ABSTRACT

We revised our experience from 1968 - 1990 in 11 patients 7 perforated and 4 obstructed. The first group was treated by staged procedure and the second group by primary resection except in one patient by staged procedure. The duration of post operative fever and ileus were similar in both groups. The hospital stay and the period of disability were shortened by primary resection. But this increase much when complicated. Staged operation is recommended in complicated diverticular disease inspite of longer duration of hospital stay. Primary resection anastomosis in only recommended in obstracted cases when well diagnosed and well resussitated
