ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#Some depressed patients receive acupuncture as an adjunct to their conventional medications.@*OBJECTIVE@#This review aims to provide evidence on whether acupuncture can enhance the therapeutic effectiveness of antidepressants for treating depression, and explore whether acupuncture can reduce the adverse reactions associated with antidepressants.@*SEARCH STRATEGY@#English and Chinese databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published until December 1, 2021.@*INCLUSION CRITERIA@#RCTs with a modified Jadad scale score ≥ 4 were included if they compared a group of participants with depression that received acupuncture combined with antidepressants with a control group that received antidepressants alone.@*DATA EXTRACTION AND ANALYSIS@#Meta-analysis was performed, and statistical heterogeneity was assessed based on Cochran's Q statistic and its related P-value. Primary outcomes were the reduction in the severity of depression and adverse reactions associated with antidepressants, while secondary outcomes included remission rate, treatment response, social functioning, and change in antidepressant dose. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) framework was used to evaluate the overall quality of evidence in the included studies.@*RESULTS@#This review included 16 studies (with a total of 1958 participants). Most studies were at high risk of performance bias and at low or unclear risk of selection bias, detection bias, attrition bias, reporting bias, and other bias. Analysis of the 16 RCTs showed that, compared with antidepressants alone, acupuncture along with antidepressants reduced the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale-17 (HAMD-17) scores (standard mean difference [SMD] -0.44, 95% confidence interval [CI] -0.55 to -0.33, P < 0.01; I2 = 14%), Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) scores (SMD -0.53, 95% CI -0.84 to -0.23, P < 0.01; I2 = 79%), and the Side Effect Rating Scale (SERS) scores (SMD -1.11, 95% CI -1.56 to -0.66, P < 0.01; I2 = 89%). Compared with antidepressants alone, acupuncture along with antidepressants improved World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF scores (SMD 0.31, 95% CI 0.18 to 0.44, P < 0.01; I2 = 15%), decreased the number of participants who increased their antidepressant dosages (relative risk [RR] 0.32, 95% CI 0.22 to 0.48, P < 0.01; I2 = 0%), and resulted in significantly higher remission rates (RR 1.52, 95% CI 1.26 to 1.83, P < 0.01; I2 = 0%) and treatment responses (RR 1.35, 95% CI 1.24 to 1.47, P < 0.01; I2 = 19%) in terms of HAMD-17 scores. The HAMD-17, SDS and SERS scores were assessed as low quality by GRADE and the other indices as being of moderate quality.@*CONCLUSION@#Acupuncture as an adjunct to antidepressants may enhance the therapeutic effectiveness and reduce the adverse drug reactions in patients receiving antidepressants. These findings must be interpreted with caution, as the evidence was of low or moderate quality and there was a lack of comparative data with a placebo control.@*SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION@#INPLASY202150008.

ABSTRACT

(AU)

Positive Psychology is now a consolidated science and there is much evidence that demonstrates the effectiveness of its interventions on health and well-being. However, the expansion of non-academic PP and the appropriation of its ideals by the media indicate the need for reflection on the consequential validity of studies in the area. From this perspective, the article aims to a) characterize PP and discuss its expansion, considering the incorporation of precepts of PP by the media and the marketing consequences of a self-centered and utilitarian conception of happiness, oblivious to collective demands, b) problematize, in ethical and social terms, the use of positive constructs in non-academic practices and provide evidence that interventions involving positive constructs can have unfavorable effects on people or society when decontextualized, and c) consider epistemological differences of the three waves that characterize the movement and discuss the future of the area. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of internal heat-type acupuncture needle (IHTAN) the-rapy in the treatment of post-stroke shoulder pain in apopletic patients. METHODS: According to the random number table, 96 patients with post-stroke shoulder pain were divided into IHTAN group and warm needle moxibustion group (n=48 in each one). Jianyu (LI15), Jianliao (TE14), Jianzhen (SI9), Binao (LI14) and Ashi points (Extra) on the affected side were selected in the two groups. For patients of the IHTAN group, internal warmth controllable acupuncture needles were inserted into the above-mentioned acupoints, and then connected to an internal heat acupuncture apparatus for stimulating the acupoints at 42 ℃, 20 min every time, once a week, for 4 weeks. For patients of the warm needle moxibustion group, the above mentioned acupoints were stimulated with filiform needles attached with an ignited moxa-stick, once every other day, for 4 weeks. If the shoulder pain disappeared or basically disappeared, it was considered to be healed, if the pain was relieved, it was considered to be effective, ot-herwise, it was considered to be ineffective. The incidence of local skin injury including burn, empyrosis, silt blue, hematoma and infection, the heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, oxyhemoglobin saturation, blood routine (hemoglobin level, white blood cell [WBC] count, platelet count), creatase and dipolymer levels were recorded or detected. Additionally, the patients' satisfaction rate about the treatment environment was recorded. RESULTS: Following the treatment, of the 45 and 47 cases in the warm needle moxibustion and IHTAN groups, 5 (11.11%) and 20 (42.55%) were cured, 26(57.78%) and 21(44.68%) experienced marked improvement, and 14 (31.11%) and 6 (12.77%) had no apparent changes in their shoulder pain severity, with the total effective rates being 68.89% and 87.23%, respectively. The curative rate and total effective rate of the IHTAN group were significantly higher than those of the warm needle moxibustion group (P0.05). CONCLUSION: The IHTAN therapy is effective, safe and reliable in the treatment of post-stroke shoulder pain. In terms of the incidence of skin injury and the satisfaction degree of therapeutic environment, the internal heat-type acupuncture needle therapy is obviously superior to the warm needle moxibustion therapy.

