Resumen Introducción: Los equinoideos irregulares se caracterizan por tener una selección del sustrato en fondos blandos principalmente. En El Salvador se han registrado siete especies de equinoideos irregulares en las principales playas arenosas del país, M. stokesii es una de ellas. Objetivo: Determinar la abundancia, densidad y estructura de tallas, en playones de la bocana del estero El Tamarindo, El Salvador. Métodos: La investigación se realizó en época seca en el oriente del país en playones del estero El Tamarindo que se caracteriza por presentar grandes extensiones de arena mezclada con materia orgánica. En cada sitio, se trazaron transectos en banda paralelos a la costa mediante 9 cuadrantes de 10 m2 separados entre sí por 10 m (área total de 90 m2), en donde se contabilizaron y midieron los individuos de M. stokesii que se encontraran dentro del área delimitada. Resultados: Se contabilizaron 958 individuos de M. stokesii con una densidad total de 10.64 ± 13.22 ind/m2. El rango de tamaños fue de 1-6.5 cm. El hábitat se caracterizó por presentar arena con materia orgánica en los primeros mm del sustrato en compañía de otros invertebrados. Conclusiones: La abundancia y densidad de M. stokesii es similar a la registrada en otros estudios de la región.
Abstract Introduction: Irregular echinoids are characterized by having a selection of the substrate mainly on soft bottoms. In El Salvador, seven species of irregular echinoids have been recorded on the main sandy beaches of the country, M. stokesii is one of them. Objective: Determine the abundance, density and size structure of M. stokesii on beaches at the mouth of the El Tamarindo estuary, El Salvador. Methods: The research was carried out in the dry season in the east of the country on the beaches of the El Tamarindo estuary, which is characterized by large extensions of sand mixed with organic matter. At each site, band transects parallel to the coast were plotted by 9 quadrants of 10 m2 separated from each other by 10 m (total area of 90 m2), where individuals of M. stokesii found within the delimited area were counted and measured. Results: 958 individuals of M. stokesii were counted with a total density of 10.64 ± 13.22 ind/m2. The size range was 1-6.5 cm. The habitat was characterized by presenting sand with organic matter in the first mm of the substrate in the company of other invertebrates. Conclusions: The abundance and density of M. stokesii are similar to the ones recorded in other studies in the region.

Objective To investigate the correlation between Yes-associated protein(YAP)nuclear expression and tumor size with prognosis of patients with epithelial ovarian cancer(EOC)and to study the role of YAP in EOC.Methods 120 patients with EOC were selected as the experimental group,including 38 patients with early stage(Ⅰ+Ⅱ)EOC and 8 2 patients with advanced stage(Ⅲ+Ⅳ)EOC.3 0 normal ovarian tissues obtained from patients with uterine leiomyoma were enrolled as the control group.Immunohistochemical(IHC)assay was em-ployed to determine YAP expression and sub-location.The relationship between YAP expression and the pathologi-cal parameters of the 120 patients with EOC was analyzed,so as to the prognosis of these patients.EOC cells(C13K and OV2008)were cultured with varying initial cell volumes.Ki67 expression and cell proliferation were tested by immunofluorescence and cloning assay respectively.YAP expression at mRNA and protein levels were de-tected by q-PCR and Western blot respectively when the cell conference of EOC cells reached to low(60%)and high(90%)cell density.Results The YAP nuclear expression was significantly higher in the EOC group com-pared to the control group(P<0.05).The average diameter of stage Ⅰ+Ⅱ EOC was larger than that of stage Ⅲ+Ⅳ EOC(P<0.01).The high nuclear expression of YAP was positively associated with pathological grade,clinical stage and the level of Ca125>1 000 IU/ml,while negatively correlated with tumor size(all P<0.05).Survival analyses showed that smaller tumor size(<10 cm)and higher YAP nuclear expression were negatively as-sociated with the 3-year overall survival rate of EOC patients(P<0.01).C13K and OV2008 cells cultured in the low density group exhibited a high number of clone formation,high Ki67 and YAP expression(P<0.01).The down-regulation of YAP expression could decrease the cell viability of EOC cells in the low-and high-density groups(P<0.05).Conclusion Higher level of YAP nuclear expression and smaller tumour size are inversely associated with the clinical prognosis of patients with EOC.Inhibiting YAP nuclear expression leads to a decrease in the prolif-eration capacity of EOC cells.

