ABSTRACT

Objective To determine the reliability and validity of the Chinese edition of the Amster-dam preoperative anxiety and information scale ( APAIS) for the assessment of preoperative anxiety of Chi-nese patients. Methods The APAIS was translated into Chinese version. One hundred and thirty patients undergoing elective surgery were enrolled to complete the APAIS,STAI-S,VAS-A at the day before surgery, and thirty subjects received a re-test of APAIS at the day of surgery. Results The average score of Chinese version of APAIS anxiety scale and information scale were (7.37±3.51) and (3.67±1.94),respectively. Cronbachαfor the anxiety scale was 0.84 and information scale was 0.78,respectively.Test-retest reliability were r=0.746(P<0.01) and r=0.655(P<0.01) ,respectively.Factor analysis showed anxiety and the desire for information were found, which explained 73.82%of variance. The anxiety scale of APAIS significantly corre-lated with STAI-S and VAS-A,Correlation Coefficient were r=0.720(P<0.01) and r=0.641(P<0.01) ,respec-tively.Conclusion The Chinese version of the APAIS has good reliability and validity to quick measure the preoperative anxiety and desire for information of patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Rivermead Behavioural Memory Test-Third Edition (RBMT-III). Methods The items of RBMT-III were translated in Chinese and adjusted. A total of 131 healthy subjects were tested with Chinese version of RBMT-III, 30 of them were tested again with other materials two weeks later. Results The Cronbach'sαcoefficient was 0.799. The correlation coefficient of parallel-forms in subtest scale and meory index were all more than 0.65. There were six main fac-tors extracted, which explained 64.47%of the accumulated variance, those were novel task learning, spatial memory, verbal memory, visual memory, prospective memory and orientation/date. Conclusion RBMT-III is a reliable and validated instrument for assessment of memory.

ABSTRACT

Objective To determine and evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the Chinese version of the hearing handicap inventory for the elderly screening (CHHIE -S) in China .Methods A total of 840 subjects were assessed with the CHHIE -S scale .The internal consistency reliability of the CHHIE -S was evaluated according to the scale scores of each item .All participants finished pure -tone audiometry test with frequencies of 0 .5 ,1 .0 , 2 .0 ,and 4 .0 kHz .The CHHIE-S'sensitivity ,specificity ,and co -relationship with different degrees of hearing loss were analyzed according to the American Speech -Language-Hearing Associations draft guidelines that sug‐gested a total HHIE -S cut-off points>8 as indicating the presence of hearing handicap .Results ①The CHHIE-S showed a high internal consistency reliability ( Cronbach's α was 0 .85 );② For the detection of hearing loss PTA>25 dB HL (i .e .,pure tone average at 0 .5~4 kHz frequencies >25 dB) ,the HHIE-S cut-off score of >8 had a sensitivity of 45 .8% and a specificity of 97 .7% ;PTA>40 dB HL had a sensitivity of 74 .6% and a specificity of 83 .0% ;and PTA>60 dB HL had a sensitivity of 96 .7% and a specificity of 41 .4% ;③The correlation between CHHIE -S score and hearing loss with PTA >25 dB HL ,PTA>40 dB HL ,and PTA>60 dB HL were 0 .186 , 0 .392 and 0 .370 ,respectively .Conclusion The CHHIE-S had good internal consistency reliability .Both sensitivity and specificity were better when PTA > 40 dB HL as goal to screen elder people for hearing loss .