ABSTRACT

At present there are new drugs with a high effectiveness in the treatment of patients with wounds which cure by second intention. That is why it was decided to make a literature review on the effects, cause of prescription and use of some of these non traditional, more modern and more effective products which are internationally marketed; among which there were the growth factors, interleukins, collagen, quitine, ozone, polyvinilbutilic ether, drugs for debridement, olygotherapy, the negative pressure devices, the "intelligent" bandages, the interactive and bioactive dressings, and the cure in humid atmosphere. Also, the use of mother cells is pointed out, the gen therapy and the defense peptides, as greater promising possibilities for the future. These new drugs are not used in Cuba, but if they are included to the National Health System, they would influence in the improvement of the medical care quality in patients with dehiscent wounds.

A phase II clinical and therapeutical trial was conducted in 120 patients with non neurological low back pain, attended at the emergency ward and the outpatient department of "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto" Higher Institute of Military Medicine and "Dr. Carlos J Finlay" Central Military Hospital, from January 2009 to June 2010, with the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment. Two groups of 60 patients each were divided, which were compared with a control group with the same number of patients, but with drug treatment. It was found that patients treated with acupuncture improved in less time, particularly those in group 2, so that this technique was effective in relieving back pain in those patients it was applied, while allowing to reduce the time of treatment, save medications and achieve rapid return to work and social life.

ABSTRACT

An experimental study of therapeutic intervention type was carried out, with the auriculotherapy and kinesiotherapy application to 60 adult hypertensive patients who attended the therapeutic area of the Provincial Centre of Sport Medicine in Santiago de Cuba during the first semester of 2011. The higher evolutive effectiveness with the combination of both therapies could be demonstrated in comparison with the use of the second one alone, as adjuvant therapies of the conventional treatment, as complications were not present with their use. Among other advantages there was the decrease in the use of antihypertensive drugs in most of the members of the case material, which reduced their expenses due to it.

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo explore the cognitive psychological characteristics of the insomniac and the effect of cognitive therapy.Methods93 insomniac in-patients were divided randomly into the trial group (n=47) and control group (n=46). The trial group was treated by cognitive therapy plus medicine. The control group was only treated with medicines. The treatment lasted for 8 weeks. Before and after treatment, patients of all two groups were examined by Beliefs and Attitudes about Sleep Scale (DBAS). 45 healthy individuals were also examined at the same time. The therapeutic effect was evaluated with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).ResultsBefore treatment, DBAS scores of insomniacs were significantly different from the healthy (P<0.001). After treatment, scores of DBAS and PSQI of the trial group were significantly different from that of the control group ( P<0.001).ConclusionThe cognitive treatment can change erroneous cognitions related to sleeping in the insomniac and improve the therapeutic effect.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the clinical significance of neuron specific enolase (NSE),carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) and carcinoma associated antigen(CA125) in diagnosis, evaluation of therapy and monitoring metastasis and recurrence of lung cancer. Methods The levels of NSE,CEA and CA125 were detected in the sera from 30 healthy controls,48 patients with benign diseases,50 patients with non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) and 14 patients with small cell lung cancer(SCLC) by using microparticle enzyme linked immunoassay and bioantibodies sandwich one step assay by using streptavidin technique, respectively. Results The levels of NSE and CEA in the sera of patients with NSCLC and SCLC were significantly higher than those of healthy controls and patients with benign diseases (both P0 05).The levels of NSE CEA and CA125 decreased after the treatment and increased greatly with the metastasis and recurrence of the cancer. After the combination of NSE and CEA and CA125,the sensitivity significantly increased, but no difference was found in the specifity. Conclusion Measuring serum levels of NSE,CEA and CA125 are very useful in diagnosis, evaluation of therapy and monitoring of metastasis and recurrence of lung cancer.

ABSTRACT

@#The paper was a study on the effect of UBIO on ischemic strokes. 80 Cases with acute ischemic strokes were randomly divided into two groups:UBIO group and control group. Clinic effectiveness, hemorheology and in vitro infarction were studied before and after 14 days treatment. Clinical results showed that the excellent, effetive rate of UBIO group was respectively better than that of control group (P<0.05). The results of hemorheology and in vitro infarction showed UBIO has a faster effectiveness than control group. The results indicate that UBIO therapy is a hopeful assistant method for the treatment of acute ischemic strokes.
