ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the characteristics and clinical utility of vestibular autorotation test (VAT) in patients with vestibular migraine(VM).@*Methods@#This study included two groups, a VM group (441 patients from Tianjin First Center Hospital between January 2015 and May 2016) and a control group (65 healthy subjects). Both groups undertook VAT; the parameters evaluated were horizontal gain/phase, vertical gain/phase and asymmetry. The differences in VAT results between the two groups were investigated.@*Results@#There were statistically significant differences in VAT results between the VM and the control group, namely elevated horizontal gain at frequency 2, 3, 4 and 5 Hz, delay horizontal phase at frequency 2, 4, 5 and 6 Hz, elevated vertical gain at frequency 2-6 Hz and delay vertical phase at frequency 4-6 Hz. There was no significant difference in asymmetric values between the VM group and the control group.@*Conclusions@#The results of this study indicate that VM patients have elevated horizontal gain and vertical gain, and delay horizontal phase and vertical phase. It is suggested that VAT represents a useful diagnostic tool which may provide objective evidence for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of VM.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the clinical value of vestibular autorotation test (VAT) in the treatment for otogenic vertigo patients. Method:One hundred and twenty-nine definite otogenic vertigo patients were included. All patients underwent the VAT and caloric test (CT). The results were analyzed statistically. Result:In VAT examination, 89 (69.0%) cases were abnormal. In CT examination, 56 (43.4%) cases were abnormal. In the contrast test of VAT and CT, VAT results were abnormal in 47 (36.4%) patients and CT results were abnormal in 14 (10.9%) patients. The number of patients whose both VAT and CT results were abnormal was 42 (32.6%). The total number of patients with various abnormal results was 103 (79.8%). According to statistical analysis, the abnormal result rate of VAT was higher than that of CT. The abnormal result rate of both VAT and CT was higher than that of each single test. There was statistic significance in the difference (χ²=1.670, P<0.05). Conclusion:For otogenic vertigo patients, their abnormal result rate of VAT is higher than that of CT. VAT and CT can be mutually complementary. The combination of VAT and CT can help to understand the function of semicircular canal in the general and provide reference for the treatment of otogenic vertigo diseases.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the characteristics of vestibular autorotation test (VAT) in patients with the posterior circulation transient ischemic attacks(PCTIA) ,further reveal the pathogenesis vestibular function damage because of PCTIA .Methods VAT was performed on 41 patients with posterior circulation transient ischemic at‐tacks(PCTIA group) and 30 healthy controls(control group) .Parameters analyzed included gains ,phases and a‐symmetry of VAT .The positive result of the test could be defined if any of the paramaeters was abnormal .Results In the PCTIA group and control group ,gains were enhanced without being reduced as showed in 25 (62 .5% ,25/40) cases and 5(16 .7% ) ,respectively (χ2 =7 .09 ,P<0 .01) ,gains were enhanced with reduced as showed in 10(25% ) cases and 0(0% ) ,respectively (χ2 =8 .78 ,P<0 .01) .Conclusion The results of VAT in patients with the PCTIA can show gains enhanced with reduced in different frequency .VAT can provide valuable reference on positioning as‐sessment of vestibular system damage in patients with PCTIA .
