ABSTRACT

Background: Irrigation is a crucial aspect of root canal treatment, and it is imperative to employ chelating agents to eliminate the smear layer during biomechanical preparation. They in turn react with mineral content of dentin, leading to decreased strength and increased susceptibility to fracture. Aims: This study aimed to assess and compare mineral loss and microhardness from primary root canal dentin following the usage of different irrigating solutions and determine the least detrimental irrigant among the tested solutions. Materials and Methods: Sixty-six primary anterior teeth were divided into three groups with 22 in each– Group I: 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) Group II: 0.2% Nano chitosan Group III: Pomegranate extract. The decoronated teeth were split longitudinally. Half of it was directly subjected to Vickers test, and the other half was immersed in a magnetic stirrer bath containing test solution to record the mineral loss from solution. Postmicrohardness values were recorded on the specimen and compared with initial values. Statistical Analysis Used: Statistical analysis was done using SPSS software (Version 20, SPSS, IBM, Armonk, NY, U. S. A). Results: Descriptive statistics were calculated, and the groups were compared using analysis of variance test and post hoc Tukey test. Pomegranate extract showed least effect on mineral content and microhardness compared to 17% EDTA and 0.2% nano chitosan. P ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Conclusion: Pomegranate aril extract showed better results with selected parameters.

ABSTRACT

Root development in plants is affected by light and phytohormones. Different ranges of light wavelength influence rootpatterning in a particular manner. Red and white light promote overall root development, whereas blue light has bothpositive as well as negative role in these processes. Light-mediated root development primarily occurs through modulationof synthesis, signaling and transport of the phytohormone auxin. Auxin has been shown to play a critical role in rootdevelopment. It is being well-understood that components of light and auxin signaling cross-talk with each other. However, the signaling network that can modulate the root development is an intense area of research. Currently, limited informationis available about the interaction of these two signaling pathways. This review not only summarizes the current findings onhow different quality and quantity of light affect various aspects of root development but also present the role of auxin inthese developmental aspects starting from lower to higher plants.

ABSTRACT

Length of primary root of seedlings is used as seed vigor test of Poaceae. However, besides primary root, there is a variable number of seminal roots, which could have been used. The objective of this work was to evaluate seminal root of corn seedlings as indicative of seed vigor of corn seeds harvested in different seasons and submitted to different threshing methods. To obtain lots with different qualities, UFV-M100 variety corn seeds were harvested in different seasons (experiment 1) and submitted to different threshing methods (experiment 2). In experiment 1, seeds were harvest in four seasons: when they reached water content of 25%, 10, 20 and 30 days later. In experiment 2, seed were harvested with water content of 25% and submitted to manual threshing, in manual stationary threshing and in stationary threshing. In experiment 1, mass of dry seminal roots of seedlings was reduced as harvest was delayed and they were positively correlated with emergency test in sand. In experiment 2, methods of threshing did not influence root traits and there was no correlation between them and emergence in sand. It is concluded that mass of dry seminal roots can differentiate vigor of lots harvested in different seasons, but no root trait was efficient to differentiate lots of seeds with mechanical damage variations.

ABSTRACT

The vast majority of diseases of the dental pulp & the periradicular tissues are associated with micro-organisms. A thorough understanding of these organisms & their relationship to clinical symptoms is necessary to formulate a sound approach to deciduous root canal therapy. This review article intends to highlight the microflora of infected deciduous root canal.
