ABSTRACT

To know the current status of family health and negative psychology of primary and secondary school students, and to explore the correlation between them during the prevention and control of COVID-19. From January 15 to 30, in 2022, a total of 19 343 urban and rural primary and secondary school students in X city were selected. The short form of the family health scale, center for epidemiologica survey-depression scale and student burnout inventory for junior middle school students were used to conduct a cross-sectional survey. The Pearson correlation was used to analyze the relationship between the family health and negative psychology. The family health of primary and secondary school students is at the medium level or above, and more than half of students may/must be depressed. There are significant differences in study burnout in different learning stages and epidemic management in different places of residence. It is recommended that family members and schools staff should give more psychological and social support to primary and secondary school students to reduce the negative impact of COVID-19 on them.

ABSTRACT

[ABSTRACT]OBJECTIVETo investigate the prevalence of allergic rhinitis in Beijing primary and middle school students.METHODSStratified cluster sampling was conducted with the school as a unit. The investigated subjects included the 7 to 15 years old students from the primary and middle school in Beijing Dongcheng District and Changping District. The epidemiological investigation was carried out using the designed allergic rhinitis questionnaire. Allergen skin prick test was performed in students randomly selected from those who participated the questionnaire survey. The results were statistically analyzed.RESULTS1. The self-reported prevalence of allergic rhinitis was 49.68% in Beijing primary and middle school students. 2. Self-reported prevalence increased with age going up. 3. City center self-reported prevalence was higher than that in suburb areas. 4. The confirmed prevalence of allergic rhinitis in Beijing primary and middle school students was 21.09%, in which, the male prevalence rate was 24.83% and the female prevalence rate was 14.11%. 5. The 5.14% of the students with allergic rhinitis were combined with asthma.CONCLUSIONThe self-reported and confirmed prevalence of allergic rhinitis in Beijing primary and middle school students was 49.68% and 21.09% respectively.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the outcome of a health education program on sedentary behavior among primary and secondary school children through Transtheoretical Model. Methods Five primary schools and four middle schools were selected and students from grade 3 to 5 in primary schools and grade 1 to 2 in middle schools were selected to take part in the program, as control and intervention groups respectively. Corresponding intervention measures were provided to the intervention group, with phase, process and level of changing on sedentary behavior measured for both groups during the follow-up period. Comparison to the above items on the two groups was measured statistically. Results Behavior among the intervention group was gradually changed regarding: phase contemplation, preparation and maintenance, with the proportions in phase action and maintenance higher than the control group. After carrying out of intervention programs, the sedentary time on weekdays between the two groups did not show significant differences. However, the sedentary time on weekends of intervention group was (2.53 ± 1.62) hours, significantly lower than the hours from the baseline survey (2.84 ± 1.82) and the control group (2.78 ± 1.72) respectively.During the follow-up period, the average score of intervention group in the changing process was (2.98 ± 0.77), higher than the control group (2.80 ± 0.81 ). At the same time, the average score of intervention group in the process of changing, decisional balance (pros) and self-efficacy were 2.98 ±0.77, 3.06 ± 0.75 and 3.13 ± 0.72, respectively, all higher than data from the baseline survey. In the control group, the process of changing and the average score on self-efficacy had improved. Conclusion The corresponding intervention program seemed to have played a significant role among the school-aged children on their sedentary behavior during the weekend but no significant difference was found in the weekdays.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the breakfast behaviors and nutritional quality among primary and secondary students, and to provide scientific evidence for developing intervention strategies.Method Random three-stage clustering sampling method was employed in the study.A questionnaire survey was conducted among 9194 primary and secondary students aged 6-17y,from seven cities in China. Results The rates of primary and secondary students having breakfast everyday were 97.0%,92.4%,and 93.4%,Most of the students had their breakfast within 30 min after getting up,the rates being 75.4%,74.7%,and 68.6% respectively.Mothers primarily cook breakfast for the students, the rates being 53.1%,49.9%,and 49.7% respectively. In most cases, they had breakfast at home, the rates being 71.8%,67.0%,and 63.8% respectively. The rates of students having poor quality breakfast were above 80%.Conclusion Primary and secondary students are one of the focal target people for preventing unhealthy dietary behaviors due to shortcomings of eating breakfast. It is necessary to improve the nutritional quality of breakfast for better health of students.