Objective To construct reference ranges of cardiac size and morphologic parameters in low-risk fetuses at 28-39 gestational weeks using two-dimensional speckle tracking technique.Methods A prospective collection of 453 low-risk singleton pregnancies with echocardiography at Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital,Fudan University was used to assess the size(length,width,and area)and morphology(sphericity index,i.e.,the ratio of length to width)of the fetal four-chamber view and two ventricles using two-dimensional speckle tracking technique.Repeated inter-and intra-observer agreement of measurements was assessed using the intraclass correlation coefficients(ICCs).Statistical analysis of cardiac measurement parameters was performed to establish reference ranges of values for cardiac size and morphology in low-risk fetuses.Results The inter-and intra-group ICCs for reproducibility tests of fetal cardiac parameters measurements were 0.691 to 0.980.Fetal four-chamber view and ventricular size increased with gestational week(all P<0.001),the end-diastolic length of the left ventricle was larger than that of the right ventricle,and the end-diastolic diameter was smaller than that of the right ventricle(both P<0.001),while there was no significant difference in the end-diastolic area of the two ventricles(P= 0.050).The spherical index of four-chamber view did not correlate with gestational week(P=0.811).The sphericity index of the basal and intermediate segments of the left ventricle was greater than that of the right ventricle,and the sphericity index of the apical segment was less than that of the right ventricle,the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.01).Conclusion The two-dimensional speckle tracking technique for measuring fetal cardiac parameters has good reproducibility.The reference ranges for cardiac size and morphology in low-risk fetuses developed in this study will be useful for prenatal evaluation of cardiac remodeling.

Pupil size, as a window into the minds of others, plays a crucial role in social interaction. While previous studies have focused on the influence of non-social factors, such as the physical properties of stimuli, on pupil diameter, recent research has emphasized the significant connection between social information processing and pupil size. In this comprehensive review, we aim to explore how the processing of social stimuli (e.g., face, biological motion) and their emotional characteristics affect pupil size. In essence, pupil size is believed to reflect an individual’s perception of social stimuli. It goes beyond simple physical properties and encompasses the processing of complex social information, including social contexts and interactions. The modulation of pupil size in response to social stimuli is believed to be driven by two key mechanisms: emotional arousal and social attention. When individuals encounter emotionally charged social cues, their pupils tend to dilate, indicating heightened emotional engagement. Similarly, the dilation of pupils when individuals focus on specific social cues suggests an increased allocation of cognitive resources to process relevant social information. Furthermore, the connection between pupil size and social information processing has provided intriguing findings in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Known for their significant social deficits, individuals with ASD exhibited abnormal pupillary responses when presented with social stimuli. These findings raise the possibility of utilizing pupillary responses as a potential index for identifying individuals with ASD at a relatively younger age. Moreover, the incorporation of pupillary response measurements in the diagnosis holds great promise in transcending the limitations of the minimum diagnostic age. This can have important implications both in terms of theoretical understanding and practical applications related to the diagnosis and intervention of ASD.

