ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To understand the prevalence of overweight and obesity in the professional population taking physical examination in Xi’an city so as to analyze the relationship of overweight and obesity with the unhealthy lifestyle and provide scientific evidence for the formulation of obesity management strategies. 【Methods】 A total of 10 616 professional subjects taking health examination were included in the study. Data concerning smoking, drinking, diet, sleep and night shift were collected through questionnaires; the subjects’ height and weight were measured and body mass index (BMI) was calculated. 【Results】 We recruited a total of 10 616 subjects in this study, of whom 8 320 (78.8%) were males and 2 296 (21.1%) were females. The total overweight rate in the study population was 40.8%, with 46.6% for males and 19.6% for females. The total obesity rate was 14.3%, among which 16.8% was for males and 5.0% for females. The overweight rate and obesity rate of males were both significantly higher than those of females (P<0.05). There was a linear correlation of BMI with smoking, drinking, eating habits (vegetarianism, sweet and meat intake), sleeping time, and night shift frequency (P<0.05). There was a grade correlation between exercise frequency and BMI. BMI increased with the increase of exercise frequency (P=0.017). The results of multiple Logistic regression analysis on the influence of different factors on overweight/obesity showed that male, age and meat preference were independent risk factors for overweight, while vegetarianism was the protective factor for overweight. Male, age, smoking, meat preference, and night shift ≥2 times/week were independent risk factors for obesity, while vegetarianism and exercise≥3 times/week were the protective factors. 【Conclusion】 The overweight/obesity rate of males is higher than that of female in Xi’an city. Unhealthy lifestyle such as smoking, meat preference and night shift ≥2 times/week are independent risk factors for obesity, while vegetarian diet and regular exercise habits are conducive to weight management.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the relationships of alcohol consumption to the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its re‐lated components in Yichang professional population and provide decision making basis for lifestyle intervention to MS crowd in the city .Methods We examined baseline data from 3 640 participants (2 285 men and 1 355 women) aged 20 to 70 years who under‐went a careful drinking habits survey ,then physical examination and blood chemical examination .They were divided into three groups by average ethanol intake [non ,occasional (0 .05) .Conclusion Even moderate drinking has a significant effect to BMI ,DBP ,TG ,LDL C ,UA ,but not obvious to CRP ,GLU ,TCH ,HDL C .Excessive alcohol consumption has a very bad effect on BMI ,DBP ,SBP ,GLU ,TCH ,TG , HDL C ,LDL C ,UA .Both the prevalence of MS and the abnormal rate of its related components are proportional to the alcohol in‐take .Although moderate drinking could lower SBP and GLU ,but can not reduce the incidence of MS .

ABSTRACT

Objective To Investigation of serun lipid levels of professional population in Qingpu District. Methods The serun levels of total cholesterol (TC) , triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were measured in 9 846 professional individuals. Results The prevalence of abnormal serum lipid levels of 9 846 professional individuals was 20.53%. It was 31.97% among male group, 7.86% among female group(P < 0.01). Conclusion The prevalence of abnormal serum lipid level among the professional population in Qingpu, Shanghai was rather high. The prevalence of abnormal serum lipid levels a-mong men was higher than women.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the characteristics of lipid level classification and phenotyping of Beijing professional populations. Method 4 033 cases (M/F=2 835/1 198, aged 40~91) were enrolled in the study. Lipid levels were classified according to the "Recommended guidelines for prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia" of China (1997) and NCEP ATPⅢ(2001) of US. Results High prevalence of lipid abnormality was found in Beijing populations, only 1/3 cases had desirable cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride (TG) level in the groups with age above 50, and more than half of the subjects had high TC levels at this age, the occurrence of high TG was much less than high TC. Hyperlipoproteinemia typeⅡa was 2~3 times more than type Ⅳ.Decreased high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) was found in 20% male subjects, but only 5% in females. The prevalence of high level HDL-C was found in 25%~39% of female groups, and 10%~14% in male groups. High HDL-C was usually associated in cases with high TC, but low HDL-C was usually seen in high TG cases. Conclusion The results showed that the prevalence of lipid abnormality was as high as 2/3 of the studied subjects above age 50, it means that the cardiovascular disease risk is high in this population, Lipid modification may be beneficial to primary prevention of coronary artery disease.
