ABSTRACT

Abstract Introduction: Leptodactylus latinasus and Physalaemus cuqui are sympatric anuran species with similar environmental requirements and contrasting reproductive modes. Climatic configuration determines distribution patterns and promotes sympatry of environmental niches, but specificity/selectivity determines the success of reproductive modes. Species distribution models (SDM) are a valuable tool to predict spatio-temporal distributions based on the extrapolation of environmental predictors. Objectives: To determine the spatio-temporal distribution of environmental niches and assess whether the protected areas of the World Database of Protected Areas (WDPA) allow the conservation of these species in the current scenario and future. Methods: We applied different algorithms to predict the distribution and spatio-temporal overlap of environmental niches of L. latinasus and P. cuqui within South America in the last glacial maximum (LGM), middle-Holocene, current and future scenarios. We assess the conservation status of both species with the WDPA conservation units. Results: All applied algorithms showed high performance for both species (TSS = 0.87, AUC = 0.95). The L. latinasus predictions showed wide environmental niches from LGM to the current scenario (49 % stable niches, 37 % gained niches, and 13 % lost niches), suggesting historical fidelity to stable climatic-environmental regions. In the current-future transition, L. latinasus would increase the number of stable (70 %) and lost (20 %) niches, suggesting fidelity to lowland regions and a possible trend toward microendemism. P. cuqui loses environmental niches from the LGM to the current scenario (25 %) and in the current-future transition (63 %), increasing the environmental sympathy between both species; 31 % spatial overlap in the current scenario and 70 % in the future. Conclusion: Extreme drought events and rainfall variations, derived from climate change, suggest the loss of environmental niches for these species that are not currently threatened but are not adequately protected by conservation units. The loss of environmental niches increases spatial sympatry which represents a new challenge for anurans and the conservation of their populations.

ABSTRACT

The classroom motivational climate (CMC) is a construct that allows studying the patterns of teaching performance in the classroom and their relationship with student motivation. Based on the importance of CMC for teaching and learning environments, a systematic review was conducted with the aim of synthesizing the evidence from Ibero-American studies in secondary and higher education during the period 1992-2023. The methodological guidelines defined in the PRISMA statement were used, which allowed the selection of 51 articles that met the eligibility criteria. The results reveal a prevalence of quantitative studies (90 %) in secondary education (65 %). Nine instruments were identified for the CMC study and the CMC-Q was found to be the most commonly used instrument. The Analysis of the studies indicates that there is a moderate common explained variance between the CMC and personal psychological variables of students and teachers, but low with respect to student academic performance. The reported findings are in the same direction as the evidence available in other regions worldwide. It is suggested to move towards a multidimensional understanding of CMC, triangulation of participants, techniques and methods, as well as additional studies that integrate CMC as a measure of effectiveness in educational interventions.