@#Objective To identify the peak 2 protein on the right side of the main peak of size exclusion chromatograghy-high performance liquid chromatography(SEC-HPLC)in freeze-dried human rabies vaccine(Vero cell)stock solution(without human blood albumin),so as to determine the protein composition of the peak and ensure the vaccine quality.Methods The lyophilized human rabies vaccine(Vero cells)stock solution(without human blood albumin)was analyzed by SECHPLC,of which the peak 2 on the right side of the main peak was collected and concentrated by ultrafiltration,then reduced by dithiothreitol(DTT),alkylated by iodoacetamide (IAM) and hydrolyzed by Trypsin. The products were analyzed by nano LC-MS/MS.Results Four proteins were successfully identified in the right peak 2 of SEC-HPLC main peak in lyophilized human rabies vaccine(Vero cell)stock solution(without human blood albumin),and the number of matching peptides for a single protein ranged from 59 to 79. The number of single protein-matching characteristic peptides ranged from 6 to 12. The detection times of single protein-matching characteristic peptide segments ranged from 20 to 36 times. The sequence coverage of the identified proteins ranged from 37. 40% to 64. 31%. A total of 280 peptides participated in the statistics,and the mass spectrum deviation was less than 0. 15 Da.Conclusion The peak 2 on the right side of SEC-HPLC main peak of lyophilized human rabies vaccine(Vero cell)stock solution(without human blood albumin)is derived from rabies strain 4a GV,which is the vaccine particle dissociation.

@#Objective To elucidate the correlation between radiological tumor size (RTS) and pathological tumor size (PTS), and to evaluate the accuracy of clinical T staging. Methods Data on patients who underwent complete resection between September 2018 and June 2019 were retrospectively collected. The correlation between RTS and PTS was analyzed by and we assessed the agreement between clinical and pathologic T staging. Results Finally, 1 880 patients were included. There were 778 males and 1 102 females at average age of 57±11 years. In the entire cohort, the RTS and PTS was 19.1±13.5 mm and 17.7±14.0 mm, respectively (P<0.001). The RTS and PTS showed a strong linear correlation with the Pearson’s correlation coefficient calculated as 0.897. The mean RTS was significantly larger than PTS (P<0.001) in tumors≤3 cm, but significantly smaller in tumors>4 cm. The overall concordance rate between clinical and pathological T staging was 65.6%. Clinical staging failed to detect T4 disease in 29.4% (5/17) of patients. Male patients and the presence of cavities within nodules were independent significant factors leading to inaccurate clinical T staging. Conclusions The correlation between the tumor sizes measured on thin-section computed tomography and pathologic specimens varies with the real tumor size. Methods and techniques for improving clinical T staging accuracy is in urgent need.

Objective@#To explore the effects of happy physical education based on constructivism on physical education learning burnout, body shape and mental health of college students, so as to provide a reference for the reform of physical education teaching in universities.@*Methods@#By using cluster sampling method, students from two teaching classes of the 2022 physical badminton elective course were enrolled as the research objects at Shanghai Institute of Commerce and Foreign Languages from September to December 2022. They were randomly divided into experimental group ( n =38) and control group ( n =40) by drawing lots. The control group received routine physical education teaching for 16 weeks, with 2 class hours weekly and 45 minutes per class hour. While the experimental group was given happy physical education based on constructivism, with a teaching process of building a framework, independent exploration, collaborative learning, and effect evaluation. The idea was to integrate Happy Sports into badminton technology and tactical training courses, emphasizing the fun of sports activities, and drawing on various forms of sports games when designing sports activities. Two groups of students were tested for body shape, surveyed with the Physical Education Learning Burnout Scale and Symptom Check List-90 (SCL-90). The scores of Physical Education Learning Burnout Scale, body mass index (BMI), waist to hip ratio, body fat rate and SCL-90 were compared between the two groups by t-test, Chi-square test and Fisher s exact probability test.@*Results@#At the end of the semester, BMI [(21.58±1.59,22.30±1.46)kg/m 2], waist to hip ratio (0.75±0.08, 0.79 ±0.07) and body fat rate [(19.77±2.50)%,(21.02±2.46)%] in experimental group were lower than those in control group ( t= -2.09, -2.35, -2.23, P <0.05). The scores of depression (15.10±3.92,17.24±4.18), improper behaviors (13.60±3.05,15.48± 3.52 ) and low sense of achievement (5.52±1.36,6.54±1.42) and total score of Physical Education Learning Burnout Scale ( 34.22± 7.55,39.26±7.86) in experimental group were lower than those in control group ( t=-2.33, -2.52, -3.24, -2.89, P <0.05). The scores of somatization (16.27±3.75,18.57±4.12), interpersonal sensitivity (14.30±4.57,16.85±4.21), depression (17.02±3.89,19.36±4.28) and anxiety (12.68±3.96,15.32±3.87), and total scores of SCL-90 (127.87±22.54,140.54±25.83) in experimental group were lower than those in control group ( t=-2.57, -2.57, -2.52, -3.00, -2.30, P <0.05).@*Conclusions@#The happy physical education mode based on constructivism can alleviate learning burnout, improve mental health and optimize body shape of college students. Appropriate reforms should be made to the teaching mode of physical education in universities to promote the physical and mental health development of college students.

