ABSTRACT

The aim of the present article is to report the case of a young patient with bowenoid papulosis who was a carrier of other sexually-transmitted infections (STIs), such as HIV and high-grade vulva lesion (usual-type vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia, VIN), and to demonstrate the strategy used to manage the case, as well as to discuss important issues regarding the standardization of intraepithelial lesions. ABSTRACT

Extramammary Paget’s disease and Bowen’s disease are histologically similar and immunohistochemistry is often required to make the diagnosis. We present a case of vulval Paget’s disease with Bowen’s disease in an elderly female. Strong positivity for cytokeratin 7, anti CAM 5.2, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and periodic acid‑Schiff (PAS) stain in clitoral, left labial and interface regions of the vulvectomy specimen confirmed the diagnosis of Paget’s disease (PD) while positive staining for p63 in the right labial and interface regions helped in establishing the diagnosis of concurrent Bowen’s disease (BD).

ABSTRACT

Bowen's disease commonly presents as a solitary asymptomatic plaque involving head and neck region or lower limbs. We present a case of a sixty seven-year-old man with an itchy, oozy, crusted solitary plaque on the right ring finger of eighteen months duration with histopathology consistent with Bowen's disease. The lesion was initially treated with topical 5% imiquimod but due to relapse and inadequate response to a second course, complete surgical excision followed by full thickness skin grafting was done. Recurrence after about 6 months in the form of a small papule adjacent to the initial site was also treated with excision. This report highlights the potential of Bowen's disease to mimic more common dermatoses and a high index of suspicion, supported by histopathology, is required to diagnose and treat it without delay, which in turn may require a multimodality approach. We also reviewed the current literature on the same.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

In this work, 2 groups of cases were subjected to this procedure to evaluate its reliability and to indicate when FNAB is advantageous over the conventional diagnostic procedures. The first group included 10 eyes, 7 of them had retinoblastoma and the others had Bowen's disease. FNAB was taken before the enucleation or the excision biopsy and compared with the histopathological diagnosis [histopathological control]. The second group included 11 eyes, 4 of them had lid masses, 3 proved to be inflammatory in nature and 1 malignant [metastasis]. One case of proptosis was suspicious to be malignant and proved to be a chronic inflammatory mass. The other 6 eyes had intraocular lesions. One with a chronic inflammatory limbal mass, 1 with toxocariasis, 2 with leukocoria [1 retinoblastoma and 1 chronic non-granulomatous inflammation]. In the last 2 eyes FNAB proved the infective nature of a case of chronic endophthalmitis and a spindle cell melanoma in the other. It is concluded that FNAB is an effective and reliable method in the investigation of ocular pathology

ABSTRACT
