ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in breast carcinoma and the relationship between the expression and clinical pathological characterization. Methods Specimens taken from 50 fresh resected breast carcinoma tissue and 16 normal breast tissue were selected.Tissue sections were stained by EnVisionTM imnunohistochemistry with MMP-9 as monoclonal antibody. The expression of MMP-9 in breast carcinoma and the relationship between the expression and clinical pathological characterization were studied. Results The positive rate of MMP-9 breast cancer carcinoma was 59.32%,which was significantly higher than that of normal breast tissue 9.62%,with statistical significance (P < 0.01).The average rank and score of MMP-9 in the metastatic tissue of breast carcinoma were higher than that of no metastatic breast cancer tissue (P < 0.01).Conclusions MMP-9 may be related to the destruction of extracellular matrix and basement membrane near the surface of breast cancer cells, thereby promoting the invasion and metastasis of breast cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study on the relationship between the serum level of highsensitivity c-reaction protein (hs-CR),matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMT-9),tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) and carotid plaque stability in elderly people. Methods According to the carotid ultrasonography examination,120 old people were divided into vulnerable plaque group (group A,n =45),stable plaque group (group B,n =41) and no plaque group (group C,n =34),and serum levels of hs-CRP,MMP-9,TIMP-1 in each group were also detected. Results The serum levels of hs-CRP and MMP-9 of unstable plaque group and stable plaque group were higher than those of non-plaque group (P < 0.05).hsCRP and MMP-9 were positively correlated with carotid plaque unstability, while TIMP-1 was negatively correlated with carotid plaque unstability,hs-CRP,MMP-9 and TIMP-1 were independent risk factors for carotid plaque stability. Conclusions Serum levels of hs-CRP,MMP-9 and TIMP-1 are closely related to the stability of carotid plaque.Elevated levels of hs-CRP and MMP-9 increase the risk of carotid plaque, and elevated levels of TIMP-1 decrease the risk of carotid plaque.

ABSTRACT

Ischemic cerebrovascular disease is a common and frequently occurring disease in the elderly. It has the characteristics of high disability rate, high mortality rate, and high recurrence rate, which seriously threatens the life and health of the elderly. At present, clinical diagnosis and evaluation are mainly based on medical history, neurological symptoms and signs and imaging examination. The incidence of ischemic cerebrovascular disease is rapid, the existing diagnostic methods have different degrees of hysteresis and limitations in the diagnosis time.Related clinical study found that in the process of ischemic cerebrovascular disease accompanied by serum S-100 beta, matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9)-related indicators of change. This article reviews the recent progress of S-100 beta and MMP-9 in ischemic cerebrovascular disease.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression and clinicopathological significance of metastasis-associated 1 (MTA1), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) in a gastric adenocarcinoma. Methods The expressions of MTA1, MMP-9, and VEGF-C were detected with immunohistochemical method in 120 cases of gastric adenocarcinoma tissues and 30 cases of normal gastric tissues. Results The positive percentage of MTA1, MMP-9, and VEGF-C proteins in gastric adenocarcinomas was 76.7% , 71.7% , and 64.2% , respectively, which was significantly higher than that (33.3%, 36.7%, and 30.0%) in normal gastric mucosa tissues (P <0.05).The expressions of MTA1, MMP-9, and VEGF-C were significantly higher in gastric carcinoma invasion serous membrane, lymph node metastasis, clinical Ⅲ ~ than that in non-invasion serous membrane, non-lymph node metastasis, and clinical Ⅰ ~ Ⅱ (P < 0.05).The expression of MTA1 had significantly positive correlation with that of MMP-9 (P < 0.05) and VEGF-C (P < 0.05) in gastric adenocarcinomas. Conclusions The expressions of MTA1, MMP-9, and VEGF-C were higher in gastric adenocarcinomas than normal gastric mucosa tissues. They may play an important role in the invasion and metastasis of gastric carcinomas.MTA1 may promote infiltration, invasion, and lymph node metastasis of gastric carcinoma through regulation of the expressions of MMP-9 and VEGF-C.The combined detection of MTA1, MMP-9, and VEGF-C expressions has important value to judge the grade malignance of gastric adenocarcinomas.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the expression of VEGF, MMP-2 and MMP-9 in benign and malignant lesions of breast and their effects on breast carcinoma's invasiveness and metastasis. Methods VEGF,MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression was detected by SP method in 20 breast fibroadenoma and 12 normal breast specimens taken from non-cancerous regions adjacent to breast cancer tissue and 38 breast carcinomas. Results The expression rate of VEGF, MMP-2 and MMP-9 in breast carcinoma was remarkably higher than those in normal breast tissue and breast fibrogdenoma (63.2% vs 25.0% and 30. 0% ,78. 95% vs 33.3% and 35.0% and 71.1% vs 41.7% and 45.0% ,respectively; P <0.05). There was a correlation between VEGF, MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression and nodal metastasis ( P <0.05). High expression of VEGF, MMP-2 and MMP-9 was correlated with pathological grade ( P < 0.05, respectively). The overexpression of VEGF was related with those of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in breast cancer( VEGF and MMP-2:rs =0.541, P <0.01 ;VEGF and M M P-9: rs = 0.11, P < 0.01; MMP-2and M MP-9: rs= 0P < 0.01 ). Conclusion VEGF,MMP-2 and MMP-9 overexpression is strongly related to the invasiveness and metastasis of breast carcinoma, which might be valuable in evaluating tumor invasion and metastasis.