Objective@#To evaluate the clinical efficacy of invisible orthodontic appliances without brackets for the distal movement of maxillary molars to improve the ability of orthodontists to predict treatment outcomes.@*Methods@#Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed, Wanfang Database, CNKI Database, and VIP Database were searched for studies investigating the efficacy of invisible orthodontic appliances for distal movement of maxillary molars in adult patients and published from database inception to August 1, 2023. A total of three researchers screened the studies and evaluated their quality and conducted a meta-analysis of those that met quality standards.@*Results@#This study included 13 pre- and postcontrol trials with a total sample size of 281 patients. The meta-analysis revealed no significant differences in the sagittal or vertical parameters of the jawbone after treatment when compared with those before treatment (P>0.05). The displacement of the first molar was MD=-2.34, 95% CI (-2.83, -1.85); the displacement was MD=-0.95, 95% CI (-1.34, -0.56); and the inclination was MD=-2.51, 95% CI (-3.56, -1.46). There was a statistically significant difference in the change in sagittal, vertical, and axial tilt of the first molar before and after treatment. After treatment, the average adduction distance of the incisors was MD=-0.82, 95% CI (-1.54, -0.09), and the decrease in lip inclination was MD=-1.61, 95% CI (-2.86, -0.36); these values were significantly different from those before treatment (P<0.05).@*Conclusion@#Invisible orthodontic appliances can effectively move the upper molars in a distal direction and control the vertical position of the molars. When the molars move further away, there is some degree of compression and distal tilt movement, which is beneficial for patients with high angles. The sagittal movement of incisors is beneficial for improving the patient's profile.

BACKGROUND:The repair and clinical outcome of bone defects remains a hot and difficult area of clinical research,which is a common problem that plagues clinicians.Constructing suitable,reproducible and infinitely close to clinical animal experimental models and their scientific evaluation are essential for further clinical treatment of related diseases. OBJECTIVE:To retrospectively analyze the preparation methods and characteristics of common animal models of femoral bone defects and to assess their strengths and weaknesses,thereby providing some reference for relevant researchers to select appropriate animal models of femoral bone defects. METHODS:PubMed,Web of Science,Medline,and CNKI were retrieved for relevant literature published from January 1,2000 to August 1,2022.The keywords were"bone defect,bone,bones,defect,defects,defective,animal model,animal,model,laboratory,laboratory animal,animal laboratory"in English and"bone defect,animal model,experiment"in Chinese. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Twenty-seven randomized controlled animal experiments involving rats,mice,New Zealand rabbits,and sheep were included,analyzed and assessed.The most common types of bone defects were cylindrical bone defects and segmental osteotomy bone defects,generally found in the middle and distal femur.These models are mostly used to evaluate the effects of bone repair materials,drugs,drug-loaded active substances and physical therapy on bone defect repair and explore defect healing mechanisms,particularly the weight-bearing bone defect repair mechanism.Different defect kinds and femoral bone defect ranges have been found in different animal experiments.Researchers can select the suitable animal model and bone defect type based on the goal of the experiment and then set an acceptable bone defect value.Current studies have shown that cylindrical and segmental osteotomy-induced bone defects,mainly in the distal and middle femur,are mostly used in the animal models of femoral bone defects and that the surgical methods and postoperative management are more mature and operable to provide mature experimental animal models.In terms of cylindrical bone defects,rats and New Zealand rabbits are more suitable,whereas segmental osteotomy has no special requirements and all types of animals can meet the experimental requirements.

