ABSTRACT

An attempt has been made to investigate the Effect of Yogic Exercises on Level of Aspiration and Emotional Intelligence among the Adolescents. Fifty male students of U.G. college level were practiced different types of yogic exercises like Surya Namaskar, Asanas, Pranayam and Meditation for eight weeks by maintaining a schedule. Level of Aspiration was measured by Mahesh Bhargava and M. A. Shah's level of aspiration scale and Emotional Intelligence was measured by Mental Health Battery by Singha and Gupta. In results, it was found that there was difference between pre-test and post-test. So, it was evident that yogic exercises impact signi?cantly on level of aspiration among the adolescents but no signi?cant difference in emotional intelligence

ABSTRACT

Background: Obesity is fast becoming the developed world's greatest health problem. Moreover, childhood obesity is a major public health crisis nationally and internationally. The prevalence of childhood obesity has increased over few years. It is caused by imbalance between calorie intake and calories utilized. Methods: The current paper analyses the impact of Surya Namaskar and Pranayama on management of child obesity. For this purpose, a group of 120 respondents were selected for a 4-month program to measure that whether the program can improve their living standards or not. Results: The result revealed positive impact on the obesity of the participants, further the variables of their medical condition and living standards improvement is identified. Conclusions: One variable Rate_yoga_1 is predicting the Overall_quality of Surya Namaskar and Pranayama. Further, four variables medi_conImp_3, medi_conImp_2, medi_conImp_5 and medi_conImp_4 are predicting the medical condition improvement under session of Surya Namaskar and Pranayama, and two variables Livi_stanimpr_4 and Livi_stanimpr_3 are predicting the living standard improvement under session of Surya Namaskar and Pranayama.

ABSTRACT

Surya Namaskar (SN), a popular traditional Indian yogic practice called “Sun Salutations”, includes practice of twelve physical postures involving alternate backward bending and forward bending postures. The practice of twelve postures in succession makes one round of its practice. Many people practise it as part of their daily physical fitness regimen. No study is available to compare cardiorespiratory responses of SN with bicycle exercise (BE). 20 healthy Yoga instructors practicing various Yogic practices including SN since last 7-8 years participated in the study. They performed SN in the laboratory according to their customary daily practice routine. The subject also performed incremental load bicycle exercise test till exhaustion on their second visit for measuring their 􀀅 V O2 max. SN and BE were compared at three similar exercise intensity levels in terms of % of 􀀅 V O2 max. The exercise intensities were light (10-20% 􀀅 V O2 max), moderate (21-40% 􀀅 V O2 max) and high intensities (41-50% 􀀅 V O2 max). Heart rate at high work intensity was significantly higher in BE than SN (P<.001). Ventilation and carbon dioxide output were significantly higher in BE than SN at high exercise intensity (P<0.001). Overall, cardiorespiratory stress is less in SN than BE at similar work intensities
