ABSTRACT

Enlarged facial pores remain a common skin concern. Its occurrence is mainly associated with increased sebum production, skin aging (skin laxity and decreased skin elasticity) , increased hair follicle size and other factors, and current treatments for enlarged facial pores mainly target these factors. This review retrospectively summarizes current common treatments, including oral antiandrogens, topical retinoids, chemical peels, lasers, radiofrequency and focused ultrasound. The increasing development of photoelectric devices offers newer and more reliable choices.

ABSTRACT

El presente artículo tiene como objetivo central evidenciar la interesante relación que se establece entre la función celular y el número de poros nucleares, relación que modula el activo intercambio nucleo-citoplasmatico en distintas etapas del ciclo celular de la estirpe HC11.

The main objective of this article is related to the study of different existing relationships between cellular function and the number of nuclear pores in order to explain the amount of nuclear-cytoplasmatic exchange through HC11 cell cycle stages.

ABSTRACT

Liolaemus belongs to the Eulaemus subgenus, that is included in the Liolaemus montanus group or section, and is distributed in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Peru. The species members of this clade inhabit arid and high altitude environments, usually above 2 800m, and have a strong tendency to herbivory and a viviparous reproductive type. In a herpetological expedition to the Salta Province highlands, Argentina, in April 2012, we collected individuals of this new species for their description. The specimens were collected with loop, slaughtered by anesthesia and deposited in the herpetological collection of Fundación Miguel Lillo in Tucumán (FML). To characterize this new taxon, we analyzed 144 external morphological characters, referring primarily to lepidosis, color pattern, and body proportions, comparing with data from 66 constituent species of the L. montanus group (45 taxa from collection specimens and 21 from literature). Description of the colors in life was made in the field and based on photographs taken during the capture. The species described in this work inhabits a very narrow mountain range area in Salta Province (Argentina), and the Atacama Region (Chile), always above the 3 600m. This new taxon shows characteristics of lepidosis and color patterns clearly different from the other species members of the L. montanus group: the maximum snout-vent length is 72.9mm; shows 74-96 scales around midbody, 89-104 dorsal scales between the occiput and hind limbs, 92-109 ventrals, precloacal pores are evident in both, males and females, and supernumerary pores in males. Also, the presence of postcloacal pores stands out as unique among all Liolaemus. This is a new character, not only for the genus, but also to all Reptilia, becoming a morphological discovery of great importance, since in reptiles only precloacal and femoral pores are known. Based on our field observations, this new Liolaemus is related to rocky environments, which are used as refuge by this omnivorous species, and when handled, very aggressive males.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Enlarged skin pore is a type of serious cosmetic defect for many women. However, the mechanisms underlying the skin pores remain unclear. Currently, several treatment methods are in practice for enlarged skin pores and the most common among those are topical alpha-hydroxy acid, retinoid and chemical peel. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the patients' knowledge, awareness and method of the treatment of the skin pores. METHODS: Analysis of the interview results and questionnaire responses from 256 individuals, who did not having any history of medical disease. RESULTS: The number of patients who think that they have enlarged skin pores was 225 (88%). The most common site was around the nose (48%). Enlarged skin pores are thought to be caused by several factors; seborrhea (38%), after removal of sebum (35%) and acne (30%), and common dissatisfactions with enlarged skin pores were visible blackheads and older looks. Patients receive skin care for enlarged skin pores via various remedies, but only 11% actually received dermatologic procedure. CONCLUSION: High proportion of the population has great concerns regarding their enlarged skin pores, but lack proper treatment. Enlarged skin pores lead to one's dissatisfaction, such as blackheads and older look. Thus, we should investigate the insight on skin pores and offer beneficial treatments for concerned patients.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo evaluate the effects of intense pulse light (OPT) on the facial pore widening of different parts.MethodsThirty six women with widened pores were enrolled, and treated by OPT for 6 times. All the cases were taken photos before and after treatment. The pores of cheek, nasal ala and nasal tip were graded by using the photographic scale, and the improvement after treatment compared with that before.ResultsThe cheek, nasal ala and nasal tip pores evidently diminished (P<0.01).The improvement rate of cheek pores was higher than that of nasal ala and nasal tip (P<0.01),but that between the latter two was not different (P>0.05)).ConclusionsThe cheek pore widening diminishes more significantly than nasal ala and nasal tip treated with OPT.

ABSTRACT

The work was performed in agricultural properties, located on the hydrographic sub-basins of Santa Cruz and Água Limpa streams, belonging to the Rio Grande basin, Lavras, MG, with the aim of evaluating and relating soil physical attributes with pastures productivity. No differences were observed among bulk density, total porosity, micro and macro-porosity values in soils under different pastures, as well as under different soil samples depths. The animal trampling on these pastures, considering the amount of animals observed in the area and the continuous system of pasture management, did not translate to higher values of bulk density, at 0-10cm depth, and at the subsurface. Through canonical correlation one verified that pastures productivity showed association in its sensibility related to soils physical attributes.

ABSTRACT

Lysis of erythrocytes offers an unique opportunity to probe the fine structure of the bilayer as a function of its state of energization. Critical monitoring of the volumes, ion fluxes and related measures in erythrocytes exposed to a variety of milieu and treatments showed that one can critically distinguish the nature of the prelytic perturbations and the proximate forces actually responsible for the disruption of the membranes among surface charge density, elastic energy etc.