BACKGROUND:Artificial intelligence planning system can automatically establish a three-dimensional model and generate planning schemes,but its accuracy in predicting the prosthesis size has not been fully verified. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the accuracy of artificial intelligence planning system in predicting prosthesis size before total hip arthroplasty and its influence on clinical prognosis,and further analyze the risk factors affecting the accuracy of planning. METHODS:Clinical data of patients with unilateral initial total hip arthroplasty who were admitted to the Department of Orthopedics of Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from January 2021 to June 2022 were prospectively collected.The patients were randomly divided into the artificial intelligence planning system group(n=80)and the conventional template group(n=79).Intraoperative use of prostheses and preoperative planning of prosthesis matching were compared between the two groups.Postoperative follow-up Harris scores and the occurrence of complications such as leg length discrepancy,dislocation and prosthesis loosening were recorded in both groups.The effects of demographic indicators,preoperative diagnosis,and Dorr typing on the accuracy of femoral stem planning were explored using univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analyses. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)The prediction of the prosthesis size on the acetabular side and femoral side was 50%(40/80)and 55%(44/80)in the artificial intelligence planning system group,compared to 34%(27/79)and 37%(29/79)in the conventional template group,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).(2)The artificial intelligence planning system group had an accuracy rate within one size difference for the acetabular and femoral side prostheses of 91%(73/80)and 86%(69/80),compared to 82%(65/79)and 72%(58/79)in the conventional template group,with differences statistically different only on the femoral side(P<0.05).(3)No dislocation or prosthesis loosening occurred in the two groups during postoperative follow-up.The difference in lower limb length between the artificial intelligence planning system and conventional template groups was(3.56±2.32)mm and(3.52±2.41)mm.At the last follow-up,the Harris scores of the artificial intelligence planning system and conventional template groups were(92.74±3.08)and(91.81±3.52),respectively;there was no significant difference in the above differences(P>0.05).(4)Univariate analysis results showed that preoperative diagnosis as developmental dysplasia of the hip and osteonecrosis of the femoral head,and Dorr type B and C femurs had a significant effect on the accuracy of predicted prosthesis size using an artificial intelligence planning system(P<0.05).(5)Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that preoperative diagnosis of developmental dysplasia of the hip(OR=18.233,95%CI:2.662-124.888)was an independent risk factor for the prediction of femoral stem size by artificial intelligence planning system.(6)The artificial intelligence planning system has a higher accuracy in predicting prosthetic size than traditional two-dimensional templates,and there is not a significant difference in the risk of postoperative complications or joint function.The accuracy of the artificial intelligence planning system in patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip was low due to anatomical deformities and acetabular anatomical position reconstruction.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Aortic valve replacement (AVR) is often recommended for patients with severe aortic stenosis or chronic aortic regurgitation. These conditions result in remodeling of the left ventricle, including increased interstitial fibrosis that may persist even after AVR. These structural changes impact left ventricular (LV) mechanics, causing compromised LV diameter to occur earlier than reduced LV ejection fraction (LVEF). The aim of this study was to examine the effect of left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD) and its role in aortic expansion one year after AVR. Methods: Sixty-three patients who underwent AVR were evaluated. All patients underwent standard transthoracic echocardiography, which included measurements of the ascending aorta, aortic root, LVEF, and LVEDD before the surgery and one year postoperatively. Correlations between these variables were calculated. Results: All patients underwent AVR with either a mechanical or biological prosthetic aortic valve. Following AVR, there was a significant decrease in the dimensions of the ascending aorta and aortic root (both P=0.001). However, no significant changes were observed in LVEDD and LVEF. Correlations were found between the preoperative ascending aortic size and the preoperative and one-year postoperative LVEDD (r=0.419, P=0.001 and r=0.320, P=0.314, respectively). Additionally, there was a correlation between the postoperative ascending aortic size and the preoperative and one-year postoperative LVEDD (r=0.320, P=0.003 and r=0.136, P=0.335, respectively). Conclusion: The study findings demonstrate a significant correlation between the size of the aortic root and ascending aorta, before and after AVR. Additionally, a notable correlation was observed between postoperative LVEDD and the size of the aortic root.

