ABSTRACT

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has played an important role in the prevention and treatment of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Qingfei Paidu decoction,as a general prescription of Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia from the sixth to eighth versions, has been proved effective clinically and is suitable for mild, moderate, severe, and critical patients. It can significantly improve clinical symptoms such as fever, cough, asthma, fatigue, etc. On the basis of the findings of relevant research papers, this paper summarized the TCM understanding of COVID-19, including etiology, pathogenesis, disease location, and treatment, and concluded that the disease is caused by the pestilential Qi,localized in the lungs, and can affect the five organs. It is mainly characterized by coldness, dampness, heat, toxicity, stasis, and deficiency. In response to the etiology and pathogenesis of the disease, the therapeutic principles at all stages are dominated by the elimination of pathogens and removal of toxicity. According to the stages of disease development, the treatment should combine the severity of the disease and the course of the disease with the TCM syndromes. Furthermore, from the clinical application of Qingfei Paidu decoction, this paper discussed the therapeutic intention of "Qingfei (clearing of lungs)" and "Paidu (removal of toxicity)". Qingfei Paidu decoction can clear the pathogenic toxin in the lungs and eliminate external pestilential Qi,which is in line with the therapeutic principles for this pandemic by regulating the triple energizer and protecting healthy Qi using both coldness and warmth to treat both the symptoms and the root cause. Additionally, the experimental research progress on Qingfei Paidu decoction and its modified prescriptions were summarized. As studied, this prescription can inhibit cytokine storm, moderate the overactive immune response, potentiate the immune function and anti-viral ability of the body, and exert its effect on COVID-19 with multiple components, multiple targets, multiple pathways, and multiple biological functions. In conclusion,Qingfei Paidu decoction,as a core prescription for the treatment of COVID-19,can rapidly contain the development of COVID-19, which has been confirmed in terms of TCM theory, clinical efficacy, and experimental research.

ABSTRACT

@#Nitric oxide(NO)is a vital signal messenger in human and generated by nitric oxide synthase including endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS), inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)and neuropathic nitric oxide synthase(nNOS). NO has important regulatory function on the immune system, nervous system and many other physiological systems. Endogenous NO can enhance the function of the vascular system and endothelial cell survival, and inhibit platelet accumulation and leukocyte infiltration. Excessive production of NO may damage tissues by cytotoxic and cytostatic effects. Thus, NO plays a dual role in physiology and pathology. This paper gives a brief review on regulatory effects of NOS-NO system by traditional Chinese medicine during the recent five years, so as to provide some clues or references for the treatment of related diseases and scientific evidene for reasonable and effective clinical application.

ABSTRACT

Objective]Collecting and studying Wang Fu and his book YiLing CuanYao TanYuan systematically. [Method]Literature research on Wang Fu's life and the versions ofYiLing CuanYao TanYuan, reviewing his concept of study and academic thoughts. [Result]Confucian Wang Fu wrote more than 30 manuscripts, his medical masterpiece“YiLing CuanYao TanYuan, existing versions of two Qing printed editions and one Qing transcript, guided by medical source, centered on traditional Chinese medicine and prescription, accounted for human disease, made a comprehensive and profound elaboration on the basic theory of TCM.The recipes and traditional Chinese medicine of this book have clinical significance . [Conclusion]The collecting and studying have important literature value. These are worthy of our future generations to inherit and carry forward.

ABSTRACT

@# Objective To observe the effectiveness of Dabugantang decoction on post-stroke fatigue. Methods 83 stroke patients were included and divided into control group (n=45) and treatment group (n=38). Both groups accepted routine rehabilitation, while the treatment group was administrated with Dabugantang decoction twice daily for 4 weeks in addition. All the patients were evaluated with Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), and Modified Barthel Index (MBI) before and after treatment. Results The scores of HAMD and MBI increased significantly in both groups after treatment (P<0.05). The score of FSS significantly decreased in the treatment group after treatment (P<0.05), but no significant difference was found in the control group (P>0.05). There were statistical differences in the scores of FSS, HAMD and MBI between two groups after treatment (P<0.05). Conclusion Dabugantang decoction can alleviate the fatigue and depression in stroke patients and improve activities of daily living.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) combined with regular therapy in the treatment of pneumonia with systemic inflammatory response syndrome(SIRS) in(children). Methods: Sixty-four children with pneumonia including 51 cases with SIRS complication were(randomly) divided into three groups: treatment group(regular therapy+TCM,n=26),control group Ⅰ((regular)(therapy) only,n=25) and the control groups Ⅱ(13 pneumonia children without SIRS(receiving)(routine) treatment). The dynamic changes of tumor necrosis factor-?(TNF-?),interleukin-6(IL-6) and IL-8 were measured before and after treatment in all children.Serum Creactive protein(CRP) and total white blood cell(WBC) count were measured simultaneously.Clinical symptom and sign scores were(performed)(5 days) after treatment in children with pneumonia and SIRS complication. Results: Before(treatment),serum TNF-?,IL-6,IL-8 and CRP concentrations were significantly higher in treatment group and(control) group Ⅰ than(control) group Ⅱ(all P
