data records. The system resulted in a saving of 8.5 minutes in nursing data recording time. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study are expected to help field workers in community nursing to decrease the nursing data recording time by using PDAs.

ABSTRACT

Rapid integration of information technology into health care systems has included the use of highly portable systems-in particular, personal digital assistants (PDAs). With their large built-in memories, fast processors, wireless connectivity, multimedia capacity, and large library of applications, PDAs have been widely adopted by physicians and nurses for patient tracking, disease management, medical references and drug information, enhancing a quality of health care. Many health-related PDA applications are available to both dietetics professionals and clients. Dietetics professionals can effectively use PDAs for client tracking and support, accessing to hospital database or information, and providing better self-monitoring tools to clients. Internship programs for dietetics professionals should include training in the use of PDAs and their dietetics applications, so that new practitioners can stay abreast of this rapidly evolving technology. Several considerations to keep in mind in selecting a PDA and its applications are discussed.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to design a portable ECG monitoring system, which integrates up-to-date PDA and RF communication technology, and to acquire the subject's biomedical signal without any constraint. METHODS: The developed system is composed of a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter has a MCU (microcontroller), three-axial acceleration sensor, ECG amplifier and Zigbee communication controller. It has two types of transmission mode, which are total signal transmission mode and HR (heart rate)/SC (step count) transmission mode. The receiver has a MCU, Serial Communication IC, and Zigbee communication controller. It forwards the received data to PDA, where the data can be stored and displayed. RESULTS: In total signal transmission mode, it can send data 60 packets per second whose transmission speed corresponds to 300 ECG samples and 60 acceleration samples. In HR/SC transmission mode, it can calculate heart rate from ECG data with 216 samples per second and step count from acceleration data and send a packet every cardiac cycle. CONCLUSION: Using this device, a new method of remote monitoring both vital sign and activity is realized. A PDA-based wireless ECG system enables patients to be monitored during their daily living, without any constraints. Also, this method will reduce medical costs in the aged society.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: We developed a Cocoon framework-based device independent electrocardiogram(ECG) Reporting System in order to support such various web devices as desktop Personal Computer(PC), Personal Digital Assistants(PDA) and SmartPhone. METHODS: ECG Reporting System, built in the Cocoon framework, consists of modules of ECG Report Module and ECG Image Module. Two modules publish the applied ECG Report to each different templates according to the requesting device. The method of framework-based development in this paper features a reduction of development costs and the robust stability of system. RESULTS: The medical staff may require patient ECG information in ubiquitous healthcare environment, ECG Reporting System supports their correct judgment and expeditious response by servicing ECG report of the patient according to the requesting device. CONCLUSION: The proposed system and concept in this paper may be a good solution for developing the point of care service system supporting various mobile devices.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to self-management asthma including symptom, medication, and to prevent the exacerbation of the condition using the Personal Asthma Management System(PAMS) which was developed based on Personal digital Assistant(PDA). METHODS: A development tool of the PAMS was EVC(Microsoft Embadded Visual C++). The system contents referred to workshop report of the Global Initiative for Asthma, on-line lecture of the Korean Society of allergology and Korea Asthma allergy Foundation, asthma-related web-sites. RESULTS: The PAMS was implemented with four main menus: personal information, symptom, medication management, and self care. The patients input their daily condition, and this data will be used in the successful prevention and management of asthma exacerbation. This real-time nature of PAMS is its primary advantage over other retrospective computing system for reducing the effects of forgetting, so this information will be useful in classifying of asthma severity. CONCLUSION: The PAMS can be contributed to aid self-management of asthma and effective treatment by attending physician.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To develop a PDA based hand-held system, which assists diabetic patients to self manage his/her blood glucose level, diet, and other related variables in a systematic way. METHODS: Personal diabetes management system(PDMS) was developed in the integrated environment of Visual Studio.net 2003. The system was configured based on the documentation resulted from extensive review on the current S/W products and internet homepages for the diabetes. RESULTS: PDMS was implemented with four main menus to manage personal information, diet, exercise, and blood glucose. It was designed to provide the quantitative health indices such as body mass index and diabetes index based on the personal physical information, pedigree, and living habits. It addition, it is capable of predicting changes of the body weight, which may remind patients of the importance of the disease management. CONCLUSION: A PDA based hand-held self management system was developed for the diabetes. The present system can be used as a mobile device within the tele-healthcare system integrated with medical center thru the internet.