Abstract Background To illustrate how (standardised) effect sizes (ES) vary based on calculation method and to provide considerations for improved reporting. Methods Data from three trials of tanezumab in subjects with osteoarthritis were analyzed. ES of tanezumab versus comparator for WOMAC Pain (outcome) was defined as least squares difference between means (mixed model for repeated measures analysis) divided by a pooled standard deviation (SD) of outcome scores. Three approaches to computing the SD were evaluated: Baseline (the pooled SD of WOMAC Pain values at baseline [pooled across treatments]); Endpoint (the pooled SD of these values at the time primary endpoints were assessed); and Median (the median pooled SD of these values based on the pooled SDs across available timepoints). Bootstrap analyses were used to compute 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results ES (95% CI) of tanezumab 2.5 mg based on Baseline, Endpoint, and Median SDs in one study were - 0.416 (- 0.796, - 0.060), - 0.195 (- 0.371, - 0.028), and - 0.196 (- 0.373, - 0.028), respectively; negative values indicate pain improvement. This pattern of ES differences (largest with Baseline SD, smallest with Endpoint SD, Median SD similar to Endpoint SD) was consistent across all studies and doses of tanezumab. Conclusion Differences in ES affect interpretation of treatment effect. Therefore, we advocate clearly reporting individual elements of ES in addition to its overall calculation. This is particularly important when ES estimates are used to determine sample sizes for clinical trials, as larger ES will lead to smaller sample sizes and potentially underpowered studies. ABSTRACT One of the tools used to investigate the influence of environmental contaminants and other stresses on the development of organisms is the analysis of morphometric traits used to detect changes in growth and size patterns. To evaluate the effects of the heavy metal lead (Pb) present in experimentally contaminated soil on the morphometric traits of the aphid Brevicoryne brassicae (L.) reared on cultivated Brassica oleracea L. (var. acephala), we analyzed three different metrics: morphometry, allometry, and fluctuating asymmetry (FA). Additionally, we aimed to assess the effectiveness of these analyses in detecting environmental stress. We cultivated kale plants in soil contaminated with the maximum allowable limit of Pb for local soils in Brazil, and the colonization of plants by aphids occurred naturally under field conditions. After collection, we photographed and measured the antennae, tibiae, and total body length of aphids from the control and contaminated treatments. We observed no significant differences in the allometry and morphometric analysis, and the presence of the contaminant did not result in any observed FA. The study demonstrated that the morphometric trait analyses employed were not effective in detecting environmental stress resulting from field exposure of aphids to Pb in soil, since these insects suffered a reduction in their population density in the presence of Pb, as indicated in our previous findings. This result diverges from those found in studies conducted under laboratory conditions. We discussed mechanisms of metal accumulation, detoxification in aphids, and population aspects in natural conditions.

