ABSTRACT

In order to investigate the genetic difference on medicinal components of Scutellaria baicalensis from different provenances on the genetic difference, the S. baicalensis provenance tests were arranged by randomized block design.Excavating the crude drugs that have been growing for three years, with the same drying process, the content of baicalin, baicalein, wogonoside, wogonin and laminarin A in S. baicalensis were detected by HPLC, and then the data were analyzed. The results indicated that the content of baicalin in different provenances of S. baicalensis was significantly different (<0.05), while the variation of baicalein reached extremely significant level (<0.01). Cluster analysis showed that if the distance was divided by 5.0, the provenances in Chengde, Hebei province were divided into two independent populations, while the other two populations had large geographic spans. The results show that the significant geographical variations exist in the content of medicinal components in S. baicalensis. The study laid a theoretical foundation of provenance selection of S. baicalensis.

ABSTRACT

The study involved four three-year-old provenances of Schizolobium parahyba var. amazonicum planted in the municipality of Colares-Pará, following an experimental design of randomized blocks with five replications. The studied characteristics were: survival, plant height, diameter at 1.30 m from the ground (DAP), height and diameter of the tree crown, percentage of attacked plants and type of bark. Differences among origins for the survival and growth in height of plant and DAP had been found, however, no differences were found for crown height characteristics, crown diameter, percentage plants of attacked plants and bark type. The provenance with the highest survival was Belterra. For plant growth in height and DAP, the provenances Belterra, Ji-Paraná and Alta Floresta were statistically similar, differing from Brasiléia that presented the lowest development. The provenances Belterra, Alta Floresta and Ji-Paraná can be recommended for reforestation programs and agroforestry systems for this region. The Spearman correlation coefficient indicated a strong association among the production variables and the latitude, indicating that the provenances from lower latitudes tend to have a higher development. However, due to this study had involved only a small sample inside of the ample area of distribution of the species, it is advisable to extend the prospection and collecting activities for better explore the variability in the program of genetic improvement of the species.

ABSTRACT

Objective Effect of provenance on seed biological characteristics and seedling growth in Glycyrrhiza uralensis was studied to indicate the important role of provenance in standardization production of traditional Chinese medicinal materials. Methods Indexes such as 1 000-seed weight, water content, seed capsule penetration, germination percentage, and germination potency of the seeds from various resources were determined by general ways.Growth indexes of young seedling and one-year seedling were determined. Results Between Shanghaimiao provenance and Bayinwusu provenance,1 000-seed weight of G.uralensis in Shanghaimiao was bigger, which was 12.3 mg for the former and 11.7 mg for the latter;water penetration of seed capsule was stronger in Bayinwusu and conductance rate was twice as much as it in Shanghaimiao.Shanghaimiao seed bearing storage and seed vigor were stronger and hard seed rate was higher.Germination percentage and germination potency of untreated seed in Bayinwusu was higher than that of Shanghaimiao, but lower after treatment.Germination percentage and germination potency of smaller seeds was the highest between the two different provenances in both the untreated and treated seeds. In growth indexes of two provenances, young seedling got a significant and the most significant difference.Growth index in Shanghaimiao was higher a little, which didn't get to an obvious level. Conclusion The provenances have an effect on physical characteristics, seed capsule penetration, and germination properties;provenance and seed size have an obvious effect on young seedling growth but have not any effect on one-year seedling growth and biomass.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To determine the contents of aesculin and aesculetin in periderms and leaves of Cortex Fraxini among differnet provenances. Methods: HPLC was used with acetonitrile-water(15∶85) as the mobile phase and detected wavelength at 348nm. C 18 column was adopted. Results: The calibration curves were linear. The value of correlation coefficient were 0.9992 and 0.9994, respectively. The average recovery of aesculin was 98.2% and aesculetin was 99.2%. RSD were 2.24% and 2.15%, respectively. The quality differences of Cortex Fraxini among different provenances were remarked. The quality of Cortex Fraxini from Shanxi province was the best. Conclusion: The method is applied in determination and analytics of content of Cortex Fraxini and is rapid, simple and easy to carry out. The method is with the feature of accuracy, repetition and stability.
