ABSTRACT

@#Traditional titanium implants do not completely meet the clinical requirements because they are bioinert. The surface of titanium implants, modified by strontium ions, can enhance osseointegration and reduce peri-implantitis. In this paper, the biological properties of titanium implant surfaces modified by strontium ions were reviewed. Strontium ions can be coated on the implant surface by hydrothermal treatment, electrochemical deposition, phosphate chemical conversion, flame-spraying, supramolecular self-assembly, magnetron sputtering, laser deposition and alkali etching. Implant surfaces modified by strontium ions can not only promote osteogenesis and early osseointegration but also inhibit bacterial growth and reduce postoperative infections. Even better osseointegration and antibacterial effects can be achieved when strontium ions are incorporated with other elements, such as silver, zinc, gallium, and calcium. However, most of the studies on the use of strontium ion-modified titanium implants are animal experiments and in vitro experiments, and the observation time is short compared with the actual service life of the implants. Thus, the conclusions obtained may be different from the actual clinical application, and the long-term effects need to be studied. In addition, the osteogenic effects of various modification methods also need to be compared. Future research can focus on the following points: ① to find efficient modification methods that can be widely used in the clinic; ②to study how to control the concentration of strontium ions near the implant to exert their biological function and reduce their toxic side effects; and ③ to conduct long-term follow-up clinical trials to observe their osteogenic and antibacterial effects.

ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology includes physical and chemical approaches intended for their phytofabrication of metal nanoparticles. Most of the time, these methods are not as safe as these are associated with the utilization of extremely noxious and hazardous substances that produce biological problems. Due to their manifold applications, various biological methods are gaining admiration for the fabrication of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The utilization of vegetative parts in the biosynthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) emerges as a commercial and ecological approach. The spectroscopic profile confirms the occurrence of a functional peak at 360 nm. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) studies indicate that phenol groups are responsible for phytofabrication of NPs. The results of microbicidal screening confirm that broad spectrum of inhibition was found to be observed in 400 μL of biosynthesized AgNP against E. coli (23 mm) and B. cereus (22.3 mm) Therefore, the progress of simple photosynthesis methods avoid deleterious and harmful properties has fascinated major attention in this field.

ABSTRACT

@#Traditional titanium implants are bioinert, and some biological properties, such as osteogenic and antibacterial properties, can be obtained by adding different trace elements to their surfaces. These trace elements can help enhance implant-bone binding and effectively prevent peri-implantitis. Different trace elements have different advantages, and different modification methods can also affect the biological properties. In this paper, the biological properties of titanium implant surfaces modified by trace elements were reviewed. The results of a literature review show that implant surfaces modified by fluoride, silver, zinc, manganese, etc. can inhibit the growth of bacteria and reduce the negative impact on normal cells from bacteria. Other elements, such as strontium, tantalum and cobalt, can promote the differentiation of osteoblasts on the surface of titanium implants, improve the activity of alkaline phosphatase, and improve the expression of osteogenic genes, thus increasing the amount of bone formation and enhancing the strength of implant-bone integration. Most elements have multiple properties, and the combined application of two or more elements can yield more biological properties than a single element. Since there are many trace elements in the human body, there is still a wide research space available in the field of the surface modification of dental implants by trace elements.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of nibble debridement combined with silver ions dressing in treatment of diabetic foot ulcer. Methods The data of 238 patients with diabetic foot ulcer in people's hospital of Meishan from January 2012 to December 2016 were retrospectively analyzed.Of which 125 patients were treated by nibble debridement combined with silver ions dressing(nibble debridement group),113 patients were treated with surgical debridement combined with silver ions dressing(surgical debridement group). The clinical efficacy, wound healing time and complication between two groups were compared. Results The wound healing time of nibble debridement group was (37.5 ± 10.8) days, which was shorter than (45.3 ± 11.7) days of surgical debridement group, the difference was significant (P <0.05).The total effective rate of nibble debridement group was 92.80%,which was higher than 73.45% of surgical debridement group, the difference was significant(P < 0.05).No complication occurred in two groups. Conclusion The method of nibble debridement combined with silver ions dressing treatment has a better satisfactory clinical result, shorter wound healing time and lower medical costs for patients with diabetic foot ulcer.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the impact of silver ions on the adhesion ability of Bacillus Calmette-Gueri vaccine on silicone tube surface. Methods Common and silver plated silicone tubes were cultured in BCG bacterial liquid for 30 days. A gas-bacilli was taken once every 3 days to measure OD value of microbial. The growth curve of BCG vaccine was made. The corresponding silicone tubes in divided different generations was removed and eluted based on the division cycle of BCG vaccine. The samples were inoculated on the solid medium for observing the colony growth amount, and adhesion curve was drawn. The silicone tube colony line was observed under the electron microscope at day 30. Results OD value and bacterial plaque number were less in silver silicone tube group than in common silicone tube group, with statistical significances (P < 0.05). Electron microscopy also showed that BCG adhesion on silver silicone tube group was relatively less than that on common silicone tube group. Conclusion Silver ions can reduce the adhesion of BCG vaccine on silicone tube surface and inhibit the growth of BCG vaccine.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical therapeutic effect of silver ions dressing combined with hy -drogel on diabetic foot .Methods 66 patients with diabetic foot admitted in our hospital during January 2012 and January 2014 were selected and randomly divided into control group and treatment group with 33 cases in each group . The control group was given conventional dressing therapy ,and the treatment group was given silver ions dressing com-bined with hydrogel treatment .The curative effects of both groups were then compared .Results The complete cure rate and cure rate of the treatment group were significantly higher than those in the control group , the time of debride-ment was longer than that in the control group , the growth of granulation tissue and epithelium time formation time was significantly shorter than that in the control group after treatment for 7d, the positive rate of bacteria was significantly lower than the control group .There were no obvious adverse reactions in the two groups during treatment .Conclusion In the treatment of diabetic foot , silver ions dressing combined with hydrogel treatment has better curative effect compared to traditional ones .

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of active silver ions liquids on incontinence of patients with cerebrovascular diseases. Methods Forty-eight patients with incontinence from cerebrovascular diseases were randomly divided into the treatment group and control one in equal number:the control group was managed with washing and cleaning the perineum with warm water in the morning and evening and the treatment group with active antibacterial liquid silver ion liquids in the afternoon once a day.The two groups were compared in terms of red swelling, itching, papula, blister, local shallow ulcer and abscess in the skin around the perineum as well as the incidence of urinary system infections. Results The treatment group had significantly lower incidences of red swelling, itching, papula, blister, local shallow ulcer and abscess in the skin around the perineum as well as the incidence of urinary system infections,as compared to the control group(all P<0.05).Conclusion Cleaning perineum with active silver ions liquids is effective for the prevention of infections in the skin around the perineum and urinary system infections.