ABSTRACT Objective: This study aimed to evaluate whether severity changes with colposcopic lesion size, regardless of age. Methods: This retrospective comparative study reviewed the records of 428 women with altered cytopathology reports who were directed by primary health care. Only those women with colposcopic alterations were evaluated (n=411). Histopathological analyses were restricted to patients who underwent excisional treatment (n=345). According to their age, they were grouped into the following: <21, 21-24, 25-35, and >35 years, and also, ≤24 and ≥25 years. The cytopathological, colposcopic, and histopathological findings were grouped according to severity. Lesion size was subjectively assessed from the colposcopic drawing recorded in the chart and according to the number of quadrants of the total cervical surface affected by colposcopic alterations in the transformation zone. Statistical significance was set at p<0.05. Results: The evaluations suggested that the lesion size was directly related to the severity of the cytopathology, colposcopy, and histopathology reports for the age groups ≤24 or ≥25 years. We observed associations between lesion size and severity of the cytopathology (≤24 years, p=0.037) and histopathology (≥25 years, p=0.003) findings. Conclusion: The size of the lesion was directly related to the severity of the histopathological lesion in patients aged ≥25 years and cytopathological in patients aged ≤24 years.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Perfusion safety in cardiac surgery is vital, and this survey explores perfusion practices, perspectives, and challenges related to it. Specifically, it examines the readiness of on-call and emergency operation rooms for perfusion-related procedures during urgent situations. The aim is to identify gaps and enhance perfusion safety protocols, ultimately improving patient care. Methods: This was a preliminary survey conducted as an initial exploration before committing to a comprehensive study. The sample size was primarily determined based on a one-month time frame. The survey collected data from 236 healthcare professionals, including cardiac surgeons, perfusionists, and anesthetists, using an online platform. Ethical considerations ensured participant anonymity and voluntary participation. The survey comprised multiple-choice and open-ended questions to gather quantitative and qualitative data. Results: The survey found that 53% preferred a dry circuit ready for emergencies, 19.9% preferred primed circuits, and 19.1% chose not to have a ready pump at all. Various reasons influenced these choices, including caseload variations, response times, historical practices, surgeon preferences, and backup perfusionist availability. Infection risk, concerns about error, and team dynamics were additional factors affecting circuit readiness. Conclusion: This survey sheds light on current perfusion practices and challenges, emphasizing the importance of standardized protocols in regards to readiness of on-call and emergency operation rooms. It provides valuable insights for advancing perfusion safety and patient care while contributing to the existing literature on the subject.

Introdução: Tradicionalmente, o rebaixamento do dorso é o único método de correção da giba. Raras séries apontam a elevação do radix como possível solução. O que explica essa maciça predominância do procedimento redutor? Ineficácia dos métodos de aumento de radix e ponta? Percepção de nariz grande com os procedimentos de aumento? Nossos objetivos são descobrir se a percepção de redução ocorre na rinoplastia não cirúrgica (RNC), feita exclusivamente com adição de volume, e se a percepção de redução é importante na RNC. Método: Análise retrospectiva de 116 pacientes consecutivos submetidos a RNC. As imagens dos pacientes foram analisadas por 12 observadores independentes que avaliaram as mudanças percebidas no tamanho do nariz e a qualidade da correção, dando notas de 1 a 10 para os dois quesitos. Quanto ao tamanho, 1 representava muito menor que antes, 5 mesmo tamanho (neutralidade) e 10 muito maior que antes. A qualidade da correção foi classificada de 1 a 10. Resultados: 92 casos (79%) foram percebidos como redução do tamanho, enquanto 20 casos (17%) foram percebidos como aumento. Houve percepção de redução na média das pontuações de tamanho (4,71). A média da qualidade da correção foi de 8,28 na escala de 1 a 10. Ademais, nossos resultados sugerem que pode haver correlação indireta entre a percepção do tamanho e a qualidade da correção. Conclusão: O aumento proporcionado pela RNC pode causar percepção de redução do tamanho do nariz, e o grau da redução percebida pode estar diretamente relacionado ao grau de qualidade percebida da correção.
Introduction: Traditionally, lowering the dorsum is the only method of hump correction. Rare series point to raising the radix as a possible solution. What explains this massive predominance of the reduction procedure? Ineffectiveness of radix and tip augmentation methods? Big nose perception with augmentation procedures? Our objectives are to determine if the perception of reduction occurs in non-surgical rhinoplasty (NSR), performed exclusively with volume addition, and if the perception of reduction is important in NSR. Method: Retrospective analysis of 116 consecutive patients undergoing NSR. The patients' images were analyzed by 12 independent observers who evaluated the perceived changes in the nose's size and the correction's quality, giving scores from 1 to 10 for both questions. As for size, 1 represented much smaller than before, 5 same size (neutrality), and 10 much larger than before. The quality of correction was graded from 1 to 10. Results: 92 cases (79%) were considered size reduction, while 20 cases (17%) were considered enlargement. There was a perception of a reduction in the average size scores (4.71). The mean correction quality was 8.28 on a scale of 1 to 10. Furthermore, our results suggest that there may be an indirect correlation between perceived size and correction quality. Conclusion: The increase provided by the NSR can cause a perception of a reduction in the size of the nose, and the degree of perceived reduction can be directly related to the degree of perceived quality of the correction.

