ABSTRACT

To analyze the psychological experience of close contacts with COVID-19 during the centralized isolation medical observation (centralized isolation for short) period, 17 close contacts of COVID-19 who received medical isolation observation at designated locations in a city of China were selected by purposive sampling using qualitative study methods, and the interviewees were interviewed by full-coverage structured telephone. By analyzing the obtained data and summarizing the themes, it was found that the psychological status of the COVID-19 close contacts during the centralized isolation period could be classified into three themes: obvious negative emotions, somatization of psychological problems, and demand for social support. During the epidemic, when close contacts were quarantined as high-risk groups, they often had complex and difficult psychological experiences. Relevant departments should actively carry out online guidance channels and offline knowledge dissemination, actively conduct psychological interventions for close contacts, assist them to develop life plans to enrich the life of the centralized isolation period. At the same time, relevant departments should do a good job in logistics and life support services, create a comfortable isolated living environment, and effectively relieve the negative emotions of close contacts of COVID-19 during centralized isolation through a variety of positive and effective measures to ensure physical and mental health.

ABSTRACT

BackgroundNon-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a serious global public health issue and an important risk factor for suicide attempts and completed suicide. The incidence of NSSI among adolescents in China is 27.4%. Therefore, it is critical to address NSSI and prevent its progression into more severe mental health conditions. ObjectiveTo systematically evaluate the psychological experiences and needs of adolescents with NSSI behavior, so as to provide references for formulating targeted intervention strategies for this demographic. MethodsA computer search was conducted across a total of eleven databases, including Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science, CINAHL, Medline, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP and CBM, to gather qualitative research on the psychological experiences and needs of adolescents with NSSI behavior. The search extended from the establishment of these databases up to March, 2023. The Australian Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) qualitative research quality evaluation tools were used to evaluate the included literature, and a Meta-synthesis method was used to integrate the results. ResultsA total of 11 studies were included, yielding 46 research findings. Similar findings were consolidated into 10 new categories, ultimately resulting in 5 synthesized outcomes, including interpersonal conflict, academic pressure and self-reflective struggles, self-injurious behaviors intertwined with inner emotions, the power of love to overcome helplessness, and adjustment and seeking positive coping strategies. ConclusionAdolescents often have experienced negative life events before NSSI behaviors, with notable conflicts in interpersonal relationships, academic pressures and family education. Following NSSI behavior, they undergo various psychological experiences, such as transient feelings of relief, dependence and guilt. In addition, they crave guidance and assistance from professionals to cope with negative emotions.[Funded by Social Psychological Service and Crisis Intervention in 2022 (number, LZXL-202213)]

ABSTRACT

@#Background: COVID-19 has the potential to affect the mental health of health care workers (HCWs). It is known that HCWs who serve as front-liners during the COVID-19 pandemic experience stress and have the fear of contracting the infection. Little is known of how being a positive contact affects HCWs. Objective: We examined the experience of HCWs who were quarantined following a close unprotected contact with a COVID-19 positive colleague and explore the psychological impact especially as the timing of the quarantine coincided with the Eid (annual Muslim festival) celebration in Malaysia. Methods: This was a cross-sectional on-line questionnaire study, involving HCWs exposed to a COVID-19 positive colleague in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre, a teaching hospital. Data on demographics, levels of depression, anxiety and stress using a validated depression, anxiety, and stress scale (DASS-21) questionnaire, aspects of quarantine, wearing of masks, hand hygiene practice and swab experience were collected. Results: Twenty-two HCWs participated. Eighteen (81.8%) were between 30-39 years and 17 (77.3%) were women. Majority 19 (86.3%) were Malays. There were twelve (54.5%) medical officers, 5 (22.7%) specialists and 5(22.7%) allied health staff. Eighteen out of 22 (81.8%) felt they were able to do home quarantine adequately. All tested negative with a mean (Standard Deviation) hour of contact of 2.56±2.38 hours. Eighteen reported their biggest concern was infecting their families. Conclusion: HCWs undergoing contact swabbing and quarantine are vulnerable to depression, anxiety and stress. The ability of the HCW to adequately home quarantine should not be taken for granted. Psychological support should be offered to HCWs who are positive contacts.

ABSTRACT

The search for men by sex workers is still a significant fact in many social, economic and cultural contexts. Therefore, understanding that prostitution has its place in the history of human relations, this research aimed to analyze the psychological experiences of men in the search of sex workers. For the research the phenomenological-empirical method of A. Giorgi and D. Souza (2010) was chosen, with changes proposed by Goto and Feijoo (2016), which consisted in a first moment, to find the essential meanings lived in the then recognize and distinguish the psychological experiences that underlie these meanings. Seven men over the age of 18 and clients of these professionals participated. The interviews were based on a guiding question. In the analysis of the experiences was found as essential meaning the sexual satisfaction, as well as other meanings but of particular order. After the delimitation of meanings was analyzed step-by-step how these meanings are psychologically lived from their structures and psychic conditions, resorting to the psychological-phenomenological descriptions of Husserl, Stein and von Hildebrand. It was concluded that the psychological experience of men is essentially a bodily-affective experience, which arises impulsively in a natural and spontaneous way, and that seeks to maintain the predominance of an affective state of pleasure, enjoyment and satisfaction but having as an end an intersubjective nexus.
