ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of B7-H1 in normal thyroid tissues adjacent to nodular goiter and thyroid papillary carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemistry EnVisionTM two step staining method was used to monitor tumor expression of B7-H1, its relationship with clinicopathological features was analyzed. Results The positive reaction of B7-H1 material as brown granules showed positive in cytoplasm, with occasional cell nuclear staining.Positive expression of B7-H1 in papillary thyroid carcinoma tissues 58.2% (39/67) was significantly higher than that 12.5% (2/16) of expression of B7-H1 in the normal thyroid tissues adjacent to nodular goiter.B7-H1 in thyroid papillary carcinoma score 2.94 ± 1.843 was significantly higher than the score 0.88 ± 1.204.(P < 0.01) of B7-H1 in the normal thyroid tissues adjacent to nodular goiter. The average rank of B7-H1 expression in poorly differentiated papillary thyroid carcinoma 40.92 was significantly higher than the average rank expression in papillary thyroid carcinoma with high differentiation in 27.18 and 34.67, the average rank expression in lymph node metastasis in papillary thyroid carcinoma was significantly higher than 35.93 of the average rank expression without lymph node metastasis in papillary thyroid carcinoma (18.75, P <0.01).Conclusions The expression of B7-H1 was significantly higher in papillary thyroid carcinoma than in normal thyroid tissue, and was positively correlated with the degree of differentiation and lymph nodes.

ABSTRACT

Asthma is a complex immune mediated chronic inflammatory lung disease characterized by chronic inflammation of the airways, airway hyper-responsiveness and airway obstruction, and the prevalence of this disease has increased in recent years. It is well known that many features of allergic asthma are consequences of Th2 cell dominated immune responses against allergens, thus allergen specific Th2 cells play a critical role in the pathogenesis. In this review, we will discuss the properties of common indoor and outdoor allergens including house dust mite, fungus, pollen and cockroach, the activation and differentiation of naive CD4 T cells by protease allergens, how specific allergens modify host's immune system to mediate immune evasion, and regulation of homing receptor expression and trafficking of allergen specific Th2 cells. Lastly, we will also overview the general course of pathogenesis of allergic asthma and discuss prospects of development of novel immuno-therapies to asthma.

ABSTRACT

Regulatory T cell (Treg) infiltration is an important mechanism for inhibition of tumor immune microenvironment. Treg is highly expressed in peripheral blood and tumor tissue of various cancer patients. A high expression of Treg may inhibit the antitumor effect of CD4 + CD8 + T lymphocytes or induce immunological resistance to tumor antigens among cytotoxic T lymphocytes(CTL) without producing acute or memory CTL responses, resulting in tumor escape from immuneattack and immune suppressionin in the tumor microenvironment.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the expression of T lymphocyte activation antigen in peripheral blood of aged patients with non-small cell lung cancer . Methods The lymphocytes from peripheral blood in 45 aged patients with non-small cell lung cancer were immunologically labeled in double fluorescence and CD3-FITC, CD25/HLA-DR and CD69-PE and determined by flow cytometry. Normal aged donors, young patiens with lung cancer and aged benign lesion group were used as controls. Results Peripheral blood CD3 +/CD25 +, CD3 +/HLA -DR + and CD3 +/CD69 + in T lymphocyte with 45 aged lung cancer(7.24?1.85,28.46?5.39 and 7.78?2.63, respectively) were significantly lower than those in normal aged controls(10.35?2.54,37.16?5.51,11.02?2.18, respectively)and aged benign lesion (9.53?3.02, 35.33?5.23, 10.67?2.45, respectively)( P 0.05). Significant differences were found among them in stages Ⅲ, Ⅳ(7.15?1.13, 25.32?5.23, 7.14?2.81, respectively) and stagesⅠ,Ⅱ(8.06?1.21, 30.27?6.05, 8.43?2.67, respectively)( P 0.05). Conclusions Detection of CD3 +/CD25 +, CD3 +/HLA -DR + and CD3 +/CD69 + levels by flow cytometry might be helpful for reflecting the human immune function and the prognosis evaluation in patients with aged non-small cell lung cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the relationship between the gene polymorphism of the inducible costimulatory molecules (ICOS),CD_(28),CD_(24) and susceptibility to multiple sclerosis(MS). Methods 83 patients with MS and 110 controls selected from healthy individuals and hospital staff in Chinese Han people with non-autoimmune diseases were studied by detecting genotype of the 3 genes using PCR-RFLP method. Results The frequency of ICOS-2394 TT genotypes was significantly higher in MS patients than in controls (MS 33.7%vs controls 10.9%, P
