ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the effects of Zusanli acupoint massage combined with abdominal touching on feeding intolerance (FI) of premature infants. Methods:A total of 100 premature infants meeting the inclusion criteria in neonatal ward of the hospital from January 2018 to June 2020 were divided into control group (50 cases) and observation group (50 cases) by random number table method. The control group was given routine treatment and feeding, while observation group was given Zusanli acupoint massage and abdominal touching on the basis of control group. The feeding observation indexes, three immunoglobulin indexes, FI and complications were compared between the two groups. Results:The feeding transition time (8.57 ± 2.35 d vs. 11.60 ± 4.38 d, t=4.310) and the time of returning to birth weight (9.11 ± 1.79 d vs. 10.48 ± 2.34 d, t=3.289) in observation group were significantly shorter than those in control group ( P<0.05), and feeding efficiency (9.48 ± 2.07 ml/min vs. 7.16 ± 2.30 ml/min, t=5.302) was significantly higher than that of control group ( P<0.05). The incidence rates of FI [14.0% (7/50) vs. 42.0% (21/50); χ2=9.722, P<0.01] and apnea [12.0% (6/50) vs. 32.0% (16/51); χ2=5.828, P<0.01]. Conclusion:Zusanli acupoint massage combined with abdominal touching is beneficial to improve feeding performance of premature infants, recover birth weight as soon as possible, achieve total intestinal feeding and improve early feeding tolerance.

ABSTRACT

The value of the "touching-bone" acupuncture technique in clinical application was explained through the investigation on the origin of the theory of the "touching-bone" acupuncture technique, the analysis on the characteristics of acupoint selection, the introduction of clinical characteristics and the discussion on the mechanism of acupuncture in treatment. The "touching-bone" acupuncture technique refers to deep needling method, originated from the short needling and needling of the ancient needling methodslisted in the . The target points are the reaction sites on meridian near to bone and the attachments of soft tissues on bone. During the needle insertion, the needle tip is thrust deeply to the bone or the needle body is closely attached to the bone so as to stimulate periosteum specifically. This needling technique contributes to the satisfactory effect on spasmodic, deep-located and intractable pain disorder, motor system diseases, mental diseases and cerebral diseases, etc. Hence, this acupuncture technique deserves to be promoted in clinical application and explored in research.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the pain severity, the motor function of the upper limb and the quality of life in the patients of post-stroke shoulder pain treated with the touching-periosteum needling technique of the meridian muscle region theory.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>One hundred and six cases of post-stroke shoulder pain were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 53 cases in each one. In the observation group, the touching-periosteum needle technique and the rehabilitation training were used on the bases of the theory of meridian muscle region. The points were,,,, Quchi (LI 11), Shousanli (LI 10) and Waiguan (TE 5) on the affected side. The needles were inserted obliquely, at 45°degrees at those extra points to the tendon knots till the needle tips touching periosteum. The needles were manipulated to ensure thearrival and then retained for 30 min. The rehabilitation was applied, such as the anti-spasmodic posture, bridge-style movement on the bed, weight transition and balance training, joint activity maintenance training, passive and active movement of shoulder joint, the training for activities of daily living (ADL) and Bobath technique. In the control group, the routine acupuncture and the rehabilitation training were used. The acupints were Jianyu (LI 15), Binao (LI 14), Jianliao (TE 14), Jianqian (Extra), Quchi (LI 11), Shousanli (LI 10) and Waiguan (TE 5). The rehabilitation training was the same as the observation group. The treatment was given once every day, 6 treatments a week. After 20 treatments, the visual analogue scale (VAS), Fugl-Meyer (FMA) score and Barthel (MBI) score were adopted to evaluate the pain severity, the motor function of the upper limb and the ADL. The clinical therapeutic effects were evaluated in the two groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The VAS scores were reduced after treatment as compared with those before treatment in the two groups, and FMA and MBI scores were all increased as compared with those before treatment, indicating the significant difference statistically (<0.05,<0.01). After treatment, the improvements in the observation group were better than those in the control group (all<0.05). The curative and remarkably effective rate was 69.8% (37/53) in the observation group, better than 47.2% (25/53) in the control group (<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The touching-periosteum needling technique of the meridian muscle region theory obviously improves the pain severity, the motor function of the upper limb and the quality of life in patients of post-stroke shoulder pain. The therapeutic effects are better than the routine acupuncture.</p>

