ABSTRACT
Objective To observe the intervention efficacy of Tiao Ren Tong Du (regulating the Conception Vessel and unblocking the Governor Vessel) needling in treating perimenopausal insomnia and its effect in improving the symptoms, for providing theoretical evidence for the treatment of perimenopausal insomnia. Method A total of 72 female perimenopausal insomnia patients were randomized into a treatment group (36 cases) and a control group (36 cases). The treatment group was intervened by Tiao Ren Tong Du needling at Baihui (GV20), Shenting (GV24), Yintang (EX-HN3), Zhongwan (CV12), Qihai (CV6), Guanyuan (CV4), Neiguan (PC6), Shenmen (HT7), Sanyinjiao (SP6), and Zusanli (ST36) after standard sterilization, with lifting and thrusting manipulations until needling sensation was obtained. The treatment was given three times a week, successively for 4 weeks. The control group was intervened by conventional public education, without treatment. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Kupperman Menopausal Index (MI) were scored before and after the treatment to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy. Result Thirty-three cases in the treatment group finished the treatment and 3 dropped out; while 32 cases in the control group finished the treatment and 4 cases dropped out, and the drop-out rate was 9.7%. The total effective rate was 87.9% in the treatment group versus 40.6% in the control group, and there was a significant difference in comparing the clinical efficacy between the two groups (P0.05). There were significant differences in PSQI and MI scores between the two groups after the treatment (P<0.01,P<0.05). Conclusion Tiao Ren Tong Du needling is effective in treating perimenopausal insomnia, and it can improve perimenopausal syndrome and significantly enhance the patients' quality of life.
ABSTRACT
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Tiao Ren Tong Du (regulating the Conception Vessel and unblocking the Governor Vessel) needling method plus bloodletting at the Jing-well points in treating post-stroke spastic state. Method Sixty-seven eligible patients were randomized into a group to receive Tiao Ren Tong Du needling plus bloodletting at the Jing-well points (treatment group) and a rehabilitation group (control group). For the two groups, the treatment was given once a day, 6 times as a treatment course, for 4 courses in total. The Modified Ashworth Scale was used to evaluate the spasticity intensity, and the Patient Reported Outcome (PRO) for post-stroke spastic hemiplegia was used to measure the patients from the following four aspects:subjective symptoms, objective symptoms, mental state, and social function. Result After intervention, the scores of spasticity, and physiological, mental, social, and environmental factors were significantly improved in both groups (P<0.01,P<0.05). Compared to rehabilitation, Tiao Ren Tong Du needling plus bloodletting at Jing-well points can more significantly release the muscular spasticity and reduce the PRO score (P<0.01). The recovery plus markedly-effective rate was 70.6% in the treatment group versus 42.4% in the control group. Conclusion Tiao Ren Tong Du needling plus bloodletting at Jing-well points can effectively improve post-stroke spastic state and the quality of life.
ABSTRACT
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Tiao Ren Tong Du (regulating the Conception Vessel and unblocking the Governor Vessel) needling method in treating post-stroke insomnia and the change of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) after treatment, and to discuss the effect of this needling method on post-stroke insomnia. Method Ninety post-stroke patients were randomized into a treatment group, a control group and a Western medicine group. For the treatment group, points from the Conception and Governor Vessels were selected as the major points; for the control group, conventional needling method was adopted; for the Western medicine group, Zopiclone was prescribed. After intervention, the clinical efficacies and PSQI scores were investigated and compared. Result After intervention, the effective rates of the three groups were equivalent (P>0.05), the recovery rate of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control groups (P0.05); in the Western medicine group, the one-month follow-up showed significant difference in PSQI score compared to that right after the intervention (P<0.05); in the control group, there was a significant difference in PSQI score between the one-month follow-up and 3-month follow-up results (P<0.05). Conclusion The clinical efficacies of acupuncture methods and oral administration of Zopiclone are equivalent in treating post-stroke insomnia, but Tiao Ren Tong Du needling method can produce a higher recovery rate and better long-term efficacy.