This article addresses the essential principles for sample size estimation in quantitative studies of rehabilitation sciences and human movement. In addition, it provides a practical and accessible guide on the design of rigorous investigations, addressing key concepts such as precision, confidence level, significance level and statistical power, essential to obtain valid and reliable results. It also explores how these parameters influence the generalization of findings and the detection of significant differences, as well as the importance of an adequate sample size for future researchers to improve the quality of their studies in the fields of rehabilitation and human movement.

Background: Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Worldwide interest in geriatric depression has increased but studies to assess the depression among the elderly population in urban slums has hardly been done. So this study would shed light on the risk factors of depression among geriatrics in urban slums. Aim & Objective: To study the epidemiological determinants such as age, marital status, education, financial dependency, economic status and chronic illness in relation to of depression among the geriatric population (60–80 years). Settings and Design: Community-based, cross-sectional study for 24 months with a samplesize of 209. Methods & Material: Urban slum area represented by one health post was selectedas the study area which caters to around 96,630 slum residents. Pre-tested semi-structuredinterviews were conducted after selecting households by systematic random sampling. Statistical analysis: Data was analyzed using SPSS version 21. A chi-square test was applied. Result: The present study shows overall prevalence of depression among the elderly above 60 years of age to be 48.6%. Depression is found to been significantly associated with an increase in age, living alone (72.7%), lower class economic status (100%), financial dependency (54%), history of chronic family illness (54.7%) and with no formal education (62.1%) among elderly dwelling in slums. Conclusions: There is a high prevalence of depression in the community and hence, a need to sensitize Primary level Health Care Services to institute screening tests considering the association of these determinants with depression and link them to specialized services for further management.

Introduction: Pre-hypertension is a borderline health state of increased blood pressure (BP) that falls short of the measurable parameters at which surveillance and/or therapy would be required. The approach of identifying people “At Risk” of developing hypertension can be more cost-effective and feasible for applying lifestyle interventions. Objectives: The objective of the present study is to find the prevalence of pre-hypertensives and associated bio-socio-demographic factors Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1946 participants aged 19 years and more in the Doiwala block of Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Multistage sampling was used to arrive at desired sample size. A pre-validated, structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The questionnaire included information on the socio-demographic profile (age, sex, education etc.), awareness about hypertension and its associated risk factors. Statistical Analysis: The chi-square test was used to compare proportions and draw inferences. Results: 958 (49.2%) study participants out of a total 1946 were found to be pre-hypertensives. A statistically significant association was found between pre-hypertension and factors such as male gender, age, education, occupation and waist-hip ratio. (p<0.05) Conclusion: It is recommended that identification on the pre-hypertensive group and subjecting them to lifestyle modification could be a fruitful strategy for preventing them from becoming hypertensive.

Appropriate size selection of double?lumen tubes (DLTs) for one?lung ventilation (OLV) in adults is still a humongous task. Several important factors are to be considered like patient height, gender, tracheal diameter, left main bronchial diameter, and cricoid cartilage transverse diameter. In addition to radiological assessment of the airway diameters, the manufacturing details of the particular DLT being used also play a significant role in size selection. Optimal positioning of the appropriately sized DLT is indispensable to avoid complications like airway trauma, cuff rupture, hypoxemia, and tube displacement. It is imperative to know whether the one?size?fits?all dictum holds for DLT size selection as claimed by certain studies. Further randomized studies are required for crystallizing standard protocols ascertaining the correct DLT size. This systematic review article highlights the various parameters employed for DLT size selection and explores the newer DLTs used for adult OLV.
