ABSTRACT

Abstract This paper reports the results of research aimed at identifying patterns of significant knowledge contained in the documentation of thirteen Mexican companies submitted for the purpose of the Organizational Environment evaluation of "Super Companies", a ranking issued exclusively by the consulting firm Top Companies®. Maps of company relationships and the attributes of the selected variables are developed on the basis of the quantitative processing of six variables and indicators, and an analysis of social networks. The sources and the methodology employed reveal patterns of informational behavior in the specialized documentation that can serve to support decision making with regard to the evaluation and preparation of the rankings issued by the specialized consultants.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To report the experience of the City Department of Health in Belo Horizonte (SMSA/BH), state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, with the use of information resources management (IRM) to develop a health information system. METHODS: In this case study we reviewed documents describing initiatives in the area of information, the mechanisms used to enable these initiatives, and the results achieved with a management system focused on the implementation of an electronic medical records system in the period from 2003 to 2008. This process is described and analyzed from the perspective of IRM. RESULTS: The system contributed to a change in the health care model, resulting from the electronic integration of 103 basic health units, 9 specialized units, and 503 family health teams, with emphasis on information that was relevant for the family health program. CONCLUSIONS: The following IRM components were effectively implemented as part of the electronic system: creation of a single locus for the areas of information technology and information, potential leveraging of information technology, and establishment of a strategic forum for information-related decision-making. One limitation refers to the use of strategic information for long-term decision-making.

ABSTRACT

In universities, both publications such as thesis and research projects are the main source of explicit knowledge that they provide. In this paper, it is presented data from the bibliometric analysis of 53 projects corresponding to health public branches program and 12 projects of territorial programs from research centre and environmental technologies approved in calls between years 2004 and 2010 with the aim of identifying trends, gaps and their main characteristics. It showed that it was very unstable building research projects in both Branches program and Territorial health. The largest projects number for both programs corresponded to the theme of research in health systems and services, were classified as research and development projects (R & D) and the main type of research design was found analytically. Publication was not always represented as an output in projects branch programs, but were not in the case of the most territorial programs projects. In both projectseducational category of researchers corresponds to the educational pyramid categories of Ciego de Ávila Medical University and the scientific level of the tutors is according to the status of this indicator in the province. Most of the projects belong to provincial institutions of Secondary Level Care of Health.
