ABSTRACT

[Objective] To investigate the effect of Biejia Jian Decoction on serum transforming growth factor ?1 (TGF-pl) , tumor necrosis factor a (TNF-?), lipid peroxidation ( LPO) and superoxide dismutase ( SOD) in patients with hepatic fibrosis (HF) induced by chronic hepatitis B. Its effect was compared with lamivudine. [Methods] Fifty-three cases of HF were randomized to two groups: group A (n = 27) was treated with Biejia Jian Decoction and group B ( n -26) with lamivudine for oral use. Twenty volunteers served as the normal controls (group C) . Serum levels of TGF-?1, TNF-?, LPO and SOD were observed before and after treatment. [Results] After treatment, serum levels of TGF-?1 and TNF-a were decreased markedly in group A (P 0.05) . Serum LPO level was lower and SOD level higher in groups A and B than those in group C before treatment ( P 0.05) but the level in group B differed from that of groups A and C (P 0.05) but the level in group B did not decrease and differed from that of groups A and C ( P

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To explore the mechanism of fever in damp- heat syndrome. [Methods] Hyperlipemia rabbit models were established by feeding fatty - sweet diet. After the injection of endotoxin, the secretion of tumor necrosis factor and interleukin 1 was observed in rabbit model (Group A) and compared with normal rabbits (Group B) . [ Results] The peak of tumor necrosis factor and interleukin 1 secretion was decreased and the decline was slow in Group A. [ Conclusion ] The damp - heat syndrome in seasonal febrile disease is not merely a simple addition of damp and heat, but a result of retention and interaction of the two factors.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the systemic stress responses of laparoscopic cholecystectomy(LC). Methods Seventy patients with cholecystolithiasis were randomly divided into two groups: LC and open cholecystectomy(OC). Peripheral blood samples were obtained during the preoperative day and 1, 3, 5, 7 day after operation. Serum cytokines levels (TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6) and C-reactive protein(CRP) were measured. Results Changes of TNF-α and IL-1β before or after surgery in both groups showed no significant difference(P>0.05). Serum concentrations of IL-6 and CRP after surgery in both groups were significantly higher than those before surgery(P<0.05); but there were no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05). Conclusions The systemic stress responses of LC have no significant difference comparing with OC.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To observe the preventive effect and mechanism of heat-clearing and toxicity-removing therapy for the treatment of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), and to explore the relationship of ACS with inflammation. [Methods] Fifty five ACS patients were randomized into 2 groups:41 patients in group A were treated with Sanhuang Tablets (mainly composed of Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, Radix Scutellariae and Rhizoma Coptidis) p.o., 4 tablets one time, twice a day, and a routine treatment for anticoagulation, anti-platelet aggregation and anti-myocardial ischemia; 14 patients in group B were given routine treatment for anticoagulation, anti-platelet aggregation and anti-myocardial ischemia. The treatment course lasted 2 weeks. After treatment, improvement in symptoms such as chest pain, chest distension, short breath, palpitation, fever, spontaneous sweating, insomnia, lassitude, aversion to cold and cold limbs was compared between group A and group B by scoring method. Meanwhile, inflammatory indicators in the two groups were also observed before and after treatment. [Results] The decrease in symptom scores, as well as the decrease in blood C-reactive protein (CRP) , tumor necrosis factor a (TNF-?) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) , was obvious in group A than that in group B (P

