ABSTRACT

With the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic across the world, numerous variants have emerged. As a high-risk group for COVID-19, the elderly are prone to acute kidney injury(AKI), with atypical clinical features and high proportions of patients with critical illness. Its pathogenesis mainly includes direct damage to the kidney via the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)pathway, the extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer(CD147)pathway, and age-related renal dysfunction, inflammatory aging, immune aging and other non-specific mechanisms, which significantly increase the risk of adverse prognosis. Therefore, the establishment of an early warning system for AKI, increasing vaccination coverage, nutritional support, treatment of primary diseases, extracorporeal supportive therapy and other control measures are particularly important to prognosis improvement. This review summarized the pathogenesis, early prevention and treatment of AKI in elderly patients with COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

In economically developing countries, the global burden of cancer persists to increase chiefly because of the aging and growth of the world population along with an increasing implementation of cancercausing behaviors, particularly smoking, physical inactivity and fast food. Cancer group accounts approximately 13% of all deaths each year with the most common being: lung cancer (1.3 million deaths), stomach cancer (803,000 deaths), colorectal cancer (639,000 deaths), liver cancer (610,000 deaths), and breast cancer (519,000 deaths). In India, the rate of oral, oesophagus and cervical cancers are some highest in the world according to 2011 Statistics. Various treatments are used to cure some cancers, but the battle against this disease is ongoing. The source of biologically active compounds originally isolated from plants. These natural compounds can acts as anti cancerous agents. Hence, the current study focuses on the use of 15 different natural products in the treatment of cancer.

ABSTRACT

Aim To study the preventive and therapeutic effects of Buyang Huanwu Decoction(BYHWD)on denervated tibial muscle atrophy of rats. Methods After 60 Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to Common Peroneal nerve crush model of 5 mm injury, they were randomly divided into 6 groups for daily intragastric administration of drugs:BYHWD high-dose, medium-dose, low-dose groups, mecobalamin group(positive control), model group, sham operation group. The drug administration lasted for 18 days.18 days after operation, slice, masson staining and analysis morphology were performed. The wet weight ratio and section area of tibial muscle were also measured. Results Tibial muscle section area of sham operation group was large, morphous was regular, while that of model group significantly diminished, structure was chaotic, and connective tissue hyperplasia was more obvious;Tibial muscle section area of BYHWD group and mecobalamin group was fairly diminished, morphous was fairly regular, and connective tissue hyperplasia was not obvious.Compared with model group, the section area of BYHWD group all increased significantly(P <0.01)in a dose-dependent manner.Compared with mecobalamin group, the cross section area of BYHWD high-dose group was significantly larger(P <0.05).Compared with model group, the wet weight ratio of BYHWD high-dose and medium-dose group all increased significantly(P <0.01 or P <0.05)in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion BYHWD has a significant effect of prevention and therapy on denervated tibial muscle atrophy of rats.