ABSTRACT Objective: To determine the correlation between the organizational climate, job satisfaction and burnout in the administrative staff of the Daniel Alcides Carrión National University. Methodology: The research was designed as a quantitative study applied with a correlational approach. A cross-sectional non-experimental design was used, since the measurements of the variables were made at a single time. The study population corresponded to a total of430 employees of the Daniel Alcides Carrión National University, which is why a simple random sampling was applied, with a confidence level of 95 % and a margin of error of 5 %, which allowed to determine a sample of 157 employees. For data collection, the survey technique was applied, therefore, three questionnaires were designed as instruments, one for each variable, with a Likert-type response scale. In the case of the Organizational Climate variable, this was based on three dimensions, namely: a) Recognition, b) Teamwork and c) Innovation, which helped to configure a total of 15 items to be evaluated. For the Job Satisfaction variable, it was based on three dimensions, which were: a) Job satisfaction, b) Satisfaction with remuneration and c) Satisfaction with the physical environment, constituting in turn 15 items to be evaluated, while for the Burnout variable, three dimensions were considered: a) Personal exhaustion, b) Depersonalization and c) Demotivation, for a total of 15 items to be evaluated. The questionnaires were subjected to a validity process according to the opinion of experts, who considered that they were suitable in their construction for application, in addition a pilot test was applied with a sample of 85participants, who were not part of the one included in the study, which allowed to determine that these instruments had an internal consistency of Cronbachs Alpha of0.97, 0.95 and 0.89 for the organizational climate, job satisfaction and burnout variables respectively. The data were systematized in an Excel spreadsheet to perform the descriptive statistical analysis, using measures of central tendency to check the frequency and behavior of the variables. Then, the SPSS version 22 program was used to perform inferential statistical calculations. the distribution of the normality of the data was statistically verified using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, since the number of the sample was greater than fifty. For the determination of the correlation between the variables, the Spearman rank correlation coefficient was used, because the sample presented a non-normal distribution. The significance of the correlation was established by a level of p<0.05 for hypothesis testing. Results: The results showed that between the Organizational climate variable and the Recognition dimension there is an average level of satisfaction (61.14 %), 35.67 % showed a high level of satisfaction and 3.19 % a very high level of satisfaction. Between the Organizational climate and the Teamwork dimension, a result of 2.23 was obtained, which indicates a perception that there is good teamwork. Regarding the Organizational climate and Innovation, it was found that 52.23 % of employees almost alwaysfeel stimulated to innovate, 33.12 % always feel motivated to innovate and 14.6 5 % sometimes feel that motivation. With respect to the variable Job Satisfaction and the dimension satisfaction with work, it was obtained that 60.5 % feel indifferent with respect to job satisfaction and 39.5 % are satisfied. For the Satisfaction with Remuneration dimension, 36.4 % of employees feel indifferent about their remuneration, 39.8 % feel satisfied and 13.1 % feel very satisfied with their remuneration. Regarding the dimension Satisfaction with the physical environment, 38.8 % declared themselves indifferent with respect to this dimension, 23.2 %o feel satisfied and 0.8 % of the samplefeel very satisfied with the physical environment. With respect to the Burnout variable and the Personal exhaustion dimension, 47.13 % of the employees presented a high level of personal burnout, 33.12 % revealed to have an average level of burnout and 19.75% showed a very high level of burnout. As for the aspect of Depersonalization, the results showed that the majority represented by 85.35% has a very high level of depersonalization, only 0.64 % presented a high level of depersonalization and 14.01 % presented an average level of depersonalization. As for the Demotivation dimension, it was obtained that 30.57 % of employees showed an average level of demotivation, while 69.43 % of workers showed a high level. Finally, the results revealed a positive and significant correlation (Spearman's Rho = 0.299) between organizational climate and job satisfaction. Likewise, a weak negative correlation (-0.153) was observed between organizational climate and burnout. In relation to the organizational climate and burnout variables, a weak negative correlation was observed with a coefficient of-0.153. While for the variables job satisfaction and burnout, a correlation coefficient of-0.024 