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To observe the effect of Jiedu Lifei Oral Liquid (JLOL, mainly composed of Flos Lonicerae,Fructus Forsythiae, Radix Scutellariae, Bulbus Frityllariae, etc. ) on the immune function in mice with viral pniumonia.[Methods] Sixty mice were randomized into 5 groups: normal group (A), model group (B), virazole group (C), small-dose JLOL group (D) and large-dose JLOL group (E). Mouse models of viral pheumonia were induced by infection ofinfluenza virus FM1. Effects of JLOL on serum levels of interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-2 (IL-2), tumor necrosisfactor ? (TNF-?) and interferon ? (IFN-?) were observed. [Results] Compared with normal group, serum levels of IL-1 and (IFN-? were decreased and TNF-? increased (P 0.05 ) in model group. After treatment wth JLOL, serum levels of IL-2 and IFN-? were increased , TNF-? decreased (P 0.05). [ Conclusion] JLOL can increase the immune function by increasing the serumlevels of IL2 and IFN-? and can reduce the immune impairment by inhibiting the over production of TNF-?.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effect of Tongfu Xiere Recipe (TXP) combined with routine treatment on cytokine level in patients with acute lung injury due to surgery disease of chest. Methods Fifty eight patients with acute lung injury due to surgery disease of chest were randomized into two groups. The two groups received routine treatment subjecting to the Guideline (2006) for Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute Lung Injury/Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. The treatment group additionally received TXP (mainly composed of Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, Natrii Sulfas, Fructus Gardeniae, Caulis Lonicerae, Herba Taraxaci, Semen Raphani, Semen Lepidii seu Descurainiae, Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati, Radix Paeoniae Rubra, Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, and Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis) for 5 days or till oxygenation index recovered to the normal. The therapeutic effect was evaluated after treatment, and the changes of blood tumor necrosis factor ? (TNF-?), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and interleukin 8 (IL-8) levels were observed before and after treatment. Results The serum levels of TNF-?, IL-6 and IL-8 in the two groups after treatment were decreased (P0.05). Conclusion The therapeutic effect of traditional Chinese medicine integrated with western medicine is superior to the western medicine only for acute lung injury due to surgery disease of chest. TXP can regulate the immune function and relieve the pulmonary inflammation and injury by decreasing the blood levels of TNF-?, IL-6 and IL-8, thus enhance the therapeutic effect of western medicine.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To discuss the effect of intestine-dredging and Qi-benefiting method and its corresponding prescription in managing systemic inflammatory response and preventing multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). [Methods] Eighty. SD rats were randomized to control, model, low-dosage (LD) and high-dosage (HD) groups. One day before modeling, HD and LD groups were administered the preparation based on intestine-dredging and Qi-benefiting method by 60g/kg and 30 g/kg for 2 times, and control and model groups were given equal amounts of normal saline. On the 2nd day after the administration, 3 groups except the control group were modeled on the given reference. Twelve hours after modeling, the content of TNF-? and NO in serum was examined and histopathological examination of the main organs was conducted. [Results] Compared with the control group, the level of TNF-? and NO significantly increased (P

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the changes of tumor necrosis factor-?(TNF-?) and platelet-derived growth factor(PDGF) in gallbladder carcinoma (GA) patients with cell wall-deficient bacleria(L-form) infection .Methods The levels of TNF-? in gallbladder mucosa were detected by radioimmunoassay and the activity of PDGF was detected by bioactivity assay in patients with GA or cholecystitis and normal gallbladder(control group). Results The positive detection rates of L-forms in gallbladder mucosa of gallbladder carcinoma , chronic cholecystitis, and control group were 80.0%(16/20),82.5%(33/40) and 0(0/20), respectively. The TNF-? and PDGF levels in patients with L-form infection-positive gallbladder carcinoma were significantly higher than those in patients without L-form infection and in control group. The levels of TNF-a and PDGF in patients with L-form infection positive chronic cholecystitis were significantly higher than those in patients without L-form infection and in control group. Conclusions L-form may be one of the direct factors leading to the increase in PDGF during gallbladder oncogenesis, and there is positive correlation between PDGF and gallbladder oncogenesis when L-form induces inflammatory reaction and predisposes gallbladder mucosa to develope neoplasms.

ABSTRACT

0.05). RFA showed a marked short term therapeutic effect for patients with PHC.Conclusions After RFA treatment of patients with PHC,the serum levels of TNF and AFP decreased, and this suggests an augmentation of organism immune function. The serum levels of TNF and AFP can assist in the assessment of the therapeutic effect and prognosis of primary hepatic carcinoma.
