ABSTRACT

This paper aimed to report two cases of type III and type II dentinogenesis imperfecta, in children, emphasizing the diagnosis and the rehabilitation treatment importance. Intraoral examination, in both cases, revealed destruction of the deciduous molars, dimension vertical loss and gray coloring of the teeth. Besides, in relation to the child with type III dentinogenesis imperfecta, a histopathologic exam was done to conclude the diagnosis. On the other hand, the all treatment of this child cannot be realized, because his constant faults. In relation to the other case, the rehabilitation treatment aimed to reconstruct the deciduous molars with steel crowns and aesthetic restorations on the deciduous canines and permanent lower incisives, reestablishing the aesthetic and function.

ABSTRACT

Dentinogenesis imperfecta (DGI) is one of the most common hereditary disorders of dentin formation. It follows an autosomal dominant pattern of transmission, affecting both the formation and mineralization of dentin. Either or both primary and permanent dentition is affected by it. This paper briefly reviews the manifestations of DGI Type II (DGI1) and presents a case report of a family affected with DGI1 over four generations.

ABSTRACT

Dentinal hypersensitivity is one of the most common complications which many patients complain in different ways. Dentinal hypersensitivity is caused by the opening of dentinal tubules to an oral cavity due to fractures, attritions, etc. It is a common complications after periodontal surgery. Many treatments have been suggested for this problem, till now. Calcium hydroxide is one of the materials used for treatment of root hypersensitivity after periodontal surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of calcium hydroxide combined with periodontal dressing on root hypersensitivity after periodontal surgery. This study was done on 30 patients with severe periodontitis who needed periodontal surgery for both quadrants in each jaw. In each patient one quadrant was treated as a test and the other side was used as a control. In the test group 90mg of Calcium Hydroxide powder mixed with 1cm of Co-pack covered the site surgical. Twenty-one patients completed the procedure After surgery, a periodontal dressing combined with calcium hydroxide covered the area on the test side. The other side was used as a control and covered with a pure dressing. After one week the dressing was removed and the amount of hypersensitivity was measured with air flow and an explorer using the visual analog scale. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon sign rank test. The results showed that there were not any significant differences between the two sides in root sensitivity, but Plaque index in the test sides was lower than the control side. The periodontal dressing can not be used as a carrier for calcium hydroxide to reduce root hypersensitivity after periodontal surgery. Decrease in plaque accumulation after using the combination of calcium hydroxide and periodontal dressing may accelerate surgical wound healing but further investigations are necessary

ABSTRACT

We report a rare case of an association of external enamel pearl with internal enamel pearl on the root of a molar. To the best of our knowledge, association of external and internal enamel pearls has not been previously reported. We discussed the histogenesis of enamel pearls and proposed that internal enamel pearl formation may be a continuation of formation of external enamel pearl.

ABSTRACT

Odontodysplasia is a relatively uncommon condition that can affect both primary and permanent dentition. It is characterized by defective formation of both enamel and dentin, with enlarged pulp chambers and root canals with open apices. It is usually a localised condition where one or few teeth may be involved. Sometimes, an entire quadrant or more than one quadrant may be involved but generalized involvement is extremely rare. An interesting case of a generalized odontodysplasia affecting both primary and permanent dentition in an eight year old girl is presented here.