was observed very close to zero. Conclusion: There is a positive and significant correlation between organizational climate and job satisfaction, and a negative and significant correlation between organizational climate and burnout, suggesting that a better organizational climate is associated with higher satisfaction and lower burnout in workers. This relationship highlights the importance of promoting a positive and conducive work environment to improve the job satisfaction of administrative staff. The need to focus on recognition as an essential component to promote greater job satisfaction is highlighted, it is also observed that teamwork and innovation are key aspects that contribute to the favorable organizational climate at the university. These conclusions emphasize the importance of implementing policies and practices that promote recognition, teamwork and the promotion of innovation as strategies to improve job satisfaction and prevent burnout in administrative staff. It is also highlighted that at higher levels of organizational climate, lower levels of administrative staff are observed, which is why it is important to create a healthy work environment and support the emotional well-being of employees to prevent job burnout. Ultimately, the relationship between organizational climate, job satisfaction and burnout are a multidimensional dynamic that requires a holistic approach. By continuing to research and apply effective approaches to improving the work climate, organizations can cultivate an environment where employees feel valued, motivated, and able to contribute meaningfully. Doingso will not only benefit the workers and the organization, but also set a higher standardfor well-being in the overall work environment.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Introduction: the postgraduate educational climate (CE) in the hospital environment can determine the way in which resident physicians (MRs) adapt to their new stage, during which professional burnout syndrome (PAS) is highly likely to occur at some point. Objective: to determine the relationship between the educational climate and professional burnout in physicians in the medical residency programs of the National Hospital 2023-2024. Methodology: cross-sectional observational study of a sample of MR convenience of both sexes from all medical specialties of the National Hospital between November 2023 and January 2024, MR with external rotation and/or vacations were excluded. Sample calculation; 136 MR. An online form from Google was sent to the MR email requesting voluntary participation. The SAP was measured with the standard Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) method with subscales; emotional exhaustion (EA), depersonalization (DESP), personal fulfillment (PR), with PAS with high scores of AE, DESP and low RP. The EC was assessed with the measure of the hospital postgraduate educational environment (PHEEM) with subscales; perception of role autonomy (PAR), perception of teaching (PE), perception of social support (PSS), the higher the score, the better the EC. Demographic and academic variables, MBI and PHEEM scores were collected, and the SAP was considered dependent, as the main result was the predictive relationship of the PHEEM on the SAP. Data were compared with χ², t-test or Mann-Whitney U, ANOVA and linear regression (p-significant value =<0.05). Results: of 233 participants, the mean age was 28.75 (±2.20), 63.94 % (149) women, the general prevalence of PAS; 70.38 % (164/233), PAS in men 75 % (63/84) and women 67.78 % (101/149) p=0.0014, the first 2 years with the highest frequency of PAS; 65 (85.52 %), 59 (86.76 %) respectively p=0.0009, 63 (90 %) p=0.0071 surgical specialties. The subscales of the MBI, the AE; 79.82 % (186) with an average of 35.39 (± 11.61) points. The CE of MRs with SAP; 107.9 (19.6) dots and without PAS; 136.3 (12.1) dots 95 % CI 18.125.0 p= 0.0001. The PHEEM predicted the AE with R2=0.619, B= -0.18 (±0.009) p=0.001, and the DESP; R2= 0.385, B= -0.001(0.004) p=0.009, PSS being a significant predictor with inverse correlation in both. Conclusion: there is an inverse relationship between the educational climate and burnout syndrome in the population studied, with a high prevalence of burnout in male residents of surgical specialties, with the social support of the hospital educational environment being a significant predictor for the development of burnout syndrome.