ABSTRACT

A questionnaire-based survey was administered to determine how community pharmacists recognize the necessity for and frequency of touching their patients during care giving. The questionnaire was sent to 400 community pharmacies that practiced home care, and 147 valid responses were analyzed. The survey suggested that acts recognized by pharmacists to require touching were measuring vital signs and helping patients take oral medications. It was thought that pharmacists needed to help patients in taking oral medications and also needed to determine issues related to oral intake. The survey also indicated that the frequencies of measuring vital signs and applying plasters to patients were high. Measuring vital signs was considered routine work, and applying plasters to patients was considered occasional work. Many respondents stated the need for practical study sessions on measuring vital signs. The frequency of measuring vital signs has increased because pharmacists have increasingly recognized this need. Additionally, females tended to touch their patients more frequently than males. However, there was no relationship between the frequency of examining bedsores and applying ointments on them and gender because it was thought that knowledge and experience were more important. The recognition of necessity for touching their patients was high but the frequency was comparatively low, and there was a discrepancy between the recognition of necessity and frequency. It was suggested that practical study sessions on when patients should be touched should be a high priority.

ABSTRACT

A questionnaire-based survey was conducted to clarify how community pharmacists recognize the legal validity of acts that involve touching their patients and to determine if the pharmacists had personal feelings of resistance toward particular acts. The questionnaire was sent to 400 community pharmacies that practiced home care and 147 valid responses were analyzed. The survey suggested that there were many pharmacists who had no objection toward measuring vital signs, such as temperature and blood pressure. Additionally, they recognized that it was necessary for doctors, other professionals, and patients to recognize their ability to measure vital signs. The survey also suggested that there were strong feelings of resistance toward invasive acts, such as insertion of an enema tube or a suppository. It was considered that these feelings were due to insufficient knowledge and experience, as well as uneasiness with hygiene issues. The necessity to participate in a practical study session was emphasized. When pharmacists recognized a problem with the legality of an act, their feelings of resistance, particularly toward examining bedsores and applying ointment on them, tended to become strong. Therefore, it was suggested that pharmacists may be able to perform the acts without feelings of resistance if the legality of the acts was clarified. Based on these findings, it is necessary to find a suitable rationale for performing each act, so that pharmacists will be able to perform the acts that involve touching their patients without feelings of resistance.

ABSTRACT

In this lecture, about the relationship between mind and skin, was introduced on the basis of research of psychology and physiology. It pointed out that both the brain and the skin differentiated from ectoderm, and the skin is also an information processing organ, and that the effects of the skin sense on the mind. In the vibration generated by stroking the skin, the characteristics of 1/f fluctuation is generated on the skin, and it increases a feeling of comfort.<BR>By touching the skin, the physiological substance called oxytocin is secreted in the brain, and it will help to build an intimate relationship with others. From the point of healing, there are two important points on touching;moving the hand in a slow speed, and touching one's skin with a weak pressure. The former was caused by the firing of C tactile fibers, the latter was caused by the parasympathetic nervous system. It is considered that by way of touch with these features, a person can get a maximum of both healing and the feelings of pleasure. <BR>Finally, it pointed out that the importance of viewing the skin from both an input and an output. Touching the skin is not only imputing of the stimulus, but also catching the signals of the insides of the body such as internal organs and the mind. So it is important as a point of view of touching the skin as an output organ.

ABSTRACT

In this article, three topics were discussed. First, touch sensation as interface of self and environment was discussed in terms of Embodied psychology. Second, the effect of touching was discussed. In the first experiment, a psychological change in three groups that had operated the body contact was examined. (touching, being touched, and self touch). The result was that only in touched subjects their anxiety level lowered. Second experiment revealed that the amount of physical touch received from parents in childhood effect their psychological adaptation in their adult period. Third, the mechanism of Acupuncture and moxibustion therapy was discussed in terms of skin. Both therapies intervenes the skin, and they cause the change for internal organs<BR>and the muscle, etc, and, in addition, these changes are reflected in the skin. The skin is, in a word, an interface of the input and the output. The importance of treating the skin from such an aspect, and of the direct contact to the skin was discussed.
