ABSTRACT

One case of transdiafragmatic intercostal hernia after intense coughing fit followed by rib fractures in patient with history of pneumonia is presented. He had a severe coughing fit, developed a right toracoabdominal hematoma and then a tumor that was gradually enlarging. Image exams confirmed the diagnosis. Treatment consisted of surgical repair with the use of a polypropylene prosthetic mesh. It is a rare type of hernia. Only four cases were found in literature. The sooner the disease is diagnosed and treated the better the prognoses will be since it will prevent hernia from strangulation and incarceration.

ABSTRACT

Twelve patients with pathological fracture of the proximal femur were treated with reconstruction nail and bone cement during the period from 2002 to 2004. They included seven females and five males; the average age at presentation was 47 years [range 36 to 60 years]. The pathology was known in eight patients and in four could not be detected. The use of reconstruction nail and bone cement allowed the patients to mobilize early and continue their therapy of their lesions, besides, the use of reconstruction nail minimized much the risk of fracture of neck of the femur, a frequent complication with the ordinary nailing

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

We report a case of insufficiency fracture of the sternum in a 70-year-old female patient with a review of the literature. She complained of sudden onset chest pain and aggravating dyspnea. She has been managed with corticosteroid due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for 15 years. Diagnosis of sternal insufficiency fracture presented with thoracic kyphosis was made on the basis of absence of trauma history, radiologic findings of lateral chest radiograph, bone scintigraphy and chest computed tomography. Thoracic kyphosis and osteoporosis secondary to menopause, corticosteroid therapy and limited mobility due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were considered as predisposing factors of the sternal insufficiency fracture in this patient.

ABSTRACT