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Currently, rescuers and emergency personnel who assist the community in disaster situations do not have adequate treatment to protect their mental health. The most widely used techniques such as debriefing and defusing would be ineffective and even harmful in the long term. In the present study, two quasi-experiments were conducted with 42 Bolivian and 39 Peruvian rescuers to test the effects of group application of the Assisted Processing in Recent Stressful Situations (PASER, for its Spanish acronym) technique on the reduction of levels of anxious reactivity associated with the memory of rescue tasks. The Self-Perception of Emotional State Inventory (APEEM, for its Spanish acronym) was used to assess the intensity of recall. Results indicated that external support of working memory through the application of the PASER technique significantly reduced self-perceived levels of emotional disturbance associated with recall in both Peruvian t(38) = 6.642; p < .0001 and Bolivian rescue workers t(24) = 7.452; p < .0001. These initial observations suggest that the PASER technique, applied early and in groups to rescuers and emergency personnel, would be appropriate for the prevention of anxiety and stress disorders resulting from the stressful tasks of their work. Early reduction of this symptomatology would avoid the frequent comorbidity problems associated with untreated anxiety symptoms. Further longitudinal studies are needed to verify the long-term effectiveness of this intervention.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Introduction: Efficient change management and employee well-being have become determining factors for organizational success. This study focused on analyzing the mediating role of organizational climate in the relationship between willingness to change and eudaimonic well-being of employees. Method: There was a sample of 510 participants from three countries (Colombia: n = 158, 31%; Spain: n = 201, 39.4%; Ecuador: n = 151, 29.6%), with an average age of 36.47 years (SD = 12.61), who responded to the Organizational Climate Test (Focus-93), a Test of Readiness for Organizational Change (Cedco ) and an Index of Eudaimonic Well-being (EWB). Results: The multivariate and regression analyzes with structural equations indicated a limited predictive capacity of organizational change in well-being and the positive influence on the organizational climate, in addition to a moderate evaluation between well-being and organizational climate. However, the evaluation between organizational change and climate highlights the importance of effective change management to influence employee well-being. Conclusions: These findings emphasize the need to design strategies that foster employee well-being through change management and the promotion of a positive organizational climate in specific organizational settings.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Introduction/objective: Environmental education and climate change education are two fundamental initiatives for Latin America, however, few works have described in depth the research available in the region on them. Method: A Prisma-type scoping review of empirical papers (quantitative, qualitative and mixed analysis), in Spanish, English or Portuguese, was implemented in Scielo, Redalyc and Scopus. Results: a total of 66 articles made up the final database. In general, environmental education and climate change education have been approached interdisciplinarily, although with a predominance of the field of education. The domains include environmental knowledge, pro-environmental attitudes, planting practices and animal care. There are reports at all levels of education, with a majority in higher education. The effects of the interventions are positive; however, only one research reports a record of follow-ups and in few there is a record of behaviors. Conclusions: the implications for the design of environmental education and climate change education activities are that they should address local environmental problems, integrate different disciplines, include interaction activities with nature and last more than one school semester.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the work was to determine the relationship between the organizational climate and quality management in the Degrees and Diplomas Division (DTD), an administrative unit of the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA), a public and autonomous institution, responsible for professional, investigative and social academic training in the city of La Paz. For this, a quantitative methodology and a transactional correlational design were used; Three scales were developed that were validated and made reliable and then applied to officials and users of the DTD (selected through simple probabilistic samples and census); There was also an interview guide. The results show that the DTD has a participatory organizational climate in which leadership, teamwork and a positive vision of salaries and benefits received stand out; as weaknesses they highlight the physical work environment, job design and career development. Certification in quality management is the greatest strength to which customer orientation is added; the weakness in quality management is focused on planning. Finally, it will be concluded that, although both variables are connected, the behavior of one does not obey exclusively to the behavior of the other, so it is inferred that there are other variables that affect them, among them the commitment, the general institutional regulations and the same treatment that dispenses the user to the officer.

ABSTRACT

The Lancet Countdown Report has made significant contributions by exposing the main impacts on environmental health caused primarily by increasingly intense anthropogenic action. Deforestation, increasingly uncontrollable forest fires, drought, fossil fuels, and nonrenewable energy contribute to the onset of climate change. This change is characterized by heat waves, increasingly intense storms, and floods that, consequently, compromise human health. The South America report of The Lancet Countdown highlights the alarming changes occurring in the continent and urges action to stop these changes while there is still time.

ABSTRACT

Abstract (analytical) Climate change and the increasing occurrence of heatwaves have a negative impact on the subjective well-being of children and young people. This study examined the well-being of young Chileans during heatwaves. Using interviews and focus groups, ten participants with a range of educational backgrounds and different levels of contact with nature were selected. The results showed that negative perceptions of the climate and unpleasant emotions such as worry and feeling demotivated were prevalent among young people during heatwaves. However, it was identified that young people who have increased contact with nature experienced higher subjective well-being during these climate conditions. The authors conclude that heatwaves associated with climate change negatively affect young people's mental health. However, the role that young people play in climate mitigation and adaptation actions was also emphasized by participants in the study.

ABSTRACT

Abstract In the present study, carbon stocks were quantified in seven agroforestry landscape fragments: (1) heavily logged primary forest, (2) secondary forests of 5, (3) 10, and (4) 15 years originating from pastures, (5) cacao agroforestry, (6) productive Brachiaria decumbens grassland, and (7) degraded Brachiaria decumbens grassland. These fragments are characteristic of agricultural estates in the Ucayali department, Peru. The carbon stored (the total sum of aboveground and soil) in the primary forest was 267.26 t/ha; in 15-year secondary forest, 232.30 t/ha; in 10-year secondary forest, 162.1 t/ha; in 5-year secondary forest, 124.42 t/ha; in cacao agroforestry, 108.82 t/ha; in productive B. decumbens grassland, 72.57 t/ha; and in degraded B. decumbens grassland, 60.47 t/ha. Significant differences (p ≤ 0.0001) were observed between the carbon stock values of the seven fragments (R2 = 0.51, and CV = 53.66%). Orthogonal contrast tests showed that the carbon stored in the primary forest fragment significantly exceeded the average carbon of the other fragments, while the carbon stored in the secondary forests significantly exceeded that stored in the cacao agroforestry fragment. No differences were found in the carbon stored in both grasslands, nor between the 10- and 15-year secondary forests. The increase in the number of families and species directly related to the age of the secondary forest provides evidence of the recovery of botanical diversity.

ABSTRACT

Many neurological diseases are complex chronic conditions influenced on many levels by changes in the environment. Climate change refers to the widest range of local, regional, and global changes in average weather patterns, driven primarily, over the past 100 years, by anthropogenic activities. Various climatic variables are associated with an increased frequency of seizures in people with epilepsy. Risks are likely to be modified by many factors, ranging from individual genetic variation and temperature-dependent channel function, to housing quality and global supply chains. Different types of epilepsy appear to have different susceptibility to seasonal influences. Increased body temperature, whether in the context of fever or not, plays a critical role in the seizure threshold. The links between climate change and epilepsy are likely to be multifactorial, complex, and often indirect, making predictions difficult. We currently need more data on the possible risks of disease; among them epilepsy. We present 2 clinical cases that refer to changes in the frequency of their seizures in relation to the high temperatures recorded.

ABSTRACT

The paper reflectis on the regenerative function of the psyche invoked by the archetypal image of the tree. Especially facing the climate chaos and its effects on mental health, I point out the importance of paying attention to the climate debate in the psychological field. Starting from personal and clinical experience, I evoke a collective field of the psyche: trees, plants, and its symbolic processes of renovation, resistance and cure. In this path, I return to Jung's ideas about nature, Unus Mundus and the alchemy of the Philosophical Tree. I interweave it with contemporary thinkers, such as Byung-Chul Han and Emanuele Coccia, as well as with the indigenous thought of Ailton Krenak, and the worldview of the Yanomami, especially on the collective value of dreams. Just like trees, we are connected to life through an intricate collaborative web among species. Through dreams, the return to the collective unconsciousness as an originary driving force, power of vital energy, and path to restoration may point out and feed the creation of future paths.

ABSTRACT

Amid every crisis, women and children are considered the most vulnerable segments of the population. As such factions potentially get affected in every natural calamity. According to WHO, it has been evaluated that climate change will unravel all the achievements made in global public health over the past 50 years, sending 100 million people into poverty and killing 250,000 others annually. Although these figures are daunting, the ability to act robustly and effectively is indeed not out of capacity. Hence, it is pertinent to reforming and re-orienting health systems and bring robust strategies into action to mitigate the challenges posed by climate challenges in the present century. The world cannot afford the continuous agony of millions of masses and witnessing innocent people falling prey to several diseases and conditions that can lead them to face lifelong implications.

ABSTRACT

A popular belief states that if frog is submerged in a container and gradually heats it up, it will try to adapt until it dies; this is probably the situation faced by more and more human populations. As stated by thousands of scientists, academics, and researchers worldwide, the planet's warming is directly related to climate change